Chapter 6
Nathaniel's friend kept staring at the timid lady who was hugging his suit tightly to stop the shivering, and he lowered the temperature of his car to make her comfortable. He looked at the lady that was in deep thought and unaware of her environment.
He sighed and shook his head, and his friend was a dumbass.
"I'm Nicholas by name, but family calls me Nick, and you can call me that because you are now my sister-in-law," he winked at her through the rear mirror, and she smiled shyly at him then turned away to look at the scene passing on the street as the car was moving.
He raised his brow, waiting for her to tell her name even when he had, "Won't you tell this gentleman who introduced himself your name?"
"Oh?" she said in a question before rubbing her hands together, "I'm Angelina."
"No shorten?" he asked while she nodded.
"Well, I'll give you one," he hummed, dancing with his head as he drummed his fingers on the steering.
"Lina," he chirped.
She smiled softly at his enthusiasm, "can you please drop me at my apartment?" she requested, "I've something to take, and I need to inform my friend. She's waiting for me at my apartment," she added, seeing him nodded his head before asking for her address and drove off.
A perfect silence settled between them, and he stared at the lady again, who was fiddling with her fingers as she was moving uncomfortably when he drove to her street.
She got down from the car, packing her gown with one hand, and used the other to close the door, bowing her head a little in gratitude before scurrying inside, but Nick didn't miss a beat by following her in long strides.
She walked on the stairs hurriedly through the stairs to the third floor, stopping at the brown door before bending down to the carpet rag to take the spare key. She opened the door to have her friend jump on her.
"You are back," she squealed, hugging her tightly, "How was the work? How much were you given? How—" She bombarded her with questions.
"Yuko! release the girl. Let her breathe, and your questions are too much!" Nick piped in, rolling his eyes.
"Davis!" Bella seethed, unattached her hands from her friend's neck before staring at the smirking pain in her ass.
"Surprise to see me, darling," Nick winked at her to see her clenching her fist.
"What the fuck are you doing here?" she asked, towering over Nick's frame, whereas she looked like a dwarf to him.
"Duh duh," he mocked, flickering her forehead, "Don't tell me you aren't happy to see this brother of yours," he wiggled his brow as she hit his hand away.
"Stepbrother," she stressed 'step'.
"Step or not, there's still brother," he laughed while humphed.
"I think you, showing up every time, I'll think you are stalking me," she tutted.
"Lina," he called, staring at the lady who was looking at him and her friend dumbfounded.
"Lina?" Belle exclaimed, watching her friend to his excuse of a brother hawkishly.
"Yeah," he confirmed, "My friend," he grinned impishly.
"What?" her eyes widened comically, "she's mine!" she growled, holding Angelina's wrist.
"Her husband is my best friend, and that practically makes her my friend."
"Hus what?" she stared at her friend for an explanation while Angelina hung her head low.
"Is what he's saying true?" she asked, waiting for a response, but she didn't.
"Hey!" Nick called his sister to stop squintinized the poor lass who was about to tear up, "What do you mean by her getting married without my permission?" she turned to her brother and glared at him.
"And who is the man?" she asked, "Do I know him?"
"Nathaniel."
"You mean Nathaniel freaking Hugh —my number one crush?" she cried out dramatically, "But wait—" she paused, "What of that b for bitch c for Clara?" she asked.
Angelina went inside to pack her clothes and other things, leaving the siblings outside. She wiped the lone tear away from her eyes, taking the picture frame of hers and her father on her birthday before leaving her country.
She was unplugging her laptop from the socket when the duo of siblings entered with Nick wearing a grim face. Nathaniel had called him early asking about his wife when he responded that they were in her apartment and that she was packing some necessary things, and he had hushed his sister before stylishly telling her to let him enter.
"Are you done with packing?" Nick asked, staring at her one fully packed bag and the other that was yet to be packed.
"Yeah," she dragged slowly, "I'll be through now," she added.
Angelina begrudgingly pushed herself from her seat and looked back at her crappy room one more time before sighing and hugging her friend. "I'll call you later," her friend said, not wanting to detach herself from Angelin.
"Okay, talk to you later," she said, carrying a back while Nick had the remaining.
Nick drove off without wasting any more time to Nathaniel's house yet making chit-chat with her.
Nathaniel drank two martini shots before looking around dazzlingly, standing and smoothing his shirt. He left his bill on the counter, signalling his hand to the bartender before going out with bodies hovering over one another greasily.
He entered his car and drove off, anticipating looking at his Angel's face and making him hit the gas.
He could wait to see her.
The iron gate automatically opened, and he drove in. His gigantic house was dark, and there were no traces of fluorescent light. The maids had gone to their house on the other side. He furrowed his brows, thinking about what his wife could be doing. Would she be sleeping or reading? He thought.
He opened the door and entered to inhale a warm heavenly scent, but the house was cold. He called the line to connect the maid in their room, "my wife?" he asked and went to the minibar to have a drink.
"She's not here, sir," she responded.
"Call Ester to make some light meals, and some maid should clean the east wing," he ordered.
"Okay, sir," she replied while he grunted and hung up before calling his friend.
The second ring, his friend picked it up, "Nathaniel bro, what's up?" his friend chirped at the other side.
He let the greeting slide, "where's my wife?" he asked.
"Oh?"
"Yeah?"
"She's at her apartment, taking something there?" Nick responded, glaring at her sister, who was trying to pipe in the convo.
"Bring her home," Nathaniel said and hung up, pinching the bridge of his nose. He took another glass when he heard the hunk of a car. He rushed to the window and saw his friend's car.
He ran upstairs to his room, changing his casual clothes while running his fingers through them before descending downstairs to meet his wife.

Chapter 5Angelina heard a loud noise from the kitchen, which made her run out and check what had happened. She saw the man she was married to cussing while checking his foot. She smiled at his attic, and he mistakenly hit his toe.Angelina shook her head and escaped to the kitchen to soothe his pain with the coffee she had made."Good morning, dear husband." She greeted him with a smile. She didn't know what to call him. She didn't know whether he would be okay with her calling his name. She handed him a cup of coffee she had prepared.Angelina had woken up early in the morning to do her duties as a wife, though she hadn't been told what to do as a substitute. Cooking was an excellent start to having a conversation. She wanted to familiarise herself with everyone. So this house would be more accessible for her to stay in in the meantime. She had asked the maid in the kitchen what he liked and disliked, and the maid informed her how he wanted his coffee early in the morning without an
Chapter 4"I wasn't the one who left him at the altar, but I was the one who was left at the altar."Angelina didn't think this was how her wedding day would be, being left alone by her stranger husband.Even though it was fake and rushed, it still hurt her to be left alone in the eyes of people. There was no sting between them, but he was still supposed to wait for her.Angelina stood at the altar anguished, staring at the ground as a murmur filled the room. She felt her eyes sting with unshed tears of humiliation. The whispers were getting to her as she felt her chest thumping in anxiety and biting her trembling lips to stop a sound from escaping. She was shocked! Was this how all fake marriages are?She was nudged by a man who wore a neat Armani suit which matched his jet-black slick hair. He was tall and built a little, but not like her fake husband. He smiled softly at her, ushering her to move away from the eyes of people. Her legs moved wobbly, following the man before he suppo
Chapter 3"Okay," she responded in a weak voice, thinking of the pros and cons of the situation. It was a win-win situation. I get a house to live in, and he gets a wife to marry. And it's only for a year. Free food and shelter, She thought."Good!" the woman clapped her hands excitedly. "Oh my.. " the woman's eyes widened dramatically, using her hand to cover her mouth while Angelina stared at her, "sorry for my lack of manners," the woman smiled shyly."Uhn?""I'm Jasmine Hugh," she introduced herself, holding her hand out for her to shake. She rubbed her hands together before accepting her opened hand, "I'm Angelina Walters," she responded. Jasmine smiled to the fullest and dragged her again to another room, pushed her in, and then locked the door at the back."This is the bride," she announced enthusiastically while Angelina looked at her. Did she mean it?"Oh," three guys came out behind the curtains, twirling her around, staring at her in fascination."How I wish I had these ass
Chapter 2Everything was falling apart! She was running, and she had been running all her life; everything was falling apart. She could not live on the street, and this State wasn't like her father's country, where you could get accessible apartments anytime or anywhere. She was given a scholarship at the State university for the last four years, and she was very excited, but if she'd known this was what she would be facing, she would have stayed with her father in her father's country. Well, this State was her mother's, which made her biracial. Her life had been jumbled-mess since she arrived in this country. She was easily judged by her dark skin colour. She didn't have a real job apart from freelancing for lazy youths. And that wasn't paying her much. They judged her skin colour and her father's nationality, not her brain. They were men who always had their lustful gaze on her curve,
Chapter 1People always say first love is a lesson, but last love is true love, and Nathaniel did not believe it because his first and last love was Clara Adrian. His only woman.Clara was the granddaughter of his nanny, Mrs Adrian. He and Clara practically grew up together from diapers, and they went to the same schools. And they'd promised to get married when they grow up till old together with their child(ren). She was mine, and I was hers only. He thought, smiling widely while twirling the diamond ring. All his reasons and actions revolved around her. Anything she wanted or said, he agreed to it without batting an eyelash because she was the only one who understood him better, and he loved her so much with every fibre of his being. She was like the oxygen he breathed in.His twenty-six birthday was a fortnight ago, and she told him she was ready to become his lawful wife, and he proposed to her, feeling over the moon. She was a firm believer in sex before marriage, and he vowed to
'No sooner met but they looked, no sooner looked but they loved, no sooner loved but they sighed, no sooner sighed but they asked one another the reason, no sooner knew the reason, but they sought the remedy; and in these degrees have they made a pair of stairs to marriage.’William Shakespeare.Prologue"Do you take Angelina Adenike Walters as your lawful wife?" the minister asked."I do," he replied curtly, looking at nothing in particular as his eyes void any emotions he was feeling. The minister turned to the bride and asked, "do you take Nathaniel Xander Hugh as your lawful husband?" her heart skipped a little, staring at her unresponsive husband to face before responding in a crooked voice, "I do.""With the power of God, I declare both of you as husband and wife. You may kiss your bride," the minister pronounced. Her stranger husband moved to her slowly, opened her white veil a little as he tilted his head to the right side, and she closed her eyes expectantly, waiting for his
