Three | The Marriage

I stood nervously in front of Jesus' statue, waiting for my bride to walk in.

The church was packed with people.

All waiting to watch me get martyred, I mean married.

Just then with another round of applause she walked in. I turned to my side. She was wearing a beautiful white gown and believe me for the first time in my life, I had to acknowledge her beauty.

Her dark brown locks hung on both sides, she held her white gown carefully, looking down every once in a while.

She glowed a different glow today. It was strange how she didn't need much make up to look pretty, she just did, effortlessly.

My heart skipped a beat as she walked down towards me.

Nevertheless, I turned away instantly making sure she didn't notice my gaze.

She came and stood right opposite to me as the Father began with the rituals. After taking the vows, and completely dodging the whole kiss the bride thing, both of us sat in my newly bought red coloured Ferrari and drove back towards my mansion.

As she walked into our room she looked at me hoping I would smile back but all I did was ignore her. I went straight down to the dressing table and opened my watch.

She had to know that I was definitely not happy with this alliance.

Expecting anything from me was pointless.

My ignorance towards her didn't cause any change in her behavior.

She lived in the 'Ignorance is bliss' era.

"Neil, look now we are married and you cannot change it. So,there is no reason behind behaving this way.", she said as she walked down to the dressing table behind me, opening her necklace.

I was unbuttoning my shirt when she spoke. I suddenly feel a surge of hatred towards her. Why did I have to marry someone I didn't like? Why?!

I shut my eyes, somehow controlling myself from saying anything too offensive and finally said,

"Get out of my life and I'd be happier."

"What is your problem with me?!", She asked as if annoyed. I immediately turned towards her, standing only inches apart.

She looked up at me with the most naive look in her eyes. As if she didn't know anything.

I clutched her wrist and pulled her with a yank, she lost balance, bumping onto me.

"Stop this pretentious drama!", I shouted at her, finally, "I lost my girlfriend, Rosaline, because of you! I am never forgiving you for that! Get that in tiny your head.", She didn't wince or show any signs of pain as she looked into my eyes determined.

I released her as she immediately edged away.

" I'm so sorry Mr. Neil Parker, if you think it's because of my that your so - called girlfriend left you! ", she said looking up at me, I could see the tears lining her eyes. She immediately turned and strode down to the bathroom. She opened the door, entered, and banged it shut.

I knew she was hurt and the reason she went into the bathroom was to cry but I didn't care! I couldn't even if I wanted to.

I had cried several times, the same way, because of her. She too should spare a tear or two, you know.

I had changed into my t-shirt and trousers when she walked out of the bathroom. Her face was red but she didn't look at me. I was correct, she had been crying.

We had our marriage reception that night. Akansha took a gown from her suitcase and went into the bathroom to change. I had clearly stated I was not leaving my own room for her sake.

She came out after a while, agitated with herself as she stood in front of the dressing table trying to put the zip of her purple grown which was on her back.

"Seems like you are incapable of wearing clothes Ms. Goenka. ", I said sarcastically, with a smug smile, surfing my phone casually.

Her face immediately turned scarlet. She turned and said in a rather spiteful tone,

"First and foremost, it's Mrs. Parker now and second on the last day of school you forgot to zip your pants! ", she said with a 'I'm smarter always' smirk.

I turned completely red in embarrassment.

"Now if you don't want me to remind you of your smartness Parker kindly get up and help me put my zip on.", She shouted.

How do I present the Best Wife of the Century award to her?

I walked up to her and put it on, with absolute distaste, hoping that someday I would put it on her face.

Just them the door opened and mom walked in,

"Hello my newly married couple! ", she said, smiling broadly.

She, unfortunately, had seen me help Akanksha with her dress.

"Very good Neil. You are helping her dress up. Dear, if you need any help ask him to do it and I'm sure he'll do. Won't you Neil?", The last question was a rhetorical one though, I nodded with a pained forced smile.

" It seems like your mom likes me, Mr. Parker. ", she said smiling as she wore earrings. I had immediately taken two steps back, as Mom shut the door on her way out,

"That's because she doesn't know what you've done to me."

She raised a brow,

"It's not my fault if your choice is pathetic.", She said coolly.

" Shut your mouth for God's sake! Also, my mother liking you will not have any effect on my perspective.", was my reply as I looked at her in the mirror.

Despite all the hate, I really couldn't deny to the fact that she was actually beautiful. I remembered her wearing those thick black rimmed spectacles all her life, but when she joined collage she started wearing lenses and believe me the whole college went mad behind her.

Except me, of course.

I had a much better choice of people.
