Aurora half expected to hear from Arden the next day. She kept herself busy with her work. She had not noticed the time until Eli came busting through the front door. He had just got off the bus that thankfully dropped him off right in front of their house. Aurora would not have allowed him to ride the bus otherwise.
"How was school, E?" Aurora asked as she closed her laptop that sat on her desk. She had renovated the small basement to use as a home office. Eli came over to her chair and held out a piece of paper to her.
"We are going on a field trip!" He exclaimed as Aurora took the paper from him. She glanced over its contents and saw that their class was going to the pumpkin patch. Aurora was reminded that Halloween was just right around the corner. Eli had already decided on a ninja for this year. Aurora had just got it in the mail the other day.
"Wow. A pumpkin patch, how fun." Aurora said to her son. She stood up from her chair and made her way upstairs with Eli in tow. Eli put his backpack on the small table and sat where Faith sat the previous night.
"Can I have a snack?" He asked his mother. Aurora smiled at him. In honor of the month of October, Aurora had been slicing apples and letting Eli eat a small amount of caramel with them.
"The usual?" She asked him already heading towards the fridge. Eli nodded enthusiastically with a large smile on his face.
As Aurora was cutting up the apple on the wooden cutting board she could feel her phone buzzing in her pocket. She finished fixing Eli his snack and then sat in the other chair next to him.
"So sorry I have not been able to text you sooner. Today was busy at the bar." It was a text from Arden. Aurora responded quickly.
"No problem. I understand."
"Are you available for dinner again tomorrow night?" Aurora quickly texted her mother to see if she could watch Eli. Faith said of course and Aurora let Arden know that she was free.
"Great see you tomorrow!" Aurora put her phone down and watched Eli as he did the happy dance in his seat as he ate his apples dipped in caramel.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"Where are you going momma?" Eli asked as he sat on her bed. He had a coloring book laid out in front f him and was currently working on a picture of one of his favorite super heroes. Aurora could not remember the name, but she knew without a debt that Eli knew the name.
"I am just going to have dinner with a friend." Aurora answered. She was not ready to mention that her friend was a man to her five-year-old son. There had only been one occasion that Eli ad asked Aurora why he did not have a daddy like the rest of the kids in his class.
Aurora had lightly tiptoed around the topic and just told him that not all families were built the same. That they were lucky to have each other. The answer had seemed to satisfy Eli, at least for the time being. Aurora knew it was only a matter of time before he would want the full story of why his father was not in his life.
"You look very pretty." Eli said as he continued to color. Aurora smiled and walked over to Eli. She sat next to him on the bed and pushed a piece of his hair from his eyes.
"Thank you, E." Eli smiled up at her and held his arms out. Aurora leaned in and gave her some a hug. Just then the doorbell rang.
"Grandma!" Eli explained as he bounded off the bed and flew to the front door. Before he would open it though Aurora came around the corner.
"Eli, how do we answer a door?" Aurora had been working with Eli on trying to be more conscious of his own safety. Opening the door without finding out who was on the other side was one of those things.
"Who is it?" Eli yelled through the closed door. He quickly plastered his ear to the wood and waited for a response.
"Your freezing grandmother, now let me in." He her Faith call from the other side of the door. Eli gave his mother a "see" look before unlocking it and letting Faith into the small house.
"You look lovely, dear." Faith commented after she hung up her coat behind the front door on the hooks that were attached to the wall.
"Thank you. I have made you a pot pie in the kitchen for dinner. Eli had requested that you show him how to play monopoly." Aurora laughed at Faith's expression. She knew that her mother detested monopoly because of the amount of time it took to win.
"No cheating." Aurora said to her mother in joking warning. She would not put it past her mother to make up her own rules to win the game and be done with it. Faith only chuckled in response and nodded as she walked into the kitchen.
Aurora had made a homemade pot pie for her mother and Eli to share for dinner. It was her grandmother's recipe and knew that it was also one of her mother's favorites.
"Thank you. Don’t stay out too late." Faith said as she began to pull down plates from the cabinets. Eli had already sat himself down at the table ready for dinner. Aurora walked over and gave him a hug and kiss on the cheek, before walking to her mother and giving her a hug a well.
"See you soon." Eli and Faith waved as Aurora headed back out into living and rather her jacket and purse. She got into her car and made her way back down to the bar that she seemed to be frequenting more often.
As she parked her car, she noticed that Arden was outside throwing away a bag of garbage. As she looked closer, she could have sworn that his eyes shone brightly in the darkness. How was that possible? Just as quickly as it was there, it was gone. She quickly shook her head. It must have been a passing car or something.
Aurora stepped out from her car and walked over to the door that she had just seen him go through and knocked lightly.
Arden quickly pulled the door open. Aurora stood in the doorway. She wore a brown colored dress paired with black stockings and ankle boots. Her hair was filed high on the top of her head this time. It showed off her neck and shoulders. Arden's mouth went dry as he found himself wanting to kiss her neck. He quickly cleared his throat and smiled at Aurora. He moved out of the doorway and let her through to the kitchen. He decided not to close the bar this evening as he was going to show Aurora his apartment that sat above it. "Busy tonight?" Aurora asked as she saw the people in the kitchen working around one another to fulfill orders from the front. Arden chuckled. "Just a little. If you want to follow me though?" He held his arm out to show a set of stairs that led up to the second story. Aurora had not realized that there was a second story to the bar. She figured they would have gone out to the full bar. Aurora followed Arden up the stairs and Arden pulled out a key that unlo

If this is a trigger for you please skip this chapter.**After they had finished their mean, Arden handed Aurora a glass of red wine. They made their way over to the spacious lounge that Arden had on the other side of the studio. Arden had to stop himself from grabbing Aurora and placing her close to him. He knew that it was not appreciated, at least at this time. Aurora was a sophisticated woman with a little boy. She was not some young girl from high school who would just be happy for his attention. "Will you tell me more about your family?" Aurora said before taking a sip of her wine. "What is it you would like to know?" Arden returned with his own question. "Why are you not closer to them? Distance wise I mean. At least from what you have said, they live further up into the mountains." "They do. Unfortunately, I do not have the best relationship with my stepmother." "I'm sorry. I didn’t realize your
Arden loved the playfulness of Aurora throwing the pillow at him. He caught it easily of course. His reflexes were wolf-like. Something stirred inside of him. The mate pull was beckoning him to move in closer. Arden set his wine glass down on the small coffee table to the side of the couch. Aurora must have sensed the change in atmosphere. "She feels something," Thor said. The barrier must be down for the moment. Arden slid across the couch. His knee almost touched hers. Aurora breathing increased as Arden moved closer to her. She did not understand what was going on, but the other thing she wanted at that moment was for Arden to kiss her. She wasn’t sure what to do. It had been such a long time since she had been intimate with anyone. Arden moved even closer, and Aurora felt herself move closer as well. Her body didn’t seem to be her own and all logical thought had left the building. Arden's hand gently came to rest at the nap of her neck. Aurora's breathing caught in her throat.
Aurora lay awake for some time in her bed. She had arrived home with enough time to get Eli to bed and bid her mother goodnight. Aurora had decided to take a quick shower before getting into bed. The shower was on the colder side. She could not stop herself from replaying the evening events in her mind. Her body had never felt that way before. Even when she had been close to others when she was younger. The sensation was completely new and foreign to her. Aurora was finally able to drift into a restless sleep that night. But rather than dream about a certain bar owner, she dreamt that she was in a dense forest. The trees were so packed together that barely any light was visible from the sun above. Aurora wandered around the forest for a short time until she heard a twig snap behind her. She whirled around in time to catch a glimpse of a furry animal darting out of view once more. The fur was as black as the as the forest around it that helped to shield it from her view. Aurora cont
"Hello Mr., Arden." Eli held his hand out to Arden. Arden chuckled as he was surprised by the action. He took the child's hand in his own and shook it. "Pleasure to meet you, Elijah." Arden said. "Since you’re a friend of momma's you can call me Eli." Eli said as he dropped his hand. He turned to Aurora and asked. "Can Arden come with us to get caramel apples?" Aurora nodded her head slightly and Eli grabbed Arden's hand once more and began to pull him towards the booths. "You are going to love them. The apples are good, and the caramel is warm." Arden smiled at Aurora as Eli pulled him through the crowd. Aurora walked with Faith a few feet behind the boys. Making sure to keep an eye on them not to lose Eli in the crowd. Not that she thought Arden would let her son get lost. Eli did not stop until he arrived at the booth with the caramel apples. He walked right up to the table and ordered two apples. Eli looked up at Arden who chuckled and pulled out his wallet. Aurora quickly s
"Hello, my love." Alpha Mason Vulfs said from the doorway. His wife, Luna Lila Vulfs, sat at her large wooden desk. When they had married Mason would have given her the world. Lila had asked for the Alpha office and Mason of course would deny her nothing. "Good morning. Have you heard from Arden?" Lila asked Mason. She had not looked up from the paper that she had been reading. "I have not, my dear." Mason said as he walked into the room. Mason and Lila had met a few short years ago and Lila had immediately captured his heart. He had not thought it possible after the death of his first Luna, Arden's mother Charlotte. However, one day when Mason had been looking over some business buildings in a nearby human town, he found Lila who was a struggling waitress. They immediately hit it off. Lila had not asked anything of Mason, but Mason had decided that he wanted her by his side and to help rule his pack until he passed the title to his son, Arden.Unfortunately, Lila's wolf was dorman
Aurora wasn’t sure why she was nervous for Arden to see where she lived. Were they moving along too fast? They had only been on two dates so far and now he was coming over to carve pumpkins for Halloween. Aurora hoped that Arden did not feel obligated to come over since Eli had asked. She told herself that she would make sure to ask Arden when they were alone. Aurora pulled up to her house and Eli jumped out excitedly. He stood in the yard and waited for Arden to pull up to the front sidewalk before rushing over to him. Arden chuckled as he got out and rounded his car. "Come on Eli. Let's help your mom first. Once we get your pumpkins inside, I will come back out for mine." Eli nodded and walked next to Arden as they crossed the yard and made their way over to Aurora. "Thank you." Aurora said quietly as Arden picked up both pumpkins with ease. Faith chuckled as she followed everyone to the door. Aurora quickly jumped in front and unlocked the door. "E, can you turn on the lights ple
Aurora and Arden sat in the kitchen and talked while they ate and carved their own pumpkins. Aurora had decided to try and free hand a spider while Arden attempted a silhoett of a wolf. "That is lofty," Aurora said. She was not particularly artistic, but she could envision it. However, she would not attempt a wolf. Arden turned a cocky smile in her direction. "A little faith," he said. Aurora chuckled and shook her head. Some time later, they finished their pumpkins and headed toward the living room. Eli's face lit up when he saw them walk through the doorway. "Finally!" He exclaimed as he jumped off the couch and ran towards his mother and Arden. Aurora chuckled and continued to the door. She opened it and held it open for Arden and Eli to follow. Once outside, they sat the pumpkins down. Aurora had to run back inside in order to grab a few candles. Faith stood up from the couch, and Aurora smiled at her. "I am glad to see you and Eli happy," she said. Aurora thanked her mother f
