Chapter 5

Author: Rainstorm
As I leaned against Wilson's chest, a cold smile curled at the corner of my lips.

Of course he thought Yvette was different.

After all, she used to be a man. She knew better how to please one.

Wilson's obsession with Yvette grew deeper by the day. Soon, he was doing anything she asked.

When she said she liked houses by the sea, he immediately bought her a luxury beachfront property in a coastal city.

When she mentioned wanting a designer bag, he swiped his card without blinking.

He even secretly transferred 10% of his shares in Gunner Corp into her name.

When Brendon told me about it, I was sitting in my office reviewing a surgical plan.

My pen froze in midair. Ink spread across the page, a dark blot blooming like the pain and hatred I couldn't hide.

Even at the height of our love, he had never given me 10% of the company, and yet he handed it over so easily to a mistress.

How pathetic.

I took a deep breath to force down the storm inside me and called Yvette.

When she answered, I got straight to the point. "It's time."

There was a pause on the other end. Then, her voice came through. "Okay, I got it."

After hanging up, I stared out at the busy city beyond the window with a cold gaze.

It was time for Wilson to pay for everything he owed our child and me.

That night, Wilson actually came home. He looked worse than before. His face was pale, and he had dark circles under his eyes. His coughing had gotten worse too.

"You're home late," I said, placing a bowl of freshly made soup in front of him. "Drink this to warm up."

He took a few sips and sighed tiredly. "Work's been crazy, and I need to look after Yvette. I'm exhausted."

He set the bowl down and looked at me. "Shannon, once the novelty wears off, I'll go back to becoming a good husband. We can have another child. What do you think?"

Novelty?

So even now, Yvette was just a fleeting amusement to him.

I looked at him and felt a deep sense of irony. Wasn't it a little too late to play the part of a good husband?

"Sure," I replied gently, though my gaze remained calm and empty.

Wilson seemed relieved. He leaned back on the couch and closed his eyes to rest.

The next morning, something happened to him.

When I arrived at the hospital, the emergency room light was still on.

Brendon paced anxiously outside. When he saw me, he rushed over. "Dr. Vance, thank god you're here. Mr. Gunner suddenly collapsed. The doctors say his condition is critical."

I nodded calmly. "I see. Let's wait for the doctor."

Just then, my phone vibrated with a news alert.

The headline read, "Scandal Breaking! Gunner Corp Chairman, Wilson Gunner, Steals Woman's Boyfriend for Thrills!"

The comment section had already exploded, with netizens slamming Wilson for taking things to a sick new level.

Had he actually coerced a man with a girlfriend into a gender-affirming surgery just for thrills?

Gunner Corp's stock price had already started plummeting.

Not long after, the emergency room light turned off.

A doctor stepped out and said, "The patient is temporarily out of danger, but his condition is still serious. He'll need further observation and treatment."

Wilson was wheeled out moments later. His face was ghostly pale, and his eyes were barely open.

Brendon rushed to tell him the news.

Wilson struggled to speak. "Shannon, what's with that news? What do they mean I stole someone's boyfriend?"

I put my phone away and walked to his bedside. Leaning down, I looked into his confused eyes and said slowly, "Yvette is transgender. She used to be a man."

Wilson's body tensed almost imperceptibly.I read the comment slowly, "SeenItAll commented, 'Mrs. Gunner truly went above and beyond back then. Even with her husband in that state, she never left him. She even personally performed surgery to save him and stabilized the company. She's like a saintess'."I paused, then chuckled softly. "A saintess, huh? What an interesting title."Wilson's breathing grew heavier. His fingers instinctively clutched at the bedsheet beneath him.I scrolled down and read another comment aloud, "FadingPast wrote, 'Alas, Mr. Gunner was a man of power back then. Who would've thought he'd end up like this? What a cruel twist of fate. I hear he now relies entirely on his wife. Tsk tsk… That's why people say men need to take responsibility for their families'."Wilson's hand shot out, knocking over the glass on the bedside table. His chest heaved violently. With every word I spoke, Wilson's face grew paler. The anger in his eyes was swallowed by shock and disbelief. He had never imagined that the past he so casually dismissed had left such deep scars in me."I…" He tried to argue, but every word felt powerless against the truth. The violent surge of emotion, combined with the trauma to his body, finally broke him. His eyes rolled back, and he passed out again. The monitor shrieked an urgent alarm. As the medical team rushed in to stabilize him, I stood coldly aside, expressionless, like a detached observer.…A few days later, at Gunner Corp's press conference, I stood under the glaring lights in a sharply tailored black suit. My face showed fatigue, but my gaze was unwavering.Facing the cameras and murmuring media, I bowed deeply."Thank you, everyone, for your concern regarding myself and my husband, Mr. Wilson Gunner."My voice carried a faint rasp of exhaustion. "It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that my husban

Wilson stared at me, his eyes wide with shock and the slow, bitter sting of realization. But the anesthesia had fully taken hold. The questions he hadn't voiced and the fear building inside him were all swallowed by darkness.I stopped looking at him. My focus shifted entirely to the surgical site. The scalpel sliced through the blackened, rotting skin, isolating the dead tissue. My movements were calm, swift, and methodical. Each step was executed with textbook precision. The assisting doctors and nurses might have marveled at my skill and composure under pressure.Only I knew the years of sharpened hatred hidden beneath that calm exterior.Since he couldn't control his lower body, I would make sure he had no chance to misuse it.…When Wilson woke again in the ICU, a full day had passed. The anesthesia had worn off, and the searing pain through his body nearly sent him back into unconsciousness. But sharper than the pain was the hollow emptiness he felt below the waist.H

Watching Wilson thank me with tears in his eyes, completely unaware of the truth, only deepened the frost inside me.He would never realize that the papers he had signed himself were the tools that would bury everything he had.A week later, Wilson suddenly developed a high fever. Severe pain and swelling spread through his lower abdomen. After an emergency examination, the doctor told me with a grave expression that Wilson had developed a rare case of Fournier's gangrene. Immediate surgical debridement was required, or his life would be in danger. The moment Wilson heard the word "gangrene", especially considering where the infection was, he completely broke down. The thing he feared most had finally happened.Fear and humiliation swallowed him whole. Wilson closed his eyes briefly, then looked at me in a daze. "In the end, you're the one who loves me most.""We're husband and wife," I said softly. There was a trace of irony in my tone, but Wilson, completely shaken, didn't notice it."No matter what happened before, how could I just stand by when you're in trouble?"Wilson grabbed my hand tightly, so hard it almost crushed my bones. His eyes were red, his voice hoarse. "Shannon, I'm sorry. I've been such a jerk all these years."I gently patted the back of his hand to calm him. "Don't think about that now. Focus on getting better. The doctor said your collapse was sudden. It was caused by a sharp drop in your immune system."You'll need to be very careful from now on. No more stress. You need to focus entirely on resting and recovery."I paused before adding meaningfully, "Especially with… certain possible infection risks. You need to stay alert."Wilson's face turned pale again. He nodded instinctively, completely trustin

My words were like a stone plunged into a stagnant pool. But instead of a ripple, they ignited a violent storm in Wilson's eyes.As he lay on the hospital bed, already pale from weakness, he seemed to lose the last trace of color in his skin. His mouth hung open, a rasping sound escaping his throat. His eyes locked onto me, filled with disbelief and horror. For a few seconds, there was nothing but silence. Then, the eruption came."N-No way. You're lying! Shannon, you're fucking lying to me!"Wilson tried to push himself up, but his weakened body failed him. He collapsed back onto the bed.He ignored his condition. Veins bulged on his forehead as he roared with a twisted expression, "She's so pure and innocent. How could she possibly be… a freak?"His reaction was exactly what I expected. Or maybe even more extreme than I imagined.I stood there calmly. Wilson's crude words didn't anger me. If anything, I looked quietly concerned. When he finally ran out of breath and broke in
