We both froze.

“What’s going on?” Adam mouthed. “Is that Jaice?”

“His bag’s here,” AJ’s voice came, followed by a thunk which meant he’d kicked my bag. Then, a chuckle. “And a very saucy shirt.”

The others snickered.

“He has got to be in one of these stalls,” Jaice drawled, “cowering like an Omega in heat.”

Blood rushed out of my body, and I could not believe how my luck kept getting worse.

“They’re hunting me,” I replied, my voice barely above a whisper.

Shit, this was bad. If they found us in a stall together with Adam clearly in rut, and both of us shirtless, they were going to figure out something was up. Even if my scent blocker kept them from finding out I was an Omega, they’d still think that I was a scumbag Beta who was trying to seduce Adam to get back at him for agreeing to go out with Annalise!

Damn, Annalise, how could she have done this to me? And damn Adam, whose rut just had to send me into my own heat. Curse my stupid Omega body for betraying me like this! God, my dad wasn’t just going to kill me, he would eviscerate me if any of this gets out!

I needed to think fast.

“Come out, come out, wherever you are, little Beta,” another football player, Jordan, cried out. “If you don’t come out on your own, we’re going to drag you out.”

“Lotta stalls in here, but we have plenty of time to check each and every one,” AJ crooned. “Don’t be scared, we’re not going to hurt you, much.”

“We just want to make sure that you learned your lesson well enough,” Jaice joined in. “Go on, you got until I count to ten, or we start hunting!”

I wasn’t the brightest bulb in the box, but when I was under pressure, my brain worked well enough. I was ready to go out and ask Adam to stay silent until they left, but then, another idea hit me.

“Be silent,” I hissed at Adam, and got down to my knees.

Adam jumped back as my shoulders brushed his knees.

What the hell are you doing?!” He whisper-shouted back.

Outside, I heard Jace call out, “One!”

“Saving both our asses,” I replied. “Be quiet! Get out of there when it feels right!”

“Two!”

“How do I know when it’s the right time?!” Adam demanded.

“Three!”

“You’ll know it!” I replied and started to crawl.

The bathroom floor stank to holy hell. The moment my hands touched the sticky floor, I wanted to gag. The janitors tried to keep everything pristine, but that was impossible with a bunch of teenage boys constantly using them. There was at least a foot length space between the stall walls and the floor.

It was difficult for someone like Adam to crawl beneath them, but for a twig like me?

I’ve wiggled through less.

“Four! But you know what, this is getting boring!”

And then, I heard the first door slam open.

Fear overtook me, but instead of making me freeze, it urged me to go on faster.

I started crawling with all I had, stealthily enough that I did not make a single sound.

“Not here!” Another slam.

There were twelve toilet stalls in the bathroom, all lined up along one wall. Adam and I had occupied the one at the very end. I was already crawling into the one next to the last.

Another slam rang out.

“Come out, you pussy! God, you’re getting on my nerves now!”

They were starting to get angry now.

Another slam.

I crawled into the next stall and sprang up.

“I’m getting tired of this,” AJ growled. “What the hell are you all waiting for? Go open everything!”

A rush of footsteps came.

“Get out of there, you good for nothing-”

“Oh, my God, can you give me a second?!” I yelled out. “Can’t a man throw up in peace?”

The footsteps stopped.

I flushed the toilet for added effect.

Then, adopting the best pissed-off expression I could manage, I crossed my arms to hide the scent blocker under my armpits, just in case, and stormed out of the toilet in all my shirtless glory.

Every footballer turned to look at me, stopping what they were doing. They noticed the perspiration on my torso, and the way I looked flushed.

AJ and Jaice exchanged a glance of ridicule.

“What the hell were you doing in there that you couldn’t answer?”

“I was puking,” I snapped at them.

“What?”  screamed the baffled footballers in sync.

“I’m extremely squeamish, okay,” I replied, trying to sound defensive. It wasn’t too hard. “Things disgust me easily, and when it happens, I puke. You dumped goddamn pasta sauce on me, and it was gross. I don’t think I’ll eat pasta ever again.”

Jaice’s face contorted into a strange expression. It was as if he was warring between the desire to laugh at me and hold on to his anger.

“God, you’re even more pathetic than I thought.”

None of them thought to question me as to why they didn’t hear me puking. Like, the sound coming from the pipes couldn’t hide that much noise.

“Yes, I am. So, can you please let me go?” I tried to appeal to what logic and common sense that were yet to be slammed out of their skulls, running around a ball for glory. “Guys, I just don’t want any trouble, okay? I’m not going after Annalise. I don’t want nothing to do with her or her boyfriend; I just want to be left alone. So, can we please just put this behind us and get on with our lives? I’m sure you have better things to do than waste your time on me.”

For a second, I dared to think I appealed to their intellect.

But then AJ let out a snort.

“Oh, you’re not getting off that easily!”

I braced myself to run as they started towards me, but then, another door slammed.

“Guys!” A very sweaty Adam burst out. He looked like a mess, eyes wide, panting, barely holding onto the toilet stall walls.

“Adam!” Jaice called out, concern overtaking his anger. The burly boy rushed towards his friend and propped him up. “God, man, you’re burning up!”

“Thank God,” Adam huffed, eyes closing despite himself. He went weak, so Jaice had to support all his weight.

“What the hell did you do to him?” Jordan demanded from me, but I immediately put my hands up, but not high enough to show the scent blocker.

“I have no idea, I thought I was alone!”

“He’s going into rut and stinking the place up! How did you miss it?!”

“I’m a Beta, I don’t smell any of y’all.”

“Forget about him!” Adam growled. “I’m going into rut, get me to the nurse, NOW!”

Despite the weakness he was showing, his voice rang loud and clear across the room, a commanding tone befitting the Alpha who managed to be the captain of the football team at the ripe age of fifteen, the youngest in Sawhill’s history to do so.

The footballers lost their minds. They all forgot about me and hurried to Adam. Jordan and Jaice draped Adam’s arms over their shoulders and propped him up so he could stand. AJ gathered his things, which had been lying near his bathroom stall.

I flattened myself against the wall to give them as much space as possible.

They completely ignored me as they hustled Adam past me.

As they did, during a window of barely one second, Adam’s face turned towards me.

Not enough for his friends to notice, but for me to see.

A light smile graced his lips. It felt personal, something just for me to see.

And then, he winked.

I followed my father into a fairly empty lobby, my heart thumping in my chest, not ready for this confrontation at all.I knew it was coming, sooner or later. I knew I couldn’t keep running forever, but when it did, I expected to be more prepared. This was far too sudden. All I wanted was to help Colton, do him a favor. I hadn’t expected him to be a candidate for an experiment done by my family’s newest company.I should’ve known as soon as I learned it that trouble would follow. As soon as we were out of hearing range, I told my father, “I really didn’t put him up to that. I have no idea why he said all that, but he’s just…he just feels guilty about me not being home for Christmas and wants to help.”My father stopped and glanced at me over his shoulder.“I know.”“Oh,” I said, deflating. “Um…”“I’m your father, Adam, and regardless of our recent fight, I’ve raised you for twenty-five years. I know what kind of a man you are. Now, come along.”Flabbergasted at that declaration, I sile

Oh, shit! There weren’t many instances in my life (that I remembered) where I had been speechless. But seeing Ernest Kennedy come face-to-face with his recently estranged son rendered me silent in an instant. For one thing, Adam looked just like his father.Of course, he was taller and generally larger because apparently, Adam had gotten his grandfather’s genes, but they had the same hair, the same bright blue eyes, and the same bone structure that made so many on campus want to swoon.Including myself, if I were being honest. Anyone with eyes could see that the guy was drop-dead gorgeous.Adam’s mom’s genes hadn’t even tried to compete. Looking at Ernest, I could genuinely see an older, more distinguished version of Adam who had a good fashion sense, who held himself with an inherent ease that came with being richer than God, and a confidence that came with knowing just how powerful he was.All Alphas tried to emulate that confidence, but few wielded it effectively as Adam’s father di

“Colton.”“Yes?”I looked at the signage of the brand-new building located in Uptown Caveat City, gleaming under the winter sun.“Why didn’t you tell me that you were participating in a drug trial conducted by Kennedy Consolidated?”Slowly, Colton turned to look at me.He looked positively adorable in his bright green colored puffy jacket, thick black scarf, and black beanie with a little puff ball on top. Apparently, Colton was not built for the snow, which was a surprise, given how he originated from Minnesota, of all places. But then again, he said he was born in California and spent his first three years there before getting adopted, so maybe that had something to do with his abysmal cold tolerance.A lot of things happened in the past few months, but at the same time, nothing really happened at all.The semester came to a smooth end. The exams were a pain, and I’d forgotten how stressful they were. Colton, Vallory, Elara, and I formed a little study group to spend all night in the

“It was so dope!” Elara was telling Vallory, who stared at her, baffled. “Then Colton just whipped out these videos; one from the Club and the other from the motel, because of course those fuckers had videos in their motel rooms.”“Jesus Christ,” Vallory breathed.“It showed everything that happened. And the video from the club clearly showed that Kellin dropped something into Colton’s drink.”“And made me feel like a right idiot for not noticing that,” Colton grunted, glaring disdainfully at the soda he was nursing. “Turned me off from alcohol too for at last another month.”“And then Colton’s Colonel took the Dean aside and told him some really ominous stuff about the top brass getting involved if he didn’t ensure Colton’s safety in his campus, because apperently Colton’s that important.”“He has to be is he made Lieutenant by twenty-five,” Vallory muttered. “How did you even do it?”“I rescued a president.”“What?!” Both Elena and Vallory exclaimed, and I raised a brow at him.He s

Dean Vincent St. James sat behind his humongous desk, glaring up at every single person standing in front of him. We had just stepped into his office moments ago, and he had been doing it since, giving us the silent treatment.Because I was the one who he’d seen getting attacked, I had the privilege of sitting on a chair while the campus nurse fussed over my head.“University of Briarwood prides ourself in being an institution with a fully functional no bullying policy,” he declared, voice tight. “And every single student is required to follow these rules. Violation of these rules will result in direct expulsion. Same goes for any physical altercations happening on campus. The party that started the fight will be expulsed, while the party that was antagonized will undergo suspension.”He laid his hands on the table and looked at both Kellin and me.“Now, drugging a student on the other hand…if this claim is true, I have no choice but to get the authorities involved unless the involved

Seeing Kellin’s face, a torrent of emotions rushed through me. Anger, betrayal, sadness, indignation…But the emotion that stood out the most was disgust. Not even hatred. Disgust. Before, I thought he was a decent Alpha, but now, after knowing what he had done to me, after finally recovering all the memories from the night before, and feeling the remnants of his lecherous touch on my skin, having my mind polluted by knowing what he truly desired of me…And knowing that despite all my training, all my experience, and all the cruelty I thought I was capable of that made me near untouchable…The one thing that got me was trust.Because despite me thinking otherwise, I had trusted him enough to not anticipate him drugging me.Elara had told me everything. It really was him who had assaulted Adam, and everything he told me about his past was a lie. He didn’t have any brothers; he didn’t have parents who neglected him; the reason he hadn’t gone home for Thanksgiving wasn’t that his family

“How could he have done this?” I heard a voice vaguely like my mother’s pierce through the fog that had seemed to take over my brain. “After everything we'd done for him, how could he be this ungrateful?!”“It’s our fault, anyway, for trusting him,” said my father. “I should’ve figured that an Omeg
