The afternoon sun today was not hot enough, but the chaos that greeted the Hayes mansion was even hotter than that.

A large black vehicle had suddenly sped through the gate at full speed as it came to a hard stop in the circular driveway, raising a cloud of dust.

The driver's door opened with force, revealing a lean man in uniform who stepped down and moved swiftly toward the backseat to open for his boss.

And the next figure that alighted was that of Grandmother Hayes herself.

Her face was red-hot with anger, her brows drawn with purpose.

Then from the other side of the car, two housemaids in uniforms quickly emerged.

The older woman did not pause.

With the gait of a seasoned general, she advanced toward the entrance of the mansion.

The driver jogged ahead of her to open the double doors, while the maids stayed by her sides, struggling to match her pace.

It had been three good weeks since Vanessa’s threats.

Three weeks of expecting her to make that move that sh

  • His Enemy, My Husband    Chapter 91: The Dethroning

It was 5:43p.m. when Isla’s car returned back to the big wide gates of the Backwood mansion. It was far earlier than her usual return time. Damien wouldn’t be home yet, not at this hour, and as for Isabella…. Isla could see that her car was already parked in a casual slant near the front porch. “The witch was back already.” Back from her little snake mission. Isla sat back in the car for a moment, the corners of her mouth tightening ever so slightly. She finally stepped out with purpose, walking as if she were giving a subtle warning to the house itself. Now, she was home, and the shadow of war was hanging over her. Moments after getting inside, just around the hallway junction, two of the domestic help spotted her and immediately dipped into respectful bows. “Welcome back, ma’am.” They greeted almost in unison. Isla gave a soft nod to answer before blurting with the wave of one hand, “Thank you both. You can let the others know you’re dismissed for the night. Tell them I

JFK Airport was the picture of busy as usual this afternoon, particularly around the arrivals terminal.Multiple suitcases were humming and rolling across the floor as families reunited with noisy hugs. And in the midst of this was the waiting figure of Caden. He had just stepped out from the terminal drop-off, with one of his hands in his pocket, while the other one was shielding his eyes from a passing flare of sunlight. His gaze sweeping and scanning through the crowd patientlyNone of them so far was the image of whom he had come to find…the mysterious figure, that one-in-a-million face,“Tiana Lewis”The name was playing again in his head like a low note. The lady from the club. That same one who had just vanished like smoke and reappeared days later in Isla’s boutique smiling like it was some sort of late-night show. And now, he hadn't planned this meeting. • His Enemy, My Husband    Chapter 88: The Tracker

Isla was in her boutique on this sunny afternoon, sitting with one of her hands lying flat on the table while the other one held on to her phone tightly, her right thumb tapping against the screen at five-second intervals. Her attention kept switching between the extra-large wall clock and the glow of her phone’s screen. The time was 12:43pm. Tiara’s flight would be landing in just about thirty minutes or so. Isla was actually meant to be on her way to JFK airport by now, waiting at Arrivals to receive Tiara, who has been out of the city for a few days now. But instead her focus had been snatched by something else. Her eyes dropped to the screen for the upteenth time. “The tracker was still moving.” That was the problem… the source of her distraction. “It was the tracker.” The same one she had secretly fitted onto Isabella's belongings, just enough to ping movement when needed. Nearly fifteen minutes ago, she noticed it had started to move. After being dormant

“You always make that face when you lose.” Isla teased her husband in that honey-laced tone she always used at this time of the night with him. Damien gave a dry snort before retorting with, “Oh yeah…just because I let you win.” And right after that, they both burst out laughing. The couple were in their bedroom. Their bodies lay entwined under the covers, their bare skin brushing, hearts relaxed, and conversation drifting as they talked and joked about everything without stopping. Then, suddenly, a vibration from Damien’s phone on the bedside table interrupted the intimate moment. Their voices faded, while Damien’s expression soon twisted into an irritated frown, a sharp hiss escaping through his teeth. Isla blinked slowly, her lashes feeling a little heavy with sleep now. The phone went quiet and then started to ring again. Damien let out a low grunt, dragging a palm over his face. “Ugh,” he muttered. Isla gave a sleepy chuckle and yawned before adding, “What if it’s i

  • His Enemy, My Husband    Chapter 86: More Than a Contract

It was a comfortable evening and the two friends, Damien and Collins were making the most of it in one of the secluded booths of the Veridian Lounge. An upscale clubhouse built into the floor of a luxury high-rise in Midtown. The lighting was low and warm, as waiters moved around like shadows, their attitude smooth and discreet.Collins reached across the table to twist open a premium bottle of whiskey. He poured for Damien first, then for himself, before leaning back with a satisfied smirk. After then, he passed Damien his glass, and just as his friend took it, Collins gave him a more proper look, raising his brows in playful suspicion as he remarked jocularly,“Man, you’re glowing,” He was also gesturing lazily with his free hand.Damien let out a small, dry laugh, brushing the compliment away like a leaf off his shoulder with one hand. But Collins refused to give up.“I’ll say your wife is feeding you well. Honestly. Look at those panda cheeks you've got there.”This time
