She wasn't getting dressed to impress Damian. She was getting ready because she needed to feel confident enough to express what she had been bottling up for days; her pregnancy.
She put a hand on her stomach because of that thought.
She took a big breath.
She was going to tell him tonight.
She couldn't keep the truth hidden forever.
Her phone vibrated.
It was a message from Damian.
I'm heading there, the message said.
Emily gazed at it for a while..
She hadn't anticipated seeing him so quickly.
She started writing an answer.
I'll be prepared.
She paused after that and she cancelled it.
Instead, she merely put the phone down.
She preferred to inform him in person.
No texts.
No breaks.
Nobody else is around.
just the two of them.
Olivia was seated peacefully in her car outside of her apartment.
Her mind kept replaying Damian's previous call.
It's important that I see you.
She would have interpreted those words as a sign of optimism two years ago.
But she wouldn't do it tonight.
She ought to have known better.
Despite this, she was unable to disregard her emotions.
For many years, Damian was a part of her life. Before the money started coming. Before the company and the fame. Before everything turned complex.
She remembered the man who had previously held her hand as they strolled through the city without any security following them. She also remembered the proposal.
She remembered thinking that she would spend the rest of her life with him. She then recalled the day he cancelled their engagement. She had left that day without begging.
She had never really stopped loving him, though. And that was her weakness. And maybe her greatest risk.
Because Olivia did not become careless after being hurt by Damian, she grew tolerant. She had spent two years attempting to figure out how to live without Damian. She created her own existence. However, a part of her remained connected to the past.
Tonight, she had to discover if Damian had truly closed that door. She started the car and drove to the restaurant that Damian had texted her for the meeting.
Damian was the first to arrive at the restaurant.
He chose a quiet table at the end of the hall because he didn't want anyone to interrupt the conversation.
Olivia came in a few minutes later.
They looked at one another.
Neither of them spoke for a moment.
Olivia then went to the table.
Damian said, "Thanks for coming."
Olivia answered, "It was you who called me." "I assumed it had to be important."
"Yes It is," Damian said.
Olivia sat down.
"What is the matter?" she inquired.
She was carefully examined by Damian.
"I've been contemplating the past."
Olivia gave a little grin.
"It sounds risky," Olivia said.
"It most likely is," Damian said.
She looked at him carefully and said "You have really changed,"
"You have as well," Damian said.
Olivia looked elsewhere and said "I didn't have any choice."
They sat in silence for a while.
Then Damian eventually broke it.
"I don't want there to be any animosity between us," he said.
"There isn't any bad blood I promise," Olivia replied.
"Are you sure?" He asked.
"Damian, I don't despise you."
"I never imagined you did," she said.
Olivia moved back and said "You broke my heart, but you did not ruin me."
Damian was quite.
"I got used to living without you," Olivia continued.
"I can see that," Damian said
"Why did you then invite me to come?" She asked.
He gazed directly at her and said "Because I don't want you interfering with my connection with Emily."
Olivia maintained a tranquil demeanor.
“I assured you I wouldn't,” she said.
"I had to hear it one more time." He said.
"I give you my word," she said as she nodded.
Damian eased up slightly.
Olivia paid attention.
"You truly adore her," she said.
"I do," Damian said in return.
She was hurt by that answer more than she had expected.
However, she displayed no indication of it.
Instead, she grinned.
"Then I suppose we must part ways," she said.
He fixed his eyes on her.
"Olivia—" he called.
"Don't," Olivia murmured softly.
She got up.
She wasn't going to fight this time.
She won't engage in playful behavior with him.
She wouldn't cause any problems.
She would simply turn around and leave.
But she looked back before she departed.
"You have to tell Emily the truth about us," said Olivia.
Damian frowned and asked
"What is the truth?"
Olivia smiled and said "You are well aware of what I'm say."
Before he had a chance to reply, she departed.
Bewildered, Damian remained at the table.
He started to consider if Olivia was hiding anything from him for the first time.
In the meantime, Emily waited alone for Damian.
She checked her watch.
He came late.
Just a little bit.
But every minute seemed to last longer than the last.
Again, she put her hand on her tummy.
"I'll tell him tonight," she said quietly.
She had already made her choice.
Regardless of what followed, Damian deserved to be told that he was about to become a father.
Her phone suddenly rang.
It was Damian.
Emily answered it instantly.
"Hello?" Emily said.
Damian said, "Emily, I apologize." "Something came up."
Her heart sank.
"Are you okay?" Emily asked.
"Indeed," replied Damian. "I simply require a little more time."
Emily closed her eyes.
She was ready.
Now she must wait.
"Where are you?" Emily inquired.
There was a little pause.
"I'm still outside," Damian said.
Emily did not push for more information.
She murmured, "Alright."
Damian pledged, "I will be with you as quickly as I can,” and ended the call.
Emily kept the phone on the table.
She had no clue where Damian was.
She was unsure as to what was delaying him.
And she didn't realize that just minutes earlier, he had been sitting opposite Olivia.
She slowly got up.
She had her hand over her tummy.
She had ultimately summoned the courage to confess the truth to Damian tonight, however, something had driven them apart.
And now she did not know how long she would have to wait before she could say those words;
"You're going to be a father, Damian."
Margaret had convinced herself for years that Thomas Reed was no longer in her life until a single phone call shattered that comforting fiction."Where is he?" Margaret questioned firmly. The man on the other end of the line stopped for a moment."We don't know precisely where he is," he said in response. "However, he was seen in Manhattan by someone."Margaret's hands clenched the edge of her desk."After all this time, he chooses to return now?"The man said to her, "He may not have returned for you."Margaret was quiet. She was more terrified by that notion than by anything else.Thomas was the chief of security for her deceased husband. He was also there when Emily's parents began investigating shady financial dealings involving Carter Holdings.Emily's parents then died. After that, Thomas disappeared swiftly.Margaret had never pressed too hard for answers as to why he vanished. She had put too much effort into protecting herself and establishing her position as Emily's guardian
Despite surviving too many secrets, Margaret was afraid of opening a mere door. Her hands trembled at the sound of footsteps outside of her study. She inserted the photo into the drawer, secured it, and then the door opened.Behold, it was Ryan. For a while, mother and son gazed at one another in silence.Margaret was the first to regain her composure."You should have knocked, Ryan," Margaret commented."You should have picked up your phone," Ryan said in response."I've been occupied.""What are you busy with?"Margaret raised an eyebrow."Must I explain my daily schedule to my own son?""No. However, perhaps you should explain how a photo of Emily's parents is hidden in your house."Margaret's face went white.just for a second. She smiled after that."Isn't it true that Emily has been asking questions once again?" Margaret inquired."What bothers you about it?""I know how readily old family matters can be misinterpreted."He gave her a thorough examination."Some kind of family m
It seemed as though the air in the room was being pulled in by that image.Emily noticed the unfamiliar man standing beside her parents.Sophia moved nearer."Do you know him?" Sophia asked.Emily shook her head from side to side."No," Emily replied. "I've never seen him before."Ryan kept his gaze fixed on the picture and answered, "I have."Emily turned sharply."Where?" Emily asked.Ryan hesitated."I can't recall his name.""That's not what I asked," Emily said.Ryan stared at her."I met him once when I was younger. At my mom's house."Sophia's expression grew hard."Margaret was acquainted with him?" Sophia asked.Ryan answered, "I believe so.""Do you think so?" Emily asked.Ryan rubbed his forehead.“She never gave any explanation for the people who came and went around my mother.”Emily looked at the picture once more."Why would my parents be involved with this man?"Ryan didn't have an answer.Neither did Sophia. For a moment, nobody spoke. Then Emily noticed something."W
Ryan had been avoiding Emily for weeks, but now that he understood he needed to see her, every route appeared to bring him back to her.Emily expected another update regarding the divorce when she arrived at Sophia's office the next afternoon.Upon spotting Ryan at Sophia's desk, she stopped. Her heart felt like it was tightening."What are you doing here?" Emily asked.Ryan stood on his feet and said, "I asked Sophia for a meeting."Emily said, "You should have checked with me first.""I suspected you would say no," Ryan replied."So at last, you know me well enough to say that," she said. For a moment, he looked at her."I heard you still want to go ahead with the divorce," he said."Yes, I will,” she replied."Are you happy?" He asked.Emily nearly laughed."Is that what you came here to ask?" She said "No,” he replied."Then ask what brought you here," she said.Ryan turned his gaze to Sophia."I've found out something regarding your inheritance."Emily's expression shifted."Wha
Even though Damian shut the penthouse door, the quietness between them seemed like another obstacle that neither of them knew how to remove.Emily gripped her bag tightly as she remained at the door.Damian watched her for a brief period of time."You came," Damian said.Emily replied, "You asked me to come."Damian said, "I wasn't sure you'd show up.""I also had some reservations," Emily said. They went into the living room.Emily recalled the last time she had been in that place. She had been keeping something hidden.Damian was now aware of it.But the secret's weight had increased in some way."Do you want a beverage?"Damian askedEmily replied, "No, thank you.""Would you like coffee?" Damian extended an offer.Emily nearly smiled at that."You know lately, coffee hasn't been my friend," she said.Damian said, "I remember."The quiet came back.Damian's attention briefly shifted to her before he averted his gaze. And Emily also looked at him quietly."You've been thinking about
Damian had been struggling with the urge to ask a single question all night, and by morning, it was all he could think about.Emily stood in front of Sophia's flat, observing as the grey morning enveloped Manhattan. She had barely slept.Damian didn't reject her because of it.Infact, he had not rejected her at all. However, he had made a very clear point by not saying anything. The door was opened by Sophia."You're here ahead of time," remarked Sophia.Emily said, "I couldn't sleep."Sophia gave her face a look."Has Damian called?"Emily said, "Yes.""And?"Emily averted her eyes.He is eager to meet with me this evening.Sophia waited patiently. What Emily was actually asking was understood by her.“Does he trust you?” Sophia asked but Emily replied, "He wants time," instead.Sophia nodded her head slowly."Time has the potential to mean many different things," she said "I know," Emily said."What does it mean to you, then?" Sophia asked.A weak grin was all that Emily could must
