When Damian's voice entered her ears, Emily's heart began to beat quickly.

"Emily, there's something I need to tell you about Olivia," said Damian.

Emily sat on the mattress's side.

“What about her?” Emily enquired.

"She's been getting in touch with me again," Damian stated after a brief silence.

Emily's forehead wrinkled. "Why?" Emily questioned.

Damian responded, "I have no idea." "She says she wants to talk about our history."

Emily dropped her stare. "Are you still seeing her?" Asked Emily.

"No," Damian said right away. Two years ago, our relationship came to an end.

"You were engaged," Emily replied.

Damian responded, "Yes." However, the relationship ended before we even met.

Emily remained quiet.

She didn't want to seem envious.

She didn't want Damian to know how much the idea of Olivia disturbed her either.

"What's the purpose of telling me this?" Emily said.

"Because I don't want you to hear something from someone else and think I kept it from you," Damian stated.

Emily's chest became tight.

"Thanks for letting me know," she stated.

Damian paused.

"Is there anything wrong?" he questioned.

Emily almost confessed everything.

She almost said what had been in her mind since the hospital.

I'm expecting a baby.

Yet terror kept her back.

"I'm just exhausted," Emily replied.

"I see," Damian replied.

Emily stated, "I need some alone time."

"Take your time," Damian said and hung up the phone.

Emily put her phone down beside her.

She had believed that she would feel better after the phone call but instead, she was even more bewildered.

The truth about Olivia had been revealed by Damian.

Emily wondered how well she really knew the woman who had previously been his fiancée, though, because of how he had spoken about their past.

---

Olivia never thought of herself as an envious woman. She considered herself to be patient.

There was a distinction.

She spent that night alone in her apartment, gazing at an old picture of the night she and Damian became engaged.

Olivia had believed three years earlier that she would live out the rest of her days with him. Their relationship appeared flawless from the outside.

Damian was well-regarded, affluent, and powerful.

Olivia came from a family which was aware of the importance of his name.

Their families had been brought together as a result of their engagement.

When the doors were locked, everything changed. Damian had grown apart from them. He spent more time working.

He was no longer interested in their future.

Eventually, he broke off the relationship.

Olivia hadn't handled it nicely.

"You can't just leave everything behind after three years," Olivia had told him.

"We've both evolved," Damian said.

Olivia had said, "I still love you."

Damian answered, "I don't feel the same."

She had remembered those words.

She never asked him to stay, but she walked away instead.

She never stopped looking out for him though.

Olivia quickly noticed a difference after Emily entered Damian's world.

He kept an eye on her. He paid attention to her. And, most importantly, he seemed prepared to let Emily in.

More than Olivia was willing to confess, that disturbed her.

Olivia never hated Emily when she found out they were now seeing each other because she had people watching him like a hawk. She just didn't get why Damian had given another woman something he had withheld from her.

Olivia grabbed her phone because Claire, her assistant, was calling her..

"Did you speak with Damian?" Claire asked. "Yes," Olivia said. "And then?" Claire asked.

"He still doesn't know my reason for contacting him."

"Are you making an effort to get him back?" Claire asked. Olivia grinned.

"I'm not certain." Claire remained silent.

A locked drawer caught Olivia's eye.

"There are things that Damian doesn't know," Olivia stated. "What things?" Claire asked. "His father's possessions."

Claire's voice grew wary.

From side to side, Olivia's head moved.

She opened the drawer.

Inside was a little black box.

She removed it and placed it on the table.

It contained papers and vintage photographs.

In one image, a few people were chatting with Damian's father.

She stared at it.

Olivia said, "I held onto these for a cause."

Claire became concerned.

"What do you plan to do?"

“I am not going to do anything with it for now,” she said as she closed the box.

She looked at the picture of herself and Damian.

"I've been waiting for two years," Olivia said. "I am able to wait a little longer."

She replaced the box where she brought it.

Then her phone started ringing again.

She glanced at the screen. Her expression shifted because of the name on the caller ID.

"Why are you calling me?" Olivia wondered. Through the phone, a man's voice was heard.

You requested me to find something for you.

Olivia said, "Yes." "I discovered it."

Olivia sat up upright.

"Where?" The man came to a halt.

"You've got a bigger problem than you realize." Olivia's face hardened.

"What exactly did you uncover?"

The man spoke more gently.

"Something that Damian's father left behind." Olivia's eyes narrowed.

"Where is it?"

The guy promised to tell her only if she came to a location that he dropped for her and ended the call.

Olivia stared at the phone.

For the first time in years, she seemed genuinely nervous. Because she knew exactly what Damian's father had been hiding. Additionally, everything could change if the file were still available.
