Chapter 2

Author: Bonnie
A moonlight crystal hung on the bedroom wall.

Two names were carved into its surface: Damon Ashford & Clara Wellick

Below them was a single line: Witnessed by the Moon Goddess. Bound by wolf blood. Mark eternal.

It was proof of a real mate. Only wolves who completed a formal marking ceremony received a crystal like this.

Damon followed me in from the living room.

“Sylvia, you should rest in the guest room. Clara’s wolf soul has been unstable lately, and this bedroom faces the moon directly. The moon energy is strongest here, so I let her stay.”

Halfway through speaking, he noticed the crystal on the wall. His breathing paused for a second.

“Sylvia, that crystal is just to satisfy City Hall's requirements. It is not real.”

I looked at him without speaking.

A flicker of panic crossed his eyes. He reached for my arm.

“Sylvia, don’t misunderstand. You’re the only one in my heart—”

I stepped away before he could touch me.

In six years together, it was the first time I had rejected him like this. My wolf tensed inside my chest, ears pinned back. Not anger. A defensive instinct I had never shown Damon before.

His hand froze in midair. He was about to speak when Clara suddenly rushed in from outside.

“Miss Whitmore, please don’t argue with Damon.” Her eyes were already red, her voice trembling. “It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have moved in and caused trouble for you. I’ll leave right now.”

Damon immediately stopped her.

“This has nothing to do with you.”

Tears rolled down Clara’s face. Her wolf was crying too, low whimpers escaping from her chest, broken and mournful.

“Damon, you’ve already done so much for me. My wolf soul was damaged, and you helped stabilize it. Without you, I might’ve lost control long ago. I can’t let Miss Whitmore become unhappy because of me.”

The sight of her reddened eyes and the grief in her wolf howl struck Damon directly in the heart.

His voice softened immediately. “Don’t worry. As long as I’m here, nothing will happen to you. Sylvia won’t be angry over this. You don’t need to leave. Just stay here and rest.”

I looked at the two of them and gave a faint smile.

“Of course. Why would I be upset? This place will belong to you sooner or later anyway.”

After saying that, I turned and walked out of the bedroom.

Behind me, Clara let out another weak whimper.

“Miss Whitmore is still upset…”

This time, Damon said nothing.

He followed me into the hallway and grabbed my wrist.

“Sylvia, what did you mean just now? What do you mean this is her home? Clara’s wolf soul is injured. She needs moon energy to recover. I’m only trying to help her. You’ve always been understanding. You understand this too, don’t you?”

I lowered my eyes to the hand gripping my wrist.

“Damon, I never said she couldn’t stay. I’m not throwing a tantrum either. I left the table because I can’t stand the smell of moon herbs. You put a lot of it in her food.”

Damon froze. He looked down at his own fingers. Moon herb residue still stained his skin. It was the main ingredient in Clara’s stabilizing medicine, and the scent always gave me splitting headaches.

When he prepared medicine for her, it never crossed his mind whether I would smell it too.

His lips parted slightly. “Sylvia, I—”

A heavy thud suddenly came from inside the bedroom.

Damon’s expression changed instantly. He released my wrist and rushed back in.

“Clara! What happened?”

Panic filled his voice.

I walked to the bedroom doorway. Clara was kneeling on the floor, her forehead pressed against the bedpost. Dark red blood trailed down from the cut at her temple and stained the white sheets beneath her. Her wolf soul fluctuated violently, moon energy crashing wildly through her body. She was using physical pain to suppress the loss of control.

Damon pulled her up immediately and pressed one hand firmly against the wound on her forehead.

Then he turned to me. His voice was hurried and frantic, but not angry.

“Sylvia, go rest first. Her wolf soul is losing control. I’m taking her to the Pack medical facility.”

Clara was still struggling in his arms, broken wolf howls forcing their way from her throat. Damon carried her out quickly and disappeared down the hallway.

I stood there alone, watching their backs vanish from sight.

Damon found Shadowfang territory on the forty third night.I saw him crouched on the steps outside Marcus’s house. Moonlight fell on his face. He did not look like an Alpha anymore. His wolf soul was tired and broken. Like he had not slept properly in days.He stood up when he saw me.“Sylvia,” His voice was rough and smelled of alcohol.“You came,” I said.“I looked for you for a long time.”“You should go back to Clara. Her wolf soul still needs you.”Damon’s face changed.“I ended the mate bond with Clara. I sent her away.”I looked at him, “The mark is still on your neck.”He raised his hand and touched the healed bite mark on his neck. The one Clara left. A real mark. Real wolf blood exchange.“Sylvia. We can start over. I can—”“No.” I said. “You marked her, Damon. Her scent is still on your wolf soul. How can we start over?”“That mark is not what you think—”“That mark is real,” I said. “You bit through her skin. You gave her your wolf blood. Your wolf soul accepted her scent.

After Rowan said those words, I avoided him for days.Marcus did not understand, “Rowan does not hold grudges. He will not be angry.”“How do you know?” I said.“I have known him for years. Better than you do.”I did not argue. I had already joined the research team. The project was based in Shadowfang’s main house. My specialty was wolf soul theory. Rowan was the lead researcher. We had to work in the same lab.To catch up, I often stayed late to organize data. That night, when I finished, the sky was completely dark. Moonlight fell through the windows onto the stone floor. I stretched and walked out of the main house.Shadowfang territory was quiet at night. Only distant howls broke the silence.I walked a few steps and saw a figure standing by a moonstone lamp post.Rowan saw me and walked over, “Marcus said you were working late. I came by.”I looked up at the moon. It was almost at its peak. His house was on the other side of the territory. It was not on his way.But I did not ref

Clara felt the warm tears fall on her shoulder. Her heart finally relaxed. After they parted at the medical facility, Damon had not visited her for days. He did not even reply to her pack link calls. That had never happened before. So she came to see him today, to test the situation. The moment she walked in, she noticed that Sylvia’s things were gone. Before she could feel happy, someone delivered a moonstone necklace. The delivery wolf called her “mate.”All of this meant one thing. Sylvia and Damon were truly finished. As for the broken moon crystal, Clara thought Sylvia had smashed it out of anger before she left. It did not matter. Damon’s reaction proved his love for her. They could get more crystals. Prettier ones.Clara turned around joyfully and threw herself into Damon’s arms.“So now you know you were wrong? You pretended your heart belonged to her, but it was always mine. You broke my heart. If you do not make it up to me, I will not forgive you easily.”She lifted her chin

“Rowan, I was too harsh back then. I should have let you explain instead of blocking you.”Back then, I thought he was just another Alpha heir riding on his family’s name. I did not respect him. Later I learned his data was right. I was the one who misunderstood. His mouth twitched. “I accept your apology. But I did not wait six years just to hear you say sorry.”He looked at me. His gaze was steady. “Now that the misunderstanding is cleared, can I pursue you?”I did not expect him to still remember me after all these years.“Sorry. I am not ready for a new relationship.”Rowan did not back away, “After you blocked me, I wanted to explain. But you blocked every way I could reach you. Then I heard you had a mate. So I stopped trying.”“But in six years, I never forgot you. Will you think about it?”I looked at him. “I need time.”“I have waited six years. I can wait a few more days.”After I blocked his pack link, Damon did not sleep well anymore. He searched everywhere he could think o

Damon knelt on the living room floor. The torn pieces of the claim agreement were in his hands. Moonlight came through the window and fell on him. His wolf let out a low, mournful sound. When did she leave? Where did she go? He knew nothing. He remembered Sylvia’s silence from the past few days. She did not cry. She did not argue. She did not ask questions. He thought she had accepted Clara’s presence. He thought she understood. She had just been packing. He tried to reach her through the pack link over and over. Every call was blocked. He did not stop.Meanwhile, I was already on a flight to Shadowfang territory. Before takeoff, I sent Marcus a message. He did not ask questions. He just said, “Tell me when you land. I will pick you up.”I leaned against the window and watched the clouds pass. Marcus was my older brother. A few years ago, he joined a cross-territory medical research project on wolf soul healing. He had asked me to join many times. Their team needed someone with my back

  • His Fake Mark, Her Final Goodbye   Chapter 5

Damon searched all night. He went to the moonlit forest where Sylvia liked to walk. He went to the creek where she sat to read. He went to the place where they first met.Everywhere was empty. He returned home near dawn. His body was heavy with exhaustion. The living room had changed. Sylvia’s blanket was gone from the couch. Her clay cup was gone from the table. The moonstone decorations she collected were gone from the shelf.Everything that belonged to her had disappeared. He ran to the bedroom. Half the closet was empty. Her clothes were gone. Her comb was gone from the sink. Her book on wolf soul theory was gone from the nightstand. He stumbled to the cabinet and opened it with shaking hands. This was where Sylvia kept the things she had made for their marking ceremony. Moon Goddess knots she had braided herself. Moonvine patterns she had embroidered. Every piece had taken her months. The cabinet was empty.Clara had followed him inside. She saw the empty cabinet and let her lips
