CHOLE MOVES IN 1

~MAYA'S POV~

Three days.

It had been three days since Chloe walked in on that dinner, and I still couldn't breathe normally.

She was living in my apartment now—her pink suitcases scattered across the guest room, her makeup taking over the bathroom counter, her laughter echoing through the space that was supposed to be my cage, not hers.

And she believed the lie.

Or at least, she was pretending to.

"What are you doing in Maya's apartment?"

CRASHING DOWN ~MAYA'S POV~I did not sleep.I sat on the edge of the bed in the annex, still wearing the wet wine-stained turtleneck. I couldn't take it off. I just stared at the wall, watching the digital clock tick toward morning. Silas was in the other room. I could hear his voice....urgent, quick, commanding. He had been on the phone for six hours.Around 4:00 AM, my phone started vibrating on the duvet.Buzz. Buzz. Buzz.It didn't stop. I finally picked it up with numb hands.'342 Missed Calls.''1,102 Unread Messages.'"Oh god," I whispered.I opened the first notification. A link to a Twitter thread. The video was high-definition. It started right as Chloe stood up. You could hear every word. You could see Silas's face when she dropped the bomb. The caption: "BREAKING: Billionaire Silas King caught in affair with daughter's best friend."Underneath: #BillionaireDad #KingAffair #MayaVanceI scrolled down. My hands started shaking.@NYC_Gossip: "Confirmed! The girl is Maya Van

THE TOAST ~CHLOE'S POV~The lights in L'Eclat were too bright. Everything was gold, like the silverware, dishes, and even the walls. It felt like a place where you were putting on a show rather than just eating a meal.Perfect."I'm just so happy!"My voice got a bit high, and the woman at the next table looked over. "Look at us. The Three Musketeers. Back together, but upgraded."I took a huge gulp of champagne. It was cold enough to make my teeth ache.My dad was sitting opposite me, looking really happy and relaxed, like he owned everything. Maya, next to him, looked like she was dreading something bad.She had on the wool pants and turtleneck that he bought her. They were plain, neat, and covered her up.I wanted to rip it off her."You're vibrating, Chloe," Dad said. "Take a breath.""I don't need to breathe, Dad! I'm high on life!" I laughed too quick. "Don't you feel it? The energy? Everything's finally out in the open. No more secrets."Maya flinched. Her hand twitched agains

CAT OUT OF THE BAG~CHLOE'S POV~The lasagna was bubbling in the oven, filling the penthouse with the smell of garlic and tomato sauce. It was supposed to be a 'we're finally roommates' dinner. A 'let's pretend everything is normal' dinner.I was opening a bottle of wine when I saw it.Maya had run out this morning like the building was on fire. In her rush, she had left her work bag on the kitchen island, tipped over with a few pens and a lipstick scattered across the marble. And vibrating in the side pocket was a phone, not her phone.I knew Maya's phone—cracked screen protector, cat sticker peeling off the back. This one was sleek, midnight blue, expensive-looking."Maya?" I called out, even though I knew the apartment was empty. The phone buzzed again.I shouldn't have touched it. I should have just pushed it back into the bag.But Maya had been acting so weird lately. The earrings. The clothes. The "mystery boyfriend" she wouldn't name.I picked it up. The screen lit up, not eve

THE EMAIL~MAYA'S POV~"You're staring at the toaster again."Chloe's voice pulled me back to the kitchen. She was sitting at the island with her phone, hair in a messy bun, looking normal. Like she hadn't moved into the middle of a bomb waiting to go off."Just tired," I said, reaching for my coffee."Dad left at six this morning," Chloe said, not looking up. "Didn't even finish his espresso. That usually means he's about to fire someone or buy a country.""He has a lot on his plate."My phone buzzed on the counter. The notification light blinked. One new email. Subject: 'Regarding your position.'I picked it up, expecting HR updates or schedule changes. The screen stayed white for too long, then text appeared."I know you're sleeping with the boss. I know everything, Maya. Enjoy the view from the top while it lasts."The air left my lungs."Maya? You okay?" Chloe was standing now, leaning over the counter. "You look like you saw a ghost.""I'm fine," I said too fast, pulling the ph

ALMOST CAUGHT ~MAYA'S POV~"Have you seen him?"Chloe came up to me with a glass of champagne. She looked great in her black dress, but her eyes seemed different – pointed and more knowing than before."Who?" I asked, adjusting my dress strap in the mirrored hallway of the Pierre Hotel."My father." She nodded toward the bar. "He's on his fourth scotch. Maybe fifth. I've never seen him drink like that at a work event."I followed her gaze and my stomach dropped.Silas was standing by the bar in his tuxedo, jacket unbuttoned, tie loosened, and he looked dangerous.Usually, he was a fort of control. Seeing him like this...relaxed, flushed, predatory...made my heart race for all the wrong reasons."Maybe it's just stress," I said weakly."Stress from what? The merger's done." Chloe narrowed her eyes at me. "He keeps looking at you, Maya. Even when he's talking to the Mayor, his eyes are on you. It's creepy. Even for him.""You're imagining it.""Am I?" She turned to face me fully. "Be

CHOLE MOVES IN 2~MAYA POV ~By lunch, I was falling apart.Chloe had texted wanting to meet for salad in the lobby, but Silas had ordered me to his office, so I lied and said I had a vendor meeting in Midtown.I waited until I saw her leave the building on the security feed, then locked myself in his office."This has to stop," I said, dropping my bag on the sofa. "She's starting to ask questions. She knows something's off.""Then move back into my suite," he said, walking toward me. "Get rid of the roommate.""She's your daughter! She dropped out of school, she's lost, she thinks I'm the only person who doesn't want something from her!""And you're lying to her face every hour," he countered. "Does the guilt outweigh the benefit, Maya?""I'm falling apart.""Only one life is a lie," he said, pulling me close. "The one where you pretend you don't belong here."He kissed me, hard and claiming, and for a second I forgot about everything else."I left something," he said against my lips

THE REJECTION~MAYA'S POV~The silence in the lodge felt stronger than the storm did.For two days, Silas hadn't looked at me. Not directly. He looked through me, around me, at his phone, at the snow, at his daughter—anywhere but my eyes.I felt like a ghost haunting a glass mansion."Pass the salt
