The blood drained from my face. For a second, my heart went completely still.

She’d told them the truth.

There was a pounding in my head, which grew louder with each passing minute.

“Can’t you speak?” she hissed, “I said who is the scumbag who got you pregnant!”

I couldn’t say a word. What was there to say? That I didn’t know him? That it was no more than a stranger I’d met at the club?

“Please tell me it’s some respectable gentleman who’d be willing to wed you and save us from this shame,” my mother pleaded, tears filling her eyes, but I remained silent.

A respectable gentleman wouldn’t be at a club, partying and having flings with random, desperate girls. A respectable man wouldn’t have abandoned me in a hotel, without even a note to tell me he was gone.

One thing was clear, my faceless stranger was anything but respectable.

“I told you,” My father said to Grace, “We should have gotten rid of her when we had the chance.”

His words cut through me like daggers. I wasn’t unaware that my parents couldn’t wait to be rid of me, that was exactly why I’d been promised to the first available person. Still, they’d never once said the words right to my face, never. Not until now.

Rage built up in my chest. So I made a mistake and ended up pregnant, but the only reason I’d gone to that club was because I’d felt the need to prove something to myself; for the first time in my life, I wanted to be everything they believed me to be.

This was all as much their faults as it was mine.

Burning with anger, there was only one person I could direct it on.

My gaze met Rosalia, and I closed the distance between us.

“How could you be so heartless?” I asked, my stare burning into her. “How could you be this so…cruel?”

I’d begged her for a little more time, I’d even agreed to her stupid request, all so she could keep this a secret.

I should have known better. I should have known Rosalia was never planning to keep to her words.

“Bella, you know more than anyone else how much I love you—I only did this for you,” she said, her eyes filled with false emotion. “I knew on your own you’d never be able to muster the courage to tell them, so I did the hard part for you.”

“You bitch!” I gritted out with all the anger I could muster, and she flinched like I’d hit her; tears trailed her cheeks. If I didn’t know her well enough, I would have fallen for her act.

“Bellatrix!” my father called warningly. “Don’t you dare speak to your elder sister with such disrespect.”

“I didn’t mean to hurt you, really,” Rosalia was saying, “I only did what I thought was right.”

“Oh please, quit the pretense,” I sneered.

“I will not warn you again,” my father threatened.

“Could you for once open your eyes and see the monster you all call daughter. Every kind gesture from her is nothing but a lie, she is a fake—”

Pain exploded on my face from the punch I’d just received from my father. Blood dripped down my now broken nose, and I spat out a bloodied tooth.

“She isn’t the one who got knocked up by a stranger, nor is she the one constantly bringing shame to this family!” my father bellowed.

“You tried to snatch your own sister’s finance, yet you still can’t see that you’re nothing but a rotten egg—you can’t see that you’re the problem,” my mother spat.

I wondered if they’d think their daughter so innocent, if they knew that the perfect Rosalia had lost her virginity at thirteen, to a pack soldier who’d at that time been five years older than she was.

Or maybe, even then, they’d choose to turn a blind eye to that too.

“You’re not so innocent either—none of you are!” I cried out, “If you weren’t both shitty parents none of this would have happened in the first place—”

For the second time, pain seared through my cheek. This time though, it was my mother.

For such a small woman, my mother possessed such strange strength.

“Say one more word,” she threatened, “And I swear to you, you’d spend the next months in the dungeons.”

She meant it.

I could see it on her face.

“We’ll have to fix this—and fast,” she said, “Your marriage to General Martins is in a month, we’ll have to shift the date.”

“What?”

“You’ll be eighteen in two weeks,” she went on, like I hadn’t spoken, “I don’t see the need to delay the marriage two weeks longer.

While the preparations are being put in place, you cannot let Martins know of the pregnancy. You must be intimate with him as soon as you get married, this way, he won’t have any reason to question the child not being his, got it?”

“But we can’t—”

“I’m this close,” she whispered, “Just this close, to making you disappear from our lives forever. Don’t test me.

You’ll do as you're told, Bellatrix, with no questions.”

I woke up with a start. My breaths were ragged.I remembered now. The stranger I’d met at the club, the same one who’d abandoned me in a hotel room, was the same man I’d just met.Clinton.My shaky hands reached for my neck, and I flinched. The bruise hadn’t yet healed.I realized that I was still in the same black dress I’d worn to dinner earlier.I sat up from the bed.It all made sense now. It made sense why I thought he looked familiar; I could have sworn I’d seen those eyes before—and I had.Bare-footed, I matched out of my room, and straight into his own room. It was the last place I ever thought I’d go; and yet I needed answers, and I was going to get them.He wasn’t here. I walked deeper into his room, coming to a pause before the picture on the wall. It was a picture of Clinton, only he looked different. His eyes seemed more alive, filled with emotions, and perhaps it had something to do with the stunningly beautiful brunette woman by his side. Her smile was soft and inno

ALPHA CLINTONKonrad hadn’t lied. Bellatrix was indeed beautiful, but I’d imagine she’d be even more beautiful if her sunken cheeks were filled out, if her pale skin had some color to it, and her dull chestnut hair was given better care. Her appearance left me wondering what exactly was the living conditions she was forced to endure at Ironclan Pack?“Should I send for the healers?” Konrad questioned,“She’ll be fine, she just needs some rest.”I wiped her blood off my lips.Okay, maybe I’d gone a bit over with the marking—a little scare was all I’d intended and I’d assumed her wolf would be able to handle it, but it seemed I’d overestimated her wolf’s strength.I’ll have to be more careful. There were already enough rumours going around about me, I didn’t exactly want to have my second wife's death in the list of my ‘evil deeds’. “Agatha’s been wanting to speak with you,” my beta informed. I let out an exasperated breath.“I’ll meet up with her later.” Or never.“So, what do you thi

He had dark brown eyes, flecked with gold, charcoal-brown hair and a face that seemed to have been carved to perfection. He was tall, the type that drew gazes—as if his aura alone wasn’t enough to do that.He strode into the room with the air of a man used to owning spaces.Rosalia pulled me to my feet, making it seem like she’d only been trying to help me up.I shoved away from her.“A–alpha Clinton,” My mother stammered, and for the first time in my life, I saw something in her eyes I never thought I’d ever see. Fear.“I meant no disrespect—”“And yet you threaten my wife, in my pack,” he stated,“I–I apologise," she breathed. If I wasn’t filled with so much rage, I’d have burst into laughter at the scene. “She might have been under your care her whole life,” he said, closing in, “But she’s married to me now.”“I understand, this will not repeat itself—”“For your sake, I hope not.”All along, Rosalia had been strangely quiet. The look on her face was one I recognized; she was chec

BELLATRIX.I’d believed I could do it, I’d believed I could go through the days without thinking about Audrey, but I couldn’t.More times than I could count, I’d absentmindedly reached for my phone to share updates with her, only to be reminded we weren’t exactly on talking termsAudrey and I had always been inseparable ever since we were kids. I told her everything and she never kept anything from me. She was the sister I never had and without her, I felt more alone than I’d ever been.I read through our past chats with a sad smile on my face.I missed her so much.Calling her would only make things worse, but I couldn’t help it when my hands reached for the dial button.Audrey was the one person I always felt safe around, and yet, I couldn’t help but feel nervous as the phone rang.‘You’ve reached Audrey’s voice mail, please drop a message or try again later.’ My heart slumped in my chest. I called again, and again, but they all went straight to voicemails.I returned to our chat.

ALPHA CLINTON’S POVI sat on the bar stool, twirling the glass of genever in my grip. It was a distasteful drink, yet it was the only thing I took whenever I came here.My beta’s scent hit me even before I spotted him.It always bothered me how he managed to keep his hair so immaculately in place at all times—even during fights. It was unnerving.“Alpha,” Konrad addressed with a swift bow, before taking the stool beside me.He doesn’t bother asking why I’d chosen one of the scrappiest pubs in the pack to have a drink in. By now, he’d understood I was weird like that.“You’re late,” I noted.“It’s a thirty minutes’ drive from the jewellery shop to here.”“Fifteen minutes if you ran instead,” I noted. “Where is it?”He took out the small crimson, jewel box and handed it to me. “I think she’ll like it.” I stuck the box in my pocket, only to be met with his cocked brow.“What?” “Aren’t you going to have a look at it?”“I trust you,” I said, then called the waiter over. “A glass of whis

“Why are you crying?” Esmee asked. I hadn’t even realized I was. “Did I make you sad?” I quickly wiped my tears, then walked to her.“No, of course not. It’s just…you remind me of someone.” I said, before swiftly changing the topic. “So, why were you spying on me earlier?”. “Will I get in trouble?” she questioned softly.“Not at all,” I said, with a soft smile.“Are you going to stay here forever?” she asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.“Depends, would you like me to?”“Yes! Yes! Yesss!” she sang, and I couldn’t help the emotion blooming in my chest. It was my dream to be a mother—that dream had been so abruptly stolen from me three years ago, yet now, it felt like fate was giving me another chance.“Then I’ll stay.”“Yay!!!” she rejoiced. Then skipped off the bed. “Come, I’ll show all my toys,” she said, excitedly pulling me after her.***It’s been three days.Three days since I’d gotten ‘married,’ and yet, I had not a faintest idea of who my husband was.Konrad's response was
