The tracker’s smile didn’t reach his eyes.

He sniffed again, slower this time, head tilting like he was sorting threads in the air. His gaze slid from me to Daire and back, something calculating flickering there.

“Overkill,” he murmured. “You always this territorial, Nightmoor, or is it just when the Tribunal takes an interest?”

Daire’s hand on my lower back tightened fractionally. “You’re on my property,” he said, voice flat. “You expected me to greet you with flowers?”

“Flowers don’t get logged in incident reports,” the tracker said. “Scent does.”

The handler cleared her throat sharply. “Voss,” she snapped at him. “Focus.”

Voss. I filed the name away.

Her attention shifted to me, her expression smoothing into bureaucratic neutral. “We need to move,” she said. “The panel expects you at the facility within the hour.”

“Then you’d better not waste time trying to walk me through a crowd,” I said. “You’ve seen his scent on me. You’ve read the order. Let’s do this without turning my neighb

The gurney-blocked corridor was only the rehearsal. The main act came later—after the lights, after Crowe’s voice wrapped around my name like a noose; after the cameras drank in every second of my “evaluation” and the donors learned the words *Lunaris vessel* with the same hungry cadence they used for *exclusive lot.*They didn’t drug me. Valen held that line. They didn’t cut me. Yet.They measured, and they hummed, and they pretended this was neutral science. Then they led me back out of the hall like a dangerous animal they’d just proven safe enough to sell. From the outside, it probably looked like a win for them. Calm subject. No broken bones. No explosions.Inside, every step rattled the bars in my head.***The exit route was never going to be through the front. They sent me down a side corridor, cameras still quietly blinking red. The handler walked at my elbow, Voss a few paces behind, the same two enforcers bracketing us with rifles slung.“Transport bay,” the handler said te

The doors shut with a thick, padded thump, sealing me into a corridor that smelled like lemon cleaner and old fear. The message still burned on my retinas.*I’ll take you gently… or I’ll take you bleeding.*“Phone,” the handler said, holding out her hand.I looked up slowly. “Evidence,” I said. “Of harassment by a Tribunal-adjacent actor. You really want to delete that?”Her mouth flattened. She tapped her tablet instead, fingers moving fast. “Log incoming,” she told the enforcer with the bodycam. “Subject received external message during transfer. Content preserved in case file.”Only then did she nod at my cuffed hands. “May I?”I let her slide the phone out of my grip. She scanned the screen, jaw tightening as she read Calista’s words. A tiny muscle jumped at her temple. Then she held the phone up to the enforcer’s cam.“Visual record acquired,” she said crisply. “Suspected interference by private party. Sending to Crowe.”So Calista wanted to play in front of cameras now. Good.Th

The doorframe filled with uniforms and tribunal gray. Two enforcers in body armor. A handler with a tablet. In the middle, a man in a trim coat the color of dried blood, his nose tilted slightly as if the air offended him.Tracker.His eyes flicked over the room in one quick pass—guards, Kieran in the corner, Daire standing just in front of me—and then landed on me as if they’d never left.“Elowen Nightmoor?” he asked, though his nostrils were already flaring, reading the room’s scents like a map.“She has a name,” Daire said. “Use it without the inventory tone.”The handler at his side held up the tablet. The tribunal crest glowed at the top of the warrant. *Temporary Custody Evaluation Order,* Crowe’s digital signature stamped like a bruise.“We’re here under Tribunal authority,” she said. “You’ve been notified. Elowen is ordered to present herself for immediate transfer to a secure facility. We’d like this to go smoothly.”Smoothly. Like this was a house call, not a snatch.Every m

“However,” Crowe went on smoothly, “given the credible concerns about unregistered omega property, Lunaris indicators, and public safety, we are authorizing immediate *temporary custody evaluation.*”The words fell like cold stones. My mind went flat and sharp all at once.*Rule Three: evaluation equals detention.*Not a suggestion. A sentence.“What does that mean?” I asked, though I already knew. Needles. White walls. No doors.“It means,” Crowe said, voice almost gentle, “that pending full review of your status, you will be placed under Tribunal supervision. Medical assessment. Bond-resonance scans. Bloodline mapping. Psychological screening to ensure you are stable and not a danger to yourself or others.”“Like the video you faked,” I said coldly. “The one where I “attacked” your man.”He didn’t blink. “You exhibited uncontrolled power in a public setting today,” he said. “Shattered a wall, I hear. That alone justifies containment until we understand your capabilities.”Kieran swo

The Tribunal didn’t even bother with a gavel.Just a tone—sharp and metallic—cutting through the apartment’s speakers as Daire accepted the call. The TV blinked from a muted newsfeed to the Tribunal seal, cold and bright as a scalpel. My name glowed beneath it. Then Daire’s. Then, a reference string: *Emergency Marital Contract Review / Asset Compliance.*“Sit,” Daire said roughly.“I’m not a dog,” I answered. But I sat because my knees threatened to go.The camera on the TV shimmered, auto-focusing. A live-streaming courtroom unfolded; or rather, a sleek, staged imitation of one. Neutral gray walls, the tribunal crest behind a high bench, three officials in well-cut suits, and expressionless faces. In the center, just slightly elevated above the others, sat Inquisitor Vaelen Crowe.Of course. He smiled like someone had just gifted him a new knife.“Alpha Daire Nightmoor,” he said. “Elowen—” He flicked his gaze to the file in front of him. “Nightmoor, for the moment.
