I Became His Mate

This life of mine is challenging, and while I believed that I would be a lone wolf for the rest of my life because I am a feeble wolf without a mate, I never anticipated that the man whom I had desired for a significant amount of time would be with me.

"At what are you focusing your attention?" Blake abruptly stepped in and asked me that question with his deep voice; I could feel my heart beating faster than usual.

"Why are you behaving in such a manner? Blake. Even if we shouldn't be together right now, we are meant to be with each—"

"You expect me to be happy after our parents arranged things between us, do you? Well, I knew you were one of them." He broke my train of thought. I found myself looking down and blinking my eyes quite a few times.

"I'm sorry," I say.

"You're not. My friends are coming; I want you not to bother to show up." He informed me and ordered me at the same time.

I give him the benefit of the doubt. "What's the point?" I inquired. "Are you busy with something with them? Well, I could get you something if you want—"

"I don't need anything from you." I was left stunned and unable to comprehend what he had said; he rolled his eyes before walking away.

I understand him. He is not even behaving in an impolite manner. He is acting in the manner that an independent man would.

I realize that Blake is merely a man who has a lot of arrogance, but I also know that this does not necessarily mean that he will treat me with disrespect at all times.

I would go to great lengths to help him.

I started putting together a meal for him, complete with beverages and other items. I have just entered his office, and he's focused on the computer.

"Blake. I'm sure many things are running through your head right now. It would help if you had this," I told him as I placed the serving tray on his table, and he didn't even dare to look at me while inspecting the food, but I knew he was paying attention to what I was saying.

"Blake?" His pals walked in on him unexpectedly, which caused him to become startled; as a result, he knocked over the food and drinks I had just set out on the table.

His companions laughed and wrinkled their brows in amusement.

"Damn bro. . ." they are all muttering to each other while glancing at me to see how he reacts.

One of his buddies asked, "What exactly is she doing in your office?" I am entirely at a loss for what to do, he had already warned me not to show up to his friends, but they saw me.

"I am Artemis—"

They interrupted me by saying, "We know."

"But what business do you have in this place?" One of them added.

I am speechless. . . I don't want to give them words without Blake’s sign.

I look over at Blake, who appears repulsed by what I've done, especially considering that he instructed me not to show up once his buddies arrived, but it's too late for that now.

"I am his mate," I said confidently; they seemed confused. I heaved a sigh, kneeled, and started to pick up what he had knocked off.

"Don't mind her. She is merely an assistant to me," he spoke, and his words surprised me—I didn't move an inch, and I was still attempting to clean up the mess he caused.

It doesn't bother me in the least. We've not been with each other for a long time, and I understand he's still trying to adjust.

"Really?"

"Bro, are you even trying to be taken seriously?" His pal expressed curiosity. "It's a joke that you even consider her your partner." His pal added.

Everyone else in the room started laughing except him. He grasped my hand unexpectedly, and his eyes became more intense as he continued to look at me.

"Get out of here," he ordered, mumbling in a calm and collected tone. He does not want to create a complication at this moment.

"I haven't cleaned the mess yet—"

"I told you to get out of here simply," he said in a subsequent statement. I can see that the anger in his eyes has made them crimson, and I don't want the situation to worsen.

He's probably attempting to deflect the matter by laughing in front of his friends, but he does it nonetheless. I do not have any other option except to depart from his office.

I have a depressing feeling. I press my body against the wall and position myself to hear them.

"I don't understand how someone could claim you as their partner."

"She's stupid," Blake's response to his friend's inquiry was, and the two of them chuckled about it.

I heaved a sigh.

"You better court that chick’s sister—"

"Stop talking about girls," Blake cut him off.

I suppose that he is still willing to show pity toward me.

"Why? Don't you wish you could get a taste of them?"

"Shut up, Kevin," He commanded, but the others could only laugh at him.

How they are conversing annoys me. The fact that they are being rude in every possible manner hurts me to my very core—after deciding to leave, I didn't anticipate seeing Amanda, who was his mother.

While inspecting my garment, she questioned, "God, Artemis, why are you looking like a mess?"

"An accident," was the response I gave. She asked me, "Are you sure?" to reassure me. I don't want anyone to suspect something wrong with me.

"I'm good, aunt—"

She interrupted me by saying, "Call me mommy." I'm still uncomfortable, and I have no idea how to adjust myself to Blake.

"Uh. . . Yeah, I guess so, mom!" I beamed and nodded in agreement—she flashed a smirk before placing a comforting touch on my shoulder and walking away.

I am well aware that he would resent me for referring to his mother as his mother. . . Already, he had forewarned me about it.

Blake took a sudden step down the stairs and began to speak. "I don't want you to," he said.

"What?" I stammered.

He lowered his head and muttered, "You embarrass me in front of my friends, Artemis."

"I truly apologize. . ." I remarked—I could tell how angry he was just by looking at the expression on his face.

"Stop acting as if you're about to break down and cry. You were looking for this. I am aware that you have been instrumental in bringing about the introduction of us, and despite this fact, I would prefer that you not refer to my mother as your mother. You're not acceptable in our life."
