Chapter 2 Exposed in Broad Daylight

Autor: Milo Hart
"Besides, Elliot really does see me as his mom!"

The nerve she had to say something like that when the hickeys on her neck hadn't even faded yet.

However, I soon noticed that Diana's eyes were starting to look more and more like Elliot's. Even the lines on her face had deepened. Yet, she seemed oddly proud of it. I even caught her going around telling people that she was probably blessed into becoming more like Elliot by the day.

I let out a short, mocking laugh. "Why didn't you explain it like that to the director last night then?"

Elliot's expression soured further, his face stiffening.

"I see? So, you did explain, but the director didn't buy it." I pressed on, my voice laced with sarcasm.

Diana opened her mouth to speak, but I cut her off coldly. "If you're so desperate to be his mom, don't end up regretting it the day you actually become her."

The show was yet to begin.

Diana had originally been Elliot's trainee. She only had a vocational school background and didn't even possess a proper certification. Yet, she was drawing a salary at the hospital. Frankly, the other doctors had long been fed up with her presence.

The two had only quieted down ever since Elliot had been harshly reprimanded—or so everyone thought.

The very next day, Elliot showed up with her at a public medical seminar again.

I was three minutes late because of a surgery. The moment I walked in, Diana covered her mouth, barely hiding her glee. "Aren't we demonstrating CPR? Since Amber's late, why don't we have her do it?"

She hooked her arm around mine with fake familiarity and pushed me toward the old security guard.

Then, she said, "The instructor was just worrying about finding a volunteer. You can demonstrate with him! The director's here too. Surely, you wouldn't refuse something as simple as basic first aid, right?"

The moment she got close, I noticed that her skin looked far more aged than before. She was only in her 30s, but her hands already resembled those of someone in their 60s.

It wasn't that I refused to do it. There were plenty of male doctors around my age who could have volunteered. Yet, she had deliberately pushed forward a half-disabled, unkempt old guard. Anyone could see she was doing it on purpose.

I turned to Elliot. "Are you sure?"

Elliot looked away, completely detached. "Just get on with it. Stop dragging your feet. You're being ridiculous. You're a doctor. Gender and age mean nothing in the face of an emergency."

I didn't argue further.

Instead, I bent down and performed the CPR procedure professionally. When I finished, the room broke into applause.

As I returned to my seat, Elliot shot me a strange look. His face twisted in scorn. "He reeked of old people. I can't believe you managed to kiss him. Doesn't that disgust you?"

Diana burst into laughter. "Oh, please, Amber's used to taking care of those elderly patients who can't even look after themselves. This is nothing for her."

I remained impassive to their barbs. Then, I promptly raised my hand and addressed the instructor.

"Aside from first aid, I think it's also important to educate people about mental health—for example, adult attachment disorder.

"My husband happens to suffer from it, and it's always my sister-in-law, Diana, who treats him. Why not have them demonstrate it for us?"

I deliberately stressed the words "husband" and "sister-in-law." The doctors who were close to me immediately caught on.

"I've never seen a case like that before. You're right. We should broaden our horizons."

"I'll record it for science!"

Elliot and Diana's expressions shifted between grim and angry.

Diana bit her lip. "Amber! That's a specialized treatment method between Elliot and me. It might not work for others. And besides… There are so many people watching!"

I smiled innocently. "It's just treatment, is it not? Why are you worried people are watching? Diana, I know you're shy, but it's fine. I've recorded your treatment process."

The on-call room was a shared space.

Thus, every room had surveillance cameras to prevent instances of theft. Whatever Elliot and Diana had done the night before had been captured on 4K.

I wasted no time playing the footage on the big screen.

Diana's breathy moans echoed through the conference room. Her clothes were barely hanging on her frame.

She was clinging to Elliot with flushed cheeks, while Elliot panted, "Diana… you're the only one who's willing to play along. You're nothing like Amber. She's so stiff and boring, fucking her is like fucking a block of wood."

Diana was being burned alive, her skin turning black bit by bit. Her shrill, agonized screams filled the room, piercing my ears. "Elliot! You said you'd love me forever! You stopped loving me because I turned into this? I told you! I told you I'll cling to you forever! "If I'm going to hell, then you're coming with me! We'll be together for lifetimes to come!"Diana suddenly surged with strength, grabbed the knife, and drove it viciously into Elliot's neck.I couldn't make sense of what was happening. Even the system seemed stunned by the twist.I asked again about Elliot's Remorse Index. It was still at 99%.I just had that last sliver left.I didn't leave the room. Instead, I watched as the two of them tore into each other like rabid dogs. However, Diana eventually lost. Her body burned away completely, until nothing remained. There was not even a trace of her left.Elliot was barely alive. He couldn't even stand upright as he dragged himself across the floor, crawling tow

Only after divorcing Amber did Elliot realize just how badly his life had fallen apart without her. His career, his daily routine… she had once managed everything. His life had all descended into chaos now that she had left him.He had done some reflecting after being fired from the hospital. It wasn't entirely Amber's fault for reporting him. It was Diana. She had coaxed him into covering for her, leaving a permanent stain on his record. If Amber would just admit that she still cared about him, he might not be opposed to getting back together. He stared intently at Amber, waiting for her answer.Sadly for him, my voice was cold. I didn't hesitate for even a second to say plainly, "Of course it was for revenge." I continued, without the slightest hint of shame, "You cheated with your own sister-in-law and even carried on openly at the hospital. I became a laughingstock because of you. Of course, I had to teach you both a lesson."Elliot's entire body stiffened, and the hope in h

Unfortunately, their kind words wouldn't change my decision, no matter how reluctant I was to part with them.I asked the system about Elliot's current Remorse Index after settling everything."85%," it replied.Only a five percent increase? It seemed his job as a doctor didn't matter to him as much as I'd thought. So, what did matter most to Elliot?I thought about it for a long time. Just as I was about to find him and push his buttons, he showed up at my door.Elliot came to my house, completely ignoring my previous warning to never darken my doorstep. He looked utterly defeated, as if he'd already lost the will to live. "You reported me, didn't you? Amber, I used to think you were kind, gentle, and reasonable. How did you turn into someone so petty and jealous?"Do you even know that being a doctor was my lifelong dream? You were the one who brought me into the hospital. So why are you the one destroying my dream with your own hands?"His words grated on my nerves. "I des

I wasn't the least bit worried.I had told Elliot the truth the day I married him. I told him that I came from another world, and my mission was to win him over. I'd even made it clear that I could leave at any time if he ever treated me badly. At the time, he had laughed it off like a joke, thinking I was just trying to scare him. He hadn't believed a single word I'd said.I had never hidden anything from him during our marriage. Naturally, I had no reason to fear him knowing any of my secrets. When I first arrived in this world, I had pitied what Elliot had been through. I taught him how to love. I even gave up my chance to return home for his sake. But now, I was tired of this life. The thought of spending the rest of my days entangled with a madman was the last thing I wanted."System, I remember you said that I have one chance to take it all back, that I could return to my world whenever I want.""That's right. Have you changed your mind?" the system asked."I have," I

I knew that Elliot was scared out of his d*mned mind the second he Elliot dropped to his knees, wailing and begging me to help him."Of course, I believe you," I said flatly. "Diana really did turn into your mom. Shouldn't you be happy? Now your AAD might finally be cured."Elliot's mouth twitched. He knew that I was the only person left who could help him. He even tried to hug me just to get me on his side and drive Diana away together. "Amber, stop saying things like that out of anger. "We're husband and wife. We're supposed to face such hardships together! Let's figure out a way to get Diana out of here together. "I don't care how she turned into my mom, and I don't want to know. I just want her gone. I want her out of my life for good!"He had barely finished speaking when Diana burst into my house, wailing like a banshee as she lunged at him. "Elliot, it's me, Diana! How could you just abandon me and run off like that?! You said you'd love me for the rest of your life!"El

The police arrived quickly after receiving the report and pushed their way into the on-call room, which had already been surrounded by a crowd."What happened? You called the police, but couldn't even explain yourself. Stop stuttering and start making sense!"Elliot stood outside the door, staring blankly at Diana. How had she turned into his deceased mother? That aged face, the sagging body, even the little finger crushed by machinery… every physical detail matched perfectly. He could hardly believe it.'Who exactly was the person I'd been intimate with all this time?'The revelation only made Elliot increasingly terrified. He grabbed onto a police officer and broke down crying. "Officer, you have to save me! My sister-in-law suddenly turned into my mom!"The officer looked at him as if he'd lost his mind, not understanding a word. He shoved him aside and turned to Diana—only for her to meet their gaze and let out a piercing scream. "How did I become like this?! Officer, I didn'
