Chapter 6: Saving a Friend!

The next morning, Jamie woke up and did as the old woman asked. She looked into the embers of the fire and saw a bead the size of a large marble. It was completely black, but when held up to the light, intricate spirals of oranges, yellows, purples, and reds could be seen. There were also two holes going through the middle, so a string or chain could be put on it.

Jamie was not a big jewellery fan, but she had a leather neckless with a small wooden heart on it. It was a gift from her father on her 10th birthday. She quickly untied the leather knot and threaded the black stone and put the whole thing back under her top. Jamie packed up camp and carried on walking. The next four days passed without any incidents. The only strange thing was that Jamie kept having the same weird dream where the old woman was shouting at a very tall ebony man.

Jamie could not make out the conversation, except the part from the old woman who shouted, "I don’t give a shit what you say, brother, I broke no rules!"  Jamie chuckled at the thought. She would not want to be that Old Crone’s brother!

Jamie suddenly heard a thud and a couple of men laughing. "You have almost hit it there, Tommy. Try again!" A male voice said.

Jamie walked closer, wanting to know what was making them so happy. She saw two men throwing stones at what she thought at first was a small black stone. However, the small black stone meowed pitifully. Tommy chucked another stone and it landed only a small distance away from the defenceless cat. Rage welled up inside of Jamie at such a callous action.  "Oi, you fucking twats! Stop that!" Jamie demanded sternly.

The two men turned to where the voice had come from. They laughed, and Tommy said, "Move along girl, this has nothing to do with you!"

"What has that kitten ever done to you?" demanded Jamie.

"Nothing, but we are bored! So, fuck off and suck you Pa, you ginger freak! " The other boy said.

Jamie should have just left. There was no way she could take these two on! However, something was drawing her towards the kitten. It was so helpless and innocent! There was no way it deserved the fate of being stoned to death! Jamie suddenly ran towards the kitten and picked it up, before dashing into the forest. Jamie may not be able to fight them, but she is confident she can outrun them!

"Stop you fucking bitch! " Tommy shouted after her.

"Leave it, Tommy, it is not worth bothering over! " The other boy said dismissively.

Jamie ran for about half a mile and stopped. She was certain the boys were not following her.  "Lazy Sods," she thought as she sat on a nearby log and inspected what she rescued. A small kitten, Jamie guessed, was about 12 weeks old and was completely black. The kitten’s hair was long and silky. "What strange eyes you have !" Jamie mused.

The kitten’s eyes were bright green, almost supernatural in colour. After inspecting the little kitten, she found out it was a male. "Hmmm, what should I call you? Oh I know I shall call you Fluff, because you remind me of a fluff ball! " Jamie said triumphantly. She was happy that she was not completely alone anymore!

Realm of the Gods of Light

"Fluff! She... called your child, Fluff! " Anubis, the God of Dogs, howled with laughter.  "I have not laughed so much in over a century!" Anubis said as he rolled on his back and continued laughing, as tears ran down the large dog’s face. All the gods and goddesses were laughing. Some were trying to hold it in, but they were quite unsuccessful.

"This is your fault!" Hissed Bastet at Ovinnik.

"How in all the Realms of Chaos and Light is this my fault?? The Princess hath given him the name! " Ovinnik exclaimed.

The Mother of all Cats did not look impressed. Her eyes narrowed at the laughing gods. "At least my child is in place, unlike the rest of you!" Bastet growled.

The laughing stopped and all the gods looked nervously at the marmalade Queen. There was a reason why Ovinnik was submissive to his Mate. The reason was Bastet's very sharp, sliver, two-inch claws! These claws could do some serious damage. Gods could heal, but they could still feel the pain inflicted by the Queen. One of the servants who had dared pick Bastet up had been blinded for 3 days.

"Calm my friends!" The Moon Goddess gently said. "As soon as ...as Fluff...I mean Night-Song is old enough to form a mind link, he will reveal his true name. I, for one, am happy your child is first, as cats are cunning and wise. My daughter will have a valuable friend!" The Moon Goddess said this with a wide smile. It was high praise from the Queen of all the Gods!

Bastet looked happy at this comment and teleported herself over to the Moon Goddess. She started rubbing along the Moon Goddess’s legs and started purring loudly. A privilege reserved only for the Moon Goddess.

Adonis (The Sun God), internally sighed. He thanked Father Light and Mother Universe for announcing an inter-God blood bath.He did not need this right now! His Mate was right; cats make good friends and protectors. They see things other animals don’t and don’t pay attention to the rules. His brother, the God of the Dead, was constantly trying to get rid of Ovinnik and Basset’s children. He had not managed it yet, though! Adonis was sure the Crone Goddess had something to do with it, but he tried to keep out of all God’s business.

"Where is Richard?" Adonis suddenly asked as he quickly tried to sense him.

"You know where he is, love. He is checking the Star Light Barrier. I don’t know how much longer we can keep him away from her!" The Moon Goddes  explained.

"Hmmm!" Adonis replied, feeling sorry for Richard.

Adonis knew that Father Light and Mother Universe loved Chaos and Light beings equally. He was aware that his parents had bestowed upon some gods predestined Mates. Once the mate bond formed, there was nothing anyone could do. Only the High Gods had a choice and could reject their Mate. It was strange that his daughter had not rejected Richard. In fact, she removed her protective runes and ran away with the hybrid demon.

They were captured in the Elemental Forest where they had built a cottage. A simple life without any riches or luxuries, just love. They were happy by all accounts until his sister, the Empress of Chaos, caught them. He knew Richard had been sleeping with his sister, and his sister was not known to share. How Richard made it through the punishment, only his parents knew. Testing the barrier would take at least three mortal years. Richard was obviously trying to keep busy and he could not blame him for that. His bond might have been slightly broken, but he could still feel his Mate.

"Keep an eye on him, and I want a full report when he returns. Oh, and Ovinnik?" Adonis said.

"Yes, my King?"Ovinnik asked.

"I am glad Fluff is there too!" Adonis said with a smirk.
