Chapter 2

Author: Peachy
Once inside, I rushed to the bathroom, stripped off my wet jacket, and blew my hair dry.

When I came back out to the living room, Lucas was sitting on the sofa, holding a cup of coffee.

He was in clean clothes, his hair neatly combed.

There wasn't a trace of drunkenness left on him.

He looked up at me, his expression calm.

"I thought you were drunk."

"I had a few drinks, but I wasn't drunk." Lucas set down his coffee cup, looking tired. "Sophie, about tonight..."

I sat down across from him, waiting for his explanation.

"Willow just got back from Europe. She's… emotionally unstable," Lucas said, rubbing his temples. "Her family ran into some trouble over there. She's very fragile right now."

"And?"

"And so I had to comfort her." Lucas's tone was matter-of-fact. "Sophie, you have to understand, pack politics are complicated. Willow's family is important to us. I can't have her feeling neglected."

"And the things you said? About the temporary mark, about purebloods…"

Lucas sighed. "That was just talk, Sophie. To put her at ease. It's a pureblood matter. You wouldn't understand."

His explanation sounded perfectly reasonable, just like it had countless times over the past three years.

"I understand," I said with a nod.

Lucas let out a breath of relief. "I knew you would. How are the preparations for the marking ceremony next week coming along?"

"Everything's ready."

"Good." He stood up. "I'm going to take a shower. I have a meeting tomorrow."

After Lucas left, I was alone in the living room.

I sat on the sofa, staring at his coffee cup on the table.

The cup was still warm, but my heart felt like ice.

I pulled out my phone and found the contact for Robert, the head of my design firm.

I remembered him mentioning last month that their Seattle branch needed people and asked if I was interested.

I'd turned him down then, because I thought Lucas and I were going to be permanently bonded.

Now, it seemed like it was time to reconsider.

「Hi Robert. About that position in the Seattle office, I was hoping to learn more about it.」

I typed slowly, weighing each word.

Sent.

A few minutes later, Robert replied: 「Sophia? You changed your mind? That's great! Seattle is desperate for experienced designers. The pay is even better than here. When can you start?」

I stared at the screen, my finger hovering over the keyboard.

Upstairs, I could hear the shower running. Everything seemed so normal, so peaceful.

But I knew everything had changed.

I got up, went to the bedroom, and started to think back on the last three years.

The exquisite choker he gave me for my birthday.

He'd told me it was just a decoration, but I later found out its true purpose: to muffle my Omega scent.

The clothes he picked out for me—conservative suits and long, concealing dresses.

He said he liked me in professional attire, but now I saw the truth—it was all to hide the curve of my hips, the swell of my chest, every sign of the Omega he was ashamed of.

The custom perfume he said he had made for me.

Its custom blend contained ingredients I now recognized as scent-masking agents.

It wasn't designed to complement me; it was designed to erase me.

And all those pack gatherings where he always had me leave early, saying he didn't want me to get tired.

The conversations with other Alphas, where he always told me to stay quiet, saying it was to protect me.

The talks about our future, where he was always vague, saying the time wasn't right.

The truth was simple and undeniable: He was ashamed that his mate was a half-blood Omega.

I was his dirty little secret, a temporary replacement for when Willow wasn't around.

For three years, I had been lying to myself.

I thought he truly loved me, that he would challenge tradition for my sake.

But in reality, he just needed a docile Omega to satisfy his physical needs while he waited for his pureblood first love to return.

Now, Willow was back.

And it was time for me to make my exit.

I picked up my phone again and replied to Robert.

「If possible, I'd like to transfer as soon as possible. Could it be arranged this week?」

After sending the message, I felt a weight lift off my shoulders.

The shower upstairs stopped. Lucas would be down soon.

I pretended nothing had happened and went back to watching TV on the sofa.

「Sophia, that's fantastic! I'll get the paperwork started right away. The transfer could be official as early as tomorrow.」 Robert's reply came quickly.

I looked at the words on the screen, feeling a sense of calm I hadn't felt in years.

「Okay, thank you.」

Lucas came downstairs, his hair still damp.

"Still up?" He sat down next to me. "What are you watching?"

"Nothing special." I turned off my phone. "Lucas, I'm a little tired. I'm going to head up to bed."

"Alright. I'll stay up for a bit."

As I walked past him to go upstairs, I caught the lingering scent of Willow on him.

A faint jasmine mixed with his own cedarwood scent.

It was harmonious.

A perfect match.

A much better match than my lily-of-the-valley scent.

Back in the bedroom, I closed the door and slowly slid to the floor, my back against the wood.

The tears wouldn't come. I felt nothing but a cold, hollow ache where my heart used to be.

My heart was a stone.

You can’t bleed from a stone.

  • His Rejected Half-Blood Mate   Chapter 12

Lucas's POVI sat in the coffee shop, watching her walk away, hand in hand with that man.Sophie's smile was radiant, a kind of pure joy I had never seen on her face before. When she looked at that Alpha, there was a light in her eyes. When she looked at me, there was only calm detachment.I knew who the man was—Jason Miller, the Alpha of a small pack in Seattle. Gentle, chivalrous, with no prominent bloodline, but highly respected. Most importantly, when he looked at Sophie, his eyes held only adoration, not possession. My wolf was roaring in my chest, wanting to storm out of here and drag my Omega back. But I didn't move.Because I knew she wasn't mine anymore. She never had been. The server came to clear the table and, seeing me sitting there motionless, asked with concern, "Sir, can I get you anything else?""Another coffee," I said, my voice hoarse."Of course." The server paused. "Sir, are you alright? You look very pale."I shook my head, not answering. When the coffee arrived,

One Year Later. The verdict from the pack tribunal was final.Willow Black was sentenced to twenty years of scent-blocking, and the Alpha she hired was exiled from all pack territories. The day the truth came out, I was in a coffee shop in Seattle when I received a message from Lucas.「Sophie, can we meet? There are some things I need to say to you.」I hesitated for a long time but finally agreed. This would probably be the last time we ever saw each other.Lucas was much thinner than he had been a year ago. A prominent scar marked his left shoulder, a permanent reminder of the night he saved me.He was wearing a simple black sweater, all his former arrogance and swagger gone."Thank you for agreeing to see me." He sat down across from me, his voice quiet."You're welcome." I ordered a latte. "What did you want to say?"Lucas was silent for a few seconds, then looked me straight in the eye."Why I was in the park that night.""You said you were protecting me in secret.""It was more th

A month of peace made me think Lucas had finally given up.There were no more gifts at my door, no sign of him outside my studio.I was starting to get used to a life without being watched. But that peace was shattered on the night of the full moon.I was working late that night, putting the final touches on an urgent project. It was nearly midnight when I left the office building. The streets were empty, cast in the dim, yellow glow of the streetlights.I decided to take the shortcut home through the park. The moon was full and bright, illuminating the entire park.Halfway through, I caught a strange Alpha scent. It was strong, thick with hostility and excitement.I stopped and looked around. There was only the sound of the wind rustling through the leaves."Is anyone there?" I asked tentatively. No answer. But the Alpha scent was getting stronger.Realizing something was wrong, I started to walk faster.Suddenly, a huge, dark shadow leaped out from the bushes, lunging straight at me.

Lucas's howl echoed through the night, filled with pain and desperation.Charlie and I stood there until the sound faded completely."Thank you," I said, turning to Charlie. "What you said just now...""Just the truth." Charlie shrugged. "Sophia, someone who truly loves you wouldn't try to control you."He took out a handkerchief and gently dabbed at the blood on my cheek. His movements were gentle and careful, completely devoid of any possessiveness."Do you need to go to the hospital?""No, it's just a surface wound." I shook my head. "Charlie, your words made him completely break down.""That's a truth he needed to face," Charlie said, putting the handkerchief away. "Sophia, you deserve better."Back in my apartment, I took a shower and changed into my pajamas. The cut on my face had stopped bleeding, but it still throbbed.I had just lain down when my phone buzzed.A text. From Lucas: 「Sophie, give me one chance to rebuild our scent bond. I know I was wrong.」I stared at the screen

The next afternoon, as I was walking up to my apartment building, I saw a familiar figure.Willow Black was leaning against my car, wearing a white dress, looking every bit the damsel in distress. But the malice in her eyes gave her away."Sophia Grey." She pushed off the car and walked towards me. "We need to talk.""We have nothing to talk about." I tried to walk around her and head for the building entrance."Oh, yes we do." Willow blocked my path. "What did you say to Lucas last night?""The truth.""What truth?" Her voice turned shrill. "Did you tell him I was provoking you?""Weren't you?"The color drained from Willow's face. "You bitch!"She suddenly released an aggressive scent, her potent jasmine fragrance laced with obvious hostility, trying to overwhelm me.This was a fight between Omegas, more direct and vicious than an Alpha's show of dominance. But to her surprise, I didn't back down.I released my own scent. The light fragrance of lily-of-the-valley, crisp and steady, m

A month later, life in Seattle had settled into a comfortable rhythm. My design project received rave reviews from the client, and Charlie had become a good friend. He would often bring me coffee when I worked late and sometimes we'd go to art exhibits or music festivals on the weekends. There was no Alpha possessiveness, no prejudice about bloodlines. Just simple friendship.Tonight was the design team's monthly dinner.Everyone had chosen a fantastic Italian restaurant. Red wine, pasta, and a relaxed, cheerful atmosphere.I hadn't been this happy in a long time."To Sophie's successful project! Cheers!" my colleagues said, raising their glasses.I was a bit of a lightweight, and a warm flush spread across my cheeks. It was late by the time dinner ended, and Charlie offered to take me home."You've had a bit too much to drink," he said, steadying my arm. "I'll call an Uber."We were waiting outside the restaurant when I pulled out my phone and snapped a picture of us together."Had a
