LOGINI woke up with a loud scream, loud enough to block my ears, breathing so heavily and painting at the same time with sweat all over my body. My hands trembled and clutched the bedsheets like they were the only things keeping me from falling apart.
Leo, my son, I said in my mind.
I looked around the room, uncertain of what I was looking for. Then the moonlight started shining, coming in through the window.
I came down from the bed and walked toward the window. Everywhere seemed calm and quiet—there was no smoke, no fog, and most importantly, no cloaked figure holding my child.
I took a deep breath, realizing it was just a mere dream.
A nightmare that had felt so real.
My chest rose and fell rapidly as I forced myself to breathe. I touched my stomach as I was trying to reassure myself that he was still safe, still hidden far away with Mariya.
"Evan will never have my son, "I whispered again, but this time, because of the dream.
A few hours later I heard a knock at the door.
"Lady Lila," a servant's voice said from behind the door, soft yet firm, "His Majesty has summoned you to the Gathering Grounds. Your ceremonial garments have been prepared, and I came to inform you to come down for preparation.
I opened the door for her, and she came in to get me ready.
Inside the adjoining room, a silver chest sat open, revealing a dress unlike anything I had ever worn. It shimmered in the moonlight, made of silver fabric that looked like a woven star. Its color was blue, a soft blue like that of a rising dawn, adorned with white and decorated with silver lining.
As the servants dressed me, I stared into the mirror, trying to recognize the woman reflected there. My once dull brown hair now shimmered with silvery streaks. My eyes glowed brighter than before, and it was as if the Moon itself had awakened something deep in me.
The Omega who had fled this place in shame no longer existed. This is now a new me, Lila of Lycan, the heiress.
When I stepped out, the hall outside the palace buzzed with tension. Guards followed me on both sides, and in silence, they escorted me down through the winding corridors until we stepped into the pack gathering.
The sky was clear, a sign of the full moon.
Hundreds of wolves and humans alike gathered in the central arena with lots of them with banners waving high in the wind. Elders stood at the front, warriors lined the sides, and the Lycan King stood above them adorned in ceremonial robes.
When I entered, there was a wave of silence among the pack gathering.
It felt like the air itself held its breath to welcome me.
Some of the wolves murmured to themselves as I passed.
"Is that her?"
"She’s not the same again, she has changed.
"She looks so different now".
I kept my head high and walked in steady steps. If they are going to watch, then let them watch fully. Let them see what happens when a girl they cast away in shame returns with purpose burning in her blood.
The King smiled as I ascended the steps. "Lila of Luna, reborn and fierce, welcome to the Gathering."
I just nodded, refusing to bow, already irritated by his presence.
"Tonight," he continued, his voice echoing, "we unite bloodlines once fractured." The Blood Pact demands balance, and power must meet power."
At his signal, Evan stepped forward.
My heart skipped when I saw him.
He wore dark ceremonial robes, lined in deep silver and onyx. His raven hair was neatly laid back, and his eyes, those same forest-green eyes I once loved, were looking directly at mine.
He didn’t speak, not immediately. But he kept staring at me.
He looked at me like I was a stranger he couldn’t stop staring at.
"You’ve changed," he said under his breath when he got to where I was standing.
I kept my head high, I had to, there was a need for that, and I think I have done a perfect job.
He was quiet for some moments. "Lila, about what happened before—"
"Don’t," I cut in sharply. "We are doing what we must do, remember? This seems like survival to me, and nothing more."
He took a step closer, but I refused to back down.
"I never forgot you," he whispered. "Even when I tried."
My chest tightened. I hated that part of me wanted to believe him.
"Whatever feelings you buried, keep them there. "This marriage is just for the crown and not us."
The King interrupted us when he clapped his hands, and the ceremonial fire ignited in the center of the arena.
"Step forward," he ordered. "Let the packs witness the reuniting of the Moon and the Fang."
Evan extended his hand. I hesitated before taking it. His skin was warm—too warm that my mark and the crescent moon mark stirred up.
Soon the ceremony fully began.
Chants filled the air. The packs recited the sacred verses. Old laws, older than any of us, spoken in ancient tongues filled the air. The fire roared, swirling with wind and magic.
As Evan and I stood shoulder to shoulder, something flickered in the flames.
A flash of a face—like that of a child.
Leo.
I almost fainted, but Evan caught me.
"Lila?"
"I'm fine," I said quickly, pulling away from his grip.
But I wasn’t. My instincts never failed, and I knew something was definitely wrong.
The King stepped forward with a dagger etched in runes. "The binding requires blood. A drop from each of you."
He sliced Evan’s palm first, and then mine.
When our blood met over the fire, the flames exploded into the air.
Then came a loud shout among the pack gathering, almost like that of a victory over a battle.
There was silence for some moments before the King spoke up.
"It is done," he said. "The bond begins, and everyone is now free."
My heart still thundered—not from the bond, but from something else.
I definitely knew that something was wrong.
Just immediately, a howl broke through one of the gates with some heavily panting scouts rushing in.
The King turned with narrowed eyes, motioning the scout to come forward.
"My King... there’s been an attack," he said. "The village at the southern border is burning."
The breath caught. No, it can't be true, I screamed to my inner self.
The King gave them an order, and all the warriors gathered. Within minutes, the gathering became very chaotic.
Evan grabbed my arm. "Stay here."
"You have no right to tell me what to do!" I screamed at him.
I turned to the King. "Where exactly was the attack?"
He frowned. "Why?"
"Because I know someone there, and I need to know if they are safe."
He stared at me for a long time, then nodded. "North of the Dusk Ridge."
My knees buckled.
That was exactly where Mariya and Leo were hiding.
Evan caught me again, this time steadying me with both hands. "Lila, what is it? Who’s there?"
My lips parted to answer.
Then a wolf leaped into the arena, bloodied and panting.
"We found something... actually someone," he gasped. "A baby wrapped in a Moonveil cloth—and it looked like he was abandoned."
My eyes became blunt, and everything went dark.
The scout held up a small blue cloth, stained with ash.
I recognized it instantly.
It was Leo's blanket.
Immediately the world became blank and meaningless.
And then I collapsed.
Lila’s POVI blamed myself. I should’ve been more careful.I shouldn’t have let those trollocs get the better of me.I should’ve protected Leo.After the battle, everyone regrouped. Many injured and a few missing.Amidst the chaos from before, everyone’s strategies had been upended, leaving only one task in their minds: SURVIVE.Yet somehow we had succeeded in fighting off the trollocs.I had been knocked out for a brief period, and when I came to, too many tasks took over. I pushed them all away and delegated in order to check on Leo.But no matter how hard I searched, I couldn’t find my son. And it was then, I had that sinking feeling in my gut.I had lost him.I glared at Clarissa, watching her spew forth words meant to enrage me.And it was working.Venom I had never felt before burned inside me, a desire to rip out the tongue of this woman and make her pay for those words. When she said the last thing, bringing Evan into it again, I lost my composure. My knees buckled and I saw
Carissa’s POVI did my best to hold back my fear at possibly being found out.The person moved like a shadow, swift and unrelenting.A mask was placed over his face, and I couldn’t identify who he was.I growled and charged at him, sneering, “Who are you?”He dodged nimbly, and I nearly fell, bracing my arms against a tree.“Your greatest nightmare.” He spoke, cool and collected.Suddenly hands grabbed my neck and I heard howls all around. No! This couldn’t be happening.I struggled, trying to shift into my wolf form. However it was impossible, every single breath i took was stifling, making my chest heave and stomach hurt. Why was this happening?“You’ll tell me what I need to know,” the shadowed voice said, and I was forced to my knees roughly. I let out a deep gasp, eyes wide in terror. My wolf was silent, my head hurting and my insides burning with feverish tremors.“What’s this? What did you do to me?” I demanded, choking out the words.Around me, I heard sounds of fighting, but
Carissa's POV ~~~~War?I heart raced when I got to hear that word, at this point I was convinced that Lila just wanted to have me dead but doesn't want to do it herself.I packed up the things that I'll need to flee if need be, during the journey my eyes kept moving around looking for a better place to escape once I get a bad sign."Do you really think that she was going to love you after telling her what you found out?" I scoffed..."What am I supposed to do? I am not doing anything to please her, I am just doing what is right!" Our voices were so low so she didn't.Even when I knew that she must have heard. "You should have taken a small army with you and tried to get back the pack. With that, you will gain more respect and not be that lunatic." He grabbed my hands and twisted them so hard. "You will not tell me how I decide to lead the pack. And don't you for once think you know anything about her." He said in-between his teeth, while holding himself from shouting.Lila fell be
Lila's POV~~~~~ Evan didn't have to repeat himself before he got the recognition he needed. "The warriors should be in front, the rest of us would come from behind." I instructed when I noticed that everyone was ready to get the fuck out of this place."Mommy, am I going to fight too?" Leo was right beside me.My heart broke when I heard his voice. A “no” would be too harsh and a “yes” is like a death sentence. I just want my boy to be fine, they can do whatever they want but I just want Leo to be safe.“I would not advise you to let him go.” The healer whispered in my ears.“Son…” “Mom, don't tell me no. You haven't ever let me show my real fighting skills, I will just have to stay there and watch you and dad fight while I just imagine. You never let me do anything!” He folded his arms and walked away.Fury had taken over and didn't give me the time to rethink what he just said.“You are going to stay indoors and stay clear of the battlefield until this is over .” I roared and l
Evan's POV ~~~~ Lila healed faster than I have seen before. We were happy she was able to heal fast, but a part of me still felt it was awkward to happen."You called off my attention." The secret spies I sent to check on our land came back. They had so much information, now they are fragile unlike the rest that I would have swung out in a twinkle of an eye."What information do you have?" I stood quietly, my head raised as I listened carefully to them"They attempt to invade the pack, if we don't stop them now we are going to be their slaves." They reported. That son of a bitch and whoever bitch he is with, how dare him think that he can just come up with stupid plans."Go and say this to no one." I ordered,It was information that was fragile and only I will be the one to tell the elders. They went about their day like nothing happened, while I fought trying to hold myself from speaking to anyone about it.An hour later Lila finally called a meeting."I hope this gets better becau
Storm's POV ~~~~~ "Why did you lose focus on her?" I wrecked on one of my workers.I lost that girl and now no one can lure her in for me. Evan Thornhart or his stupid father just keep getting on my nerves.I will not sit and watch them come for us the second time. “Sir, the Moonveil park is free, but I think we found some spies there.” One of my men came to report.“I want you to stop thinking and give me exact details. I don't want you to keep assuming.” I was furious whenever I got the report and it's always an assumption."You should attack them if you think they are spies, why are you telling me about it? I should be hearing that they are dead." I snapped."I will take care of that immediately and give you the report." He quickly left the room..Ariel walked in. Her curves and the walk she swayed her hips made me forget how angry I was seconds ago. "Oh my Ariel, I have waited so long for you to be here, these people are stressing me out and I really needed someone to relieve m
Clarissa's POVMy hands were tied to my back and I have been hung on an X–cross for days.My lips were turning pale, my throat was dry and I was like a dying man just seeking for a drop of water. The door banged and a group of men walked in. They looked like burnt humans that managed to escape the
Lila's POV "Can you hear us?" I heard words faintly...Slowly I opened my eyes and found Evan standing beside me. I felt comfortable until I remembered what happened."Where is my son?" I jumped out of the bed."Calm down Lila, you need to calm down. You are badly injured and you need to get heale
I wasn't leaving my son's sight, I just wanted to stare at him and make sure that he is fine.“If you can take her out of here, it will be better for her son.” The healer said to the elders. One of them attempted to touch me, I gave him a fierce look and he stepped back.“Please listen to him, at t
One of the elders could come in and stop him from screaming."What happened?" My ears were still ringing faintly."We will have to take him to the native healer. So we will know what is wrong with him." Evan rushed over to me. "Are you okay?" "Let go of me, I don't know what happened to my son an
