For the past three days, Peter had actively visited villages and farms situated around Longcron. He bought food and ingredients from farms to secure highly nutritious meals for his daughter and the child she carried in her womb. The day after he returned from Longcron, he also searched the foothills of the mountains for a cave. It took him half a day to find one which could offer not only excellent protection from the weather but also cover the fire, which he needed for Daria to cook food. Ariana barely stands on her two wobbly legs with the support of her mother, wrapping her arm around her mother’s shoulder. Daria kissed her husband before she let him leave. Before he left, Peter covered their scent, leaving them near Longcron, heading himself deep into the city. To protect his family, he must lure whoever is waiting for them there and get them out. Once done, Daria can sneak inside with their daughter and get her to the passage before they find out he is just a decoy.“Take care.” Daria whispered into the wind, letting those silent words catch up with the shadow of her husband. “Sir, there has been a movement of troops close to our borders.” David went to report to the king. Daniel sits behind the desk, going through the mountain of papers lying on his table for the past few days. He spent his time riding a horse, hunting and walking through the town, speaking with his people instead of dealing with political matters. “Which borders?” He asks, but even without David answering the question, Daniel knows exactly which border has the unwelcome activity. The east border which he shares with Allus Sierra is the only one they are watching for any kind of movements.“Close to Heyward, sir,” David replies, earning the full attention of his king. Ariana slept through the entire day. After nearly three weeks, she finally rested her head on a fluffy pillow, cuddled by the warm blanket, curled on a soft bed. The best sleep she had over the past weeks.“Sweetheart.” The gentle voice of her mother woke her up. Two days ago, they crossed the mountains. The last thing Ariana remembered was the heartrending wolf’s cry followed by a raging Lycan howling. Her thoughts went to the only two men she kept in her thoughts. Peter scanned the entire area around the town, standing tall on the east wall of Hayward. At one moment, he thought he saw a movement down in the woods, but a second later, he found nothing but a shadow among the moving trees. Peter knows Marcus won’t leave them alone, not even in this foreign country. No father would leave his child willingly. In his case, the urge to protect his heir is much stronger than Peter’s sense of responsibility towards his own baby girl. Peter had no doubts about it.“Is he down there?” Ariana talks to her father, startling him. She shouldn’t be out here. “Please, allow me to introduce myself.” The tall guy spoke even before they sat around the table inside the tavern. Before they entered, a tall guy sent his guards to empty the area so they could talk in private.“My name is Trenton Hildebrant. Major General of Edeirland’s army and loyal subject of His Highness, Daniel Colton. Thanks to you, sir.” Trenton emphasized the last part of his introduction, fueling the further confusion written all over Peter’s face. He didn’t understand what Trenton was talking about.“I don’t think I need to introduce my family. “What about my baby?” Ariana jumped into the conversation, worried about the safety of her unborn child. It was easy for them to say they would use the child, but use it in what manner? Are they planning to take the child to the battle and present it in front of everyone like the highest trophy, hoping it will send Marcus to his knees? Ariana couldn’t even imagine her baby being away from her.“No harm will come to the baby. I can guarantee that.” Trenton tries to assure her, but Ariana’s gaze tells him his words did not n’t convince her.“How can you guarantee that? Do you know exactly what your king is planning to do? She knew little about the military ranks of her country to begin with, but in her eyes, not one had enough power to tell the king what to do, or assure their safety if the king decided to threaten their lives. It was a pitching dark night when they finally left the tunnels and climbed back above the surface. Trenton instantly ordered his warriors to build a temporary shelter. Behind them, in the darkness, Peter didn’t see any lights from the city. There was nothing except the surrounding wild.“Where are we exactly?” Peter wanted to know their location, so he could pinpoint where they were. Trenton looks around, not fully sure where exactly they are. It was the first time for him using tunnels as well.It is difficult to pin an exact position in this darkness. There were no villages around here with at least some slight lights, helping him to realize where exactly they were. The point of those tunnels is to assure the safety of their people. Each entrance is located in the middle of nowhere, so there shouldn’t be any reason for enemy soldiers to be there when the civilians get out.
