/Axel’s POV/
At the bright smile curving on her face, something snapped inside me, and I let go of her hand. What was wrong with me? Jade told me to stay away from her. The witch had yet to find a plausible explanation as to why my chest felt like it was on fire every time we were in close proximity.
Taking a step back, I awkwardly cleared my throat, trying not to focus on the disappointment look on her face. “Uhh…I need to go. See you later, Princess Lana.”
“Alpha Axel.” She murmured lowly, biting the insides of her cheeks, eyes sharp and piercing, while she managed a nod in my direction before turning on her feet. I let out a sigh, watching the omega walk away with her head held high.

As the chill blasted inside, my toes curled, a shiver running down my spine. Tilting my head, I peeked at the closed window, mouth twisting. What was the sudden change in temperature? The day I dreaded the most—our reception ceremony arrived, and I couldn’t be more jittery if possible. It’s probably the nerves; I thought that morning. My food remained untouched in front of me, what felt like rocks sitting heavy in the pit of my belly, preventing me from doing more than nibbling a thing or two. To deviate from the apparent tension in my body, I leaned and started flipping through newspaper lying on the coffee table.
