Julian’s pov

Just as I was done with the meeting that I had with the investors, I looked around and noticed they were all still staring at me.

“What?” I asked as they shook their heads, but I wasn't buying it. “Just tell me what the issue is and I will try my best to not get mad. I promise.”

They still didn't buy it but I didn't care. I shrugged, “if no one says anything, how am I going to help you with what you need?”

They exchanged glances before the leader of the board got up. He was in his early fifties. I had hired him because of his experience in the workforce.

“So we were thinking of having a gala or at least going for one where some of our workers can merge with other businesses and at least get an idea of how the camaraderie works.”

He had made a great sense and it wasn't as stupid as I had earlier thought it to be.

I gave him a nod and turned to the rest of the board.

“You know, if you have ideas to tell me, instead of hiding it, you can just show up and tell me. That woul

Julian’s povThe times went by without me noticing as soon, a month had passed and Carlos and I were getting really serious. We had been on numerous dates and we had even been to so many parties we had had our pictures taken multiple times by the paparazzi.I could tell that overtime, he was getting more and more protective of me and keeping people who wanted to harm me at bay.At first, I had warned him about his attitude of being aggressive, but he had told me it was because he cared for me that he was keeping me safe.My mother had warned me of his attitude but I still refused to listen to her.“He’s controlling you,” she had said to me after Carlos had pushed my butler out of the house for bringing me the wrong meal.“No, he’s protecting me. Why are you taking the butlers side on this?”She scoffed after I said that and shook her head. “You don’t see it. This is how it all starts. He starts to make you feel special and then he pushes everyone out of your life and by the time you r

  • His Second Husband    Chapter 132

Silas’s povAfter the call with Julian, I dropped the phone on the bed and went to talk to the carer taking care of the baby. She was having a hard time tracking care of the baby and I could tell from the line of concentration and the bead of sweat lined up on her cheek.“Is anything the matter?” I asked as I wringed my hands while standing there like a lost child. She took a break from cooing the child and turned to me, frustration etched on her face. “There is a lot going on here Mr Silas. The baby appears to be sick.”That was something I had not expected to hear from her and I was already terrified from hearing that.“I guess I'll need to call the orphanage and ask for a refund because there is no way they will give me a sick baby and ask me to be silent. Not happening under my watch.”She then sighed and picked up her bag like she was ready to leave. “You’re going already?” I asked, my eyes widened in shock. “This isn't part of my job description sir,” she said like she didn't

Julian’s pov“Hey, how is it going there?” Carlos said to me while I was getting into my room and closing the door behind me. I stood there and leaned my back against the surface of the door. It was cool, just what I needed at the time. I took my time before I answered the person thinking about what I wanted to say to them.“That is okay I suppose.”“And mom isn’t mad at you?”I sighed. “Well, we did fix things.”I then walked to the window to look out.“We had a talk. I think the woman hates you less now.”He chuckled. “I have you to thank for.”“She and I were able to find some common ground and that is a good thing.”“And what things did you two actually talk about if I might ask?”I narrowed my eyes while concentrating on a distant light that caught my attention.“How about we don’t talk about that right now? I have a lot to handle at the moment.”I hoped he would notice how straightforward I was and he would take that as an indication that I didn’t want to talk.“I’m guessing yo

Julian’s povI rushed up the grand stairs to meet my mother as I entered her room to see her laughing with one of the maids and the doctor by the side. I frowned.“What’s going on?” I asked, looking around as I was a bit confused. The butler had made this look like an emergency, a national one, and here they were, laughing like they were old friends.“Oh, Jules, welcome,” my mother said, pointing to the doctor. “He said that I have, um, hepatitis and a couple of other things, and it’s quite funny because I’ve been taking drugs to cure these, and instead, they keep coming back.”I looked at the doctor.“That’s the serious emergency?”“I told your mother this last week. I don’t know why you’re just hearing it now. But yes, she is in dire need of help. She’s been in a coma for a long time and she is still trying to adjust to the fact that she is awake.”“She’s supposed to have fully adjusted by now.”He nodded.“True, but this is a case that we are still studying. After-effects of being

  • His Second Husband    Chapter 129

Silas’s povI moved around with the crying baby, from the living room to the dining. I tried my best to shush it from making that much ruckus but who was I kidding? I knew nothing about babies. What was I thinking when I decided to go have one. And one that wasn’t even up to a year old.It wasn’t like this baby came with a manual. My butlers and maids were on their day off today. When I actually needed them, they were nowhere to be found.A knock came on my door as I dropped the baby on the table as it wailed even louder, while I rushed to open the door for Nathan to come in.“Great, you’re here,” I said, walking to the dining table to lift up the baby as I handed it over to him.He looked at it and me like I was holding hot coal and stepped back. “What the hell… is that?” He asked, his eyes darting from me to the bag every two seconds.“It’s a baby,” I said, giving him my best smile, but that did nothing.“I’m not holding that thing. What, did you pick it up from the streets or what
