ENZO's POV

I was halfway home when I glanced at the clock on the dashboard.

I picked up my phone and called Bruno.

“Did Nina get home safely?”

“Yes, boss.”

I relaxed slightly. “Good.”

There was a pause.

Then Bruno added, “But she’s been moody since she left the office.”

My grip tightened around the steering wheel.

“Moody?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Another pause.

“She saw Dante.”

My stomach dropped.

“She what?”

I pressed harder on the accelerator.

Bruno didn’t say anything

I watched Nina walk toward the building until the glass doors swallowed her from view. I stayed in the car for a few minutes, the engine still running, my hands resting loosely on the steering wheel. Bruno glanced at me through the rearview mirror. “Sir, are we heading somewhere?” I didn’t answer immediately. He noticed the hesitation on my face and waited. “No.” I paused. “Actually…” “Sir?” I looked toward the building again, then leaned back against the seat. “How do you think Nina would react if I gave her a proposal?” Bruno blinked. “Sir?” “What proposal?” I hesitated, trying to find the right way to explain it. “I mean…” I rubbed my jaw. “She does seem to still have feelings for me.” Bruno stared at me for a moment. “You mean you want to ask her to be your wife?” “Well, that.” I paused. “But maybe not that fast. A slow step.” “Oh.” Bruno turned slightly in his seat to look at me properly. “You mean girlfriend to fiancée, then wife?” “If

When I woke up, the first thing I noticed was the headache. The second thing was Enzo. He was already dressed, sitting in the chair beside the window, watching me. I blinked a few times before pulling the blanket higher. “Why are you staring at me?” “You got drunk last night,” he said. I frowned, trying to remember exactly how much I had drunk. “Oh.” Enzo stood up. “You don’t need to come to the office today. You need to rest.” I immediately sat up. “Are you firing me for getting drunk after office hours?” He stopped and looked at me as though I’d just accused him of something completely ridiculous. “What? I didn’t say that.” “You basically did.” “I told you to rest.” “And I’m telling you I’m fine.” “You have a headache.” “I’ll survive.” He shook his head, but there was a faint smile on his face. “Fine. Do whatever you want.” “Good.” I pushed the blanket aside and got out of bed. “I’ll get ready in a minute.” Enzo stared at me for a momen

Bruno didn’t say anything else. I ended the call and drove faster. By the time I reached the estate, my mind was already running through every possible thing Dante could have said to her. I stepped inside and immediately spotted Rosa. “Where’s Nina?” Rosa turned toward me. “She’s upstairs.” “Did she eat?” “She came back and went straight to her room. She hasn’t come out since.” I didn’t wait for anything else. I took the stairs two at a time and reached her room within seconds. “Nina?” No answer.

Enzo’s POV I was already out of my office when Bruno brought me my car keys. “Get the car ready,” I ordered. I had barely reached the entrance when my phone rang. Nina. I picked up immediately. “Nina?” I heard nothing but static. Then came a loud crash. The call went dead. My entire body went still. “Nina?” I called back immediately, but the phone was already unreachable. “Bruno!” He was already moving. “Drive.” He didn’t need me to say it twice. Bruno pushed the car forward, accelerating out of the estate while the security vehicles followed close behind us. “What happened?” he asked. “I don’t know.” My grip tightened around the phone. “All I heard was a crash.” Bruno glanced at me through the mirror before focusing back on the road. I said nothing. My mind was already running through every possibility, and none of them were good. The drive that should have taken longer felt like an eternity. By the time we arrived, several police v

NINA's POV “What?” I said. Enzo ran a hand through his hair and sighed. “I’m sorry this happened.” “You say sorry a lot these days.” He looked at me. “I told you I just wanted normal shopping, but I guess you already planned the shopping before I even got here.” “I only wanted to make things easier for you.” “By emptying an entire store?” “I thought you would appreciate the privacy.” I scoffed. “Well, next time, ask me before you turn an entire mall upside down.” He nodded, looking like he was trying very hard not to argue with me. I glanced around the store, then at the employees who were suddenly moving around like their lives depended on it. “I’m starving,” I said. “I’ll get you something now.” He was already turning when I stopped him. “No. Take me to a restaurant.” He turned back immediately. “Okay.” I looked down at myself. My hair was a mess, my clothes were no longer sitting as neatly as they had when I left the estate, and after being dra

“Tesoro.” The familiar name made something flutter in my chest, and I hated that I felt my cheeks warm. I looked at him. “I was scared earlier,” he said. His voice had changed. He looked ahead for a moment, as though he was trying to find the right words. “I thought…” He paused and sighed. “Why did you choose to stay?” I frowned slightly. “You could have gone to Paris and never looked back.” “You think I stayed for you?” His eyes met mine. “I want to rebuild my life here. In Milan.” He didn’t answer immediately. “Nina, I’m sorry.” I looked at him. “I hurt you before. I know you don’t want to talk about Sicily, but give me this chance to show you how sorry I really am.” “Enzo, I’m not mad.” I shook my head. “I guess we all had our misunderstandings.” Something softened in his expression. He leaned toward me. My heart immediately started beating faster. For a second, I thought he was going to kiss me. I didn’t move. Neither did he. Then
