Jude’s POV

My boots pound the stone, each step cracking the marble like it’s bone. Shadows writhe around me, tearing tapestries, snuffing torches with hisses of black smoke. Selene’s wing looms ahead, its iron doors carved with her family’s crest—a serpent coiled around a bleeding star. My blood burns, Raymond’s pulse fading in my chest like a dying drum. That letter, her letter, its red ink poisoning him, poisoning us. I’ll rip her apart before it takes him.

Guards block the doors, spears crossed, faces pale but stubborn. “Lord Perez, you can’t—”

My shadows lash out, snapping their spears like twigs. One guard screams as a tendril slams him into the wall, armor crunching. The other dives aside, cursing. I don’t stop. My hand slams the doors open, iron groaning, hinges screaming. The air inside reeks of blood-ink and frost, her scent everywhere.

Selene stands at the far end of her chamber, silk gown pooling like night, a silver pendant glinting at her throat—her mother’s, I’d bet. Her

  • His Straight Pet   Chapter 153

Jude’s POVMy boots drag against the stone, loud in the quiet. Every step feels heavier, like I’m hauling chains. The room smells like blood and bitter herbs — thick air that stings the back of my throat.Raymond’s sprawled across the bed, furs twisted around his legs, face gray and still. The bandage on his temple is soaked through. Fresh blood. My doing. My shadows flicker at my feet, impatient and angry, hissing like snakes. His heartbeat thuds weakly inside my chest — faint, uneven, but still there. The only thing keeping me upright.Selene’s curse — that letter — is killing him. And it’s dragging me down with him.I drop to my knees beside the bed. The stone cuts through my pants, but I barely feel it. His hand is cold when I grab it, fingers twitching once before they go still. His breathing’s shallow. Every inhale sounds like it costs him.The bond hums between us — sharp, almost painful — like a blade pressed against my ribs.

  • His Straight Pet   Chapter 152

Raymond’s POVMy blood’s on fire. It’s like the letter’s ink is alive, crawling through my veins, whispering disposable, no witnesses. I’m in Jude’s bed again, the furs heavy, suffocating, the room spinning like I’m drowning in ash. My head throbs where the stone split it, bandage sticky with blood. His scent—copper, frost, shadows—clings to the sheets, and I hate how it steadies me, even now. Even after everything.I see him in flashes: his fangs grazing my lip, his shadows cracking the council hall, his hand slamming me into the wall. You scared me, I told him, and he shattered. But that letter—his handwriting, or close enough—says I’m nothing. A vessel. A thing to be used and tossed. My chest aches, not just from the curse but from the doubt gnawing at my bones.A voice cuts through the haze. “Drink this.” A healer, her face blurry, presses a cup to my lips. It smells of herbs and iron, bitter as regret. I choke it down, coughing, my throat raw. She’s kneeling beside me, hands glow

  • His Straight Pet   Chapter 150

Jude’s POVThe council chamber stinks of wine and fear, the air thick as blood. The crescent table gleams under flickering torches, but the Lords’ faces are sharper—Dante slouched with that snake’s grin, Akira rigid as a blade, Selene serene as a fucking statue. My shadows twitch at my heels, clawing the marble, hungry for something to break. I shouldn’t be here. I should be with Raymond, his pale face burned into my skull—eyes rolling back, body crumpling like paper. But the council summoned, and I’m not fool enough to give them more ammunition.“You’re late again, Perez,” Dante drawls, swirling his goblet. “Trouble keeping your pet in line?”My fist clenches, shadows cracking the floor under my boots. “Speak of him again, and I’ll carve that smirk off your face.”Gasps ripple. A lesser Lord—some weasel-faced bastard from Selene’s camp—leans forward. “Threats in the chamber now? You’re proving our point.”Akira raises a hand, voice calm but cutting. “Enough. We’re here for the rematc

  • His Straight Pet   Chapter 149

Selene’s POVThe fire in my chamber spits like a cornered beast, throwing jagged shadows across the chessboard. The black queen stands alone, her king toppled, just as I left it last night. My fingers hover over her, itching to move, but I wait. Patience is my blade, and I’ve honed it sharper than any fang. The air hums with secrets—mine, Jude’s, the Dominion’s. They all converge here, in this room, where I weave the threads that will unravel Perez.A knock, sharp and timid, breaks the silence. My spy, the mouse-faced servant from Jude’s halls, slips inside, his hands wringing like he’s trying to choke his own fear. His eyes dart to the floor, avoiding the crimson glow of mine. Good. Let him squirm.“My lady,” he mumbles, bowing so low his nose brushes the stone. “It’s done. The letter… it’s with the boy. He took it. Read it.”A smile curls my lips, slow and venomous. I lean back in my chair, silk gown rustling like whispers. “And his face?” I ask, voice soft as a blade’s edge. “What

  • His Straight Pet   Chapter 148

Raymond’s POVMy head’s splitting, like someone’s driving a spike through my temple. The bandage wrapped around it pulls tight, itching where the stone gashed me open last night. Jude’s bed is too damn big, the furs heavy, smothering, like they’re trying to bury me. His chambers reek of ash and metal, the air sharp enough to cut. That kiss keeps clawing at my mind—his lips crashing into mine, all teeth and hunger, my blood bitter on his tongue. It should’ve sent me running. Should’ve made me hate him. But I’m still here, tangled in his sheets, heart hammering like it’s trying to escape my ribs. What am I to him? His lifeline? His prey? The council’s words echo in my skull—pet, weakness, chained. Jude’s shadows ripped the hall apart, and I was the idiot who chased after him, thinking I could drag him back from the edge. Then his hand hit my chest, slamming me into the wall, and for one heartbeat, I saw death in his eyes. Not because he wanted it. Because he couldn’t stop it.A creak sn
