Lila’s POV

My breath catches. Slowly, I trail my gaze upward, my eyes following the direction of that voice—until it lands on him.

Liam.

He stands there, tall and rigid, his jaw tight, his eyes burning with restrained fury as he faces the women. His words strike like a whip, controlled but laced with something dark and dangerous.

“How dare you say that about my wife?”

The women freeze mid-laughter, startled by his sudden presence. Their lips falter, and for a moment, silence sweeps across the air. The one who had spoken last lowers her gaze briefly, the others exchanging sharp, grudging glances before forcing back their poise.

My pulse stumbles.

What’s he doing here?

I hope he’s not here to cause another scene.

Oh goodness, how can I just escape from all of this?

Before I can move, he turns—slowly, deliberately—until his eyes find mine.

A faint smile stretches across his face, the kind that doesn’t reach his eyes. He walks toward me, each step measured and possessive.

When he reaches

  • His Tears, My Freedom    93 The spark I didn’t expect

Lila’s POV The music shakes through the floor like a living thing. Heavy bass, bright synths, something hot and addictive pulsing through the crowd. I can feel it in my chest. I can feel it in my waist as it sways without a thought. The lights flicker neon pink and electric blue over everyone, and the whole place looks like a dream that has no intention of ending anytime soon.I throw my head back and laugh as I raise the champagne bottle to my lips. Cold bubbles hit my tongue, sharp and sweet. Alessia is beside me with her red curls bouncing, already screaming the lyrics. Enzo is on the other side doing that smooth spin he loves, dancing like he owns the rhythm. Sofia shimmies her hips in a way that makes half the guys around us stop dancing altogether. We are chaos. Beautiful, glittering chaos.Alessia leans toward me, shouting over the pounding speakers.“I told you, Lila, tonight’s party is not one to miss. I swear this DJ sold his soul for this set.”I laugh into the rim of the

  • His Tears, My Freedom    92 Who are you?

Lior’s POV I barely notice the city blur outside until Rico pulls the Maserati to a smooth stop. The engine hums low, like it knows we’ve arrived somewhere we don’t belong.I step out, jacket falling against my sides, Andrea gliding beside me like he owns the night.Ahead, Club Eterno glows in cold, silver lettering above the velvet-lined entrance. The bass inside is already bleeding into the street, subtle but pulsing—like a heartbeat I don’t recognize.I tug at my cuffs and glance sideways. “Don’t tell me you brought me to a club.”Andrea grins like he’s proud of himself. “Come on, man. This isn’t some corner joint. It’s the real thing. Classy, high-end. Where Italian nightlife really lives.”I rub my temple. “You’re impossible.”He shrugs, cool and calm as ever. “Look, I booked the VIP space. That’s why I was late to the launch. I wanted everything to be set for you when you finally crawled out of the cameras.”I freeze. “So you ditched my launch for a reservation?”He lifts both

  • His Tears, My Freedom    91 Not so fast

Lior’s POVI adjust my cufflinks slowly, the soft click of metal meeting metal echoing faintly in the quiet room. The mirror in front of me catches my full reflection—sharp black tux, slicked-back hair, an expression I’ve learned to perfect over the years. Composed. Untouchable. But my gaze falters. That face at the mall flashes through my mind again—hers. I didn’t even get a proper look, just the briefest glimpse from behind. But something about the curve of her jaw, the way she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear… it shook me. Made my feet move before my mind caught up.I ran. Toward the crowd. Toward nothing.By the time I reached the corridor, she was gone. Like she’d never been there in the first place.I exhale through my nose and murmur to myself, “Where are you, Lila?” My fingers drag down the edge of my suit jacket. “I hope… wherever you are, you’re okay.”A knock on the door cuts through my thoughts. Dave steps in, dressed crisply in a navy-blue suit, holding the door ope

  • His Tears, My Freedom    90 Echoes in her eyes

Lila’s POVI slowly break away from the woman’s soft, steady gaze and push myself up from the floor. My friends immediately reach for my hands, grasping them gently and lifting me to my feet. I feel the warmth of their support, their eyes filled with concern, grounding me back in reality.“Thanks,” I murmur, brushing my hands over my dress to smooth down the wrinkles. I take a breath, straighten my posture, and face the woman again. A small, tentative smile forms on my lips. “It’s okay, ma’am. It was just an accident. I guess I was a little at fault too.”I notice my friends stealing glances at each other, curiosity and mild amusement dancing in their eyes. Even I am taken aback at the softness in my own tone, the calm politeness. It feels unusual, almost unnatural, but I can’t seem to help it. There’s something about the woman’s face—gentle, patient, quietly steady—that pulls the softness out of me. Her calm presence stirs a strange familiarity in me, one I can’t explain. I feel… lik

  • His Tears, My Freedom    89 Too pretty to cry

Lila’s POVThe second the car halts at the mall’s underground lot, I hop out, brushing a strand of hair behind my ear as I look around at the crowd. The place is buzzing—kids tugging at their parents, lovers walking hand-in-hand, shoppers with bags stacked high like trophies of triumph.I glance over my shoulder at the others piling out of the car and grin.“So guys, where do we begin with first?” I ask, bouncing slightly on the balls of my feet. For a moment, the group goes quiet, each of us scanning the wide, glimmering glass structure ahead like soldiers preparing for battle. Then, as expected, Enzo breaks the silence.“Come on, guys! Why worry about that when I’m here?” he says with a cocky grin, flipping his hair back in that annoyingly perfect way. “I just discovered a new store here that has the best party-ready outfits. You’ll love it,” he adds, throwing me a dramatic wink that earns him a light shove from Sofia.Alessia claps her hands once and beams. “Okay! That’s settled th

  • His Tears, My Freedom    88 Held like a breath

Lila’s POVThere’s a soft thud on the table.I glance up just in time to see Alessia drop a flyer right in the center, her smirk already speaking volumes.“Okay, guys,” she says, sweeping her gaze between me, Sofia, and the only guy in our group—Enzo, who’s halfway through scribbling into his notebook. “I think it’s time for a break.”I sigh and lean back in my seat, eyeing her with a frown. “Don’t you ever get tired? We just had a party last weekend…” I trail off, rubbing my temples. “And our project’s coming up soon. We need to make sure we present the best, right?”I curve my body and rise from the chair, stepping over to where Alessia stands. My hand slides around her neck in a half-hug, half-threat.“But…” I say, lowering my voice, grinning, “we only live once. So what the hell does a project got on us?”Alessia turns, smug smile blooming across her face.Sofia and Enzo jolt up from their seats with a cheer like they were waiting for the green light.“I knew it!” Sofia squeals.“
