Calla sat by the window of her room, her eyes watching the wide yard outside, and the water flowing from the fountain. The statues looked beautiful, something out of an ancient painting, but she couldn't see it anymore. Not after what Donna Marta told her about it.

It made her wonder how many people's blood had been spilled in that fountain. How many people's lives had the De Romanos ended, and if they felt any ounce of sympathy?

She sighed, playing with the hem of her dress, her mind wandering

  • His To Possess    Chapter 151: Happy Our Birthday

~•~Fifteen Years Earlier~•~The Romano mansion was unusually lively that afternoon. The large dining hall had been decorated since early morning. Long black and gold ribbons hung from the ceiling, and a large birthday cake sat in the middle of the long table. Two tall candles shaped like the number '16' stood proudly on top of it.Servants moved around the room carrying trays of food and drinks, whispering to each other as they worked.“It’s the twins' birthday today,” one of them said with a small smile.Guests filled the room, chatting and laughing while soft music played in the background. Little Sophia ran around with friends, shouting and giggling as they played 'catch'.The Romano family rarely held celebrations, so whenever they did, it became a big event.Near one of the tall windows stood two boys who looked identical.Luciano Romano stood calmly while a few relatives gathered around him. His dark hair was neatly combed back, and he wore a fitted black s

Calla froze, confusion and disbelief washing over her as she tried to process what she just heard."Wha— Huh?""Fucking throw it away," he repeated in a whisper. He got out of bed and walked past her to the window. With a deep groan, he shut the window and drew the curtains, then headed back to bed, not once glancing at her. He pulled the blanket over his body. "And shut the door when you leave."She scoffed, even more confused that she hadn't heard wrong. Was he asking her to throw away the cake she had spent hours making for him and was excited about? It must be the drink. It has to be the alcohol."Is there something wrong with the cake?" She spoke softly, pulling closer to the bed. Maybe he didn't understand what she had said. "Is the strawberry too much? Or maybe you're not a fan of chocolate? Are the blackberries too black?"Rico didn't answer. He had his back turned to her, blanket drawn over his head. Calla didn't know whether to laugh or cry. She should've seen this coming. S

It was five in the morning, and Calla was already up, her entire body was giddy with excitement as she headed for the kitchen. She had barely slept a wink, her head occupied with thoughts about today. It's Rico's birthday, and she wanted to make a simple and special cake for him. The maids were already in the kitchen, busy with their chores and prepping meals. She smiled to herself, thinking they were making a birthday breakfast for Rico. Her heart warmed at the thought. When she'd told them she needed to make a cake to go with his breakfast, they all looked at her like she had grown two heads. Calla couldn't understand why they seemed so shocked and... scared?"No-no, Miss..." one maid said in a hushed tone. "You can't."Calla frowned, she looked at the other workers, and they all seemed to agree with the first maid who spoke."Why not?" She asked."He-a... he doesn't like it," another maid replied, looking towards the kitchen door and back at Calla."Nonsense," Calla waved it off,

  • His To Possess    Chapter 148: A Way To Apologize

Two days had passed since Rico left her room, and Calla still felt guilty. He hadn’t said anything about it, not a single word, but he had been distant ever since. He barely came out of his room or office, and when he did, it was like he was somewhere else entirely. Calla’s chest tightened every time she thought she was the reason he was that way. Her heart would start beating faster, and her stomach twisted as her guilt ate her away. She sighed and ran her fingers over the edge of the couch in her room, trying to calm herself. She didn’t know what to do. She kept thinking about how she could apologize, but every idea felt small or wrong. A maid had told her Donna Marta traveled, which was so sudden. She left the house quiet and empty. Even Sophia wasn’t acting like herself. Her usual bright, teasing self seemed subdued, barely smiling like she normally would, which was suspiciously strange.Calla felt alone, even in the house full of people. She didn’t know what to do. The house s

Most of the time, the mind tells the body how to act and react. But on rare occasions, the body moves before the mind has the chance to think it through. Calla was in the exact position right now. She didn't think it before her hand flew to Rico's face. Her heart sank when she saw the bright red mark left by her fingers. His face turned to the side, his hand held into a tight fist and his jaw clenched. But she didn't back down now. Not when she'd already acted out.She raised her chin and straightened her shoulders. "You think you can scare me? Not today."She saw the slight twitching of his lips, showing he was trying to contain his anger, but that wasn't enough to make her cower. Rico slowly turned his head to look at her. His usually dark eyes had grown even darker, like storm clouds gathering behind them. His gaze lingered on her face for a long moment, tracing every detail as if he were trying to memorize it or understand what had just happened. For a second, Calla expected him

Perhaps, the first mistake he made was coming here. If he hadn't asked his driver to drive down here when he got that photo, then he wouldn't be in this situation. Maybe he should have called Calla over the phone and demanded she come back to the mansion immediately. But he wasn't that type of man. He was reckless and fearless. He loves to watch eyes widen with shock, and color drain from someone's face by just sitting there and watching them. People said his name alone was intimidating. What more his presence?Rico had thought showing up here meant Jace would be intimidated and cower away. But the young man remained unafraid under Rico's stare.“Lyra was…” Jace began, but his words slowly faded. His eyes drifted away for a moment, as if he had been pulled into an old memory. A small smile touched his lips before he looked back at Calla. “She was the quiet kid,” he said softly. “Always sitting somewhere in the corner of the class where people wouldn’t notice her. Always has he head b
