CHAPTER FIVE- BEDRIDDEN
GABRIELLA
I could hear gasps from the crowd and I strained my ear to be sure I heard properly. That voice sounds familiar.
Isn’t that Alpha Waylen’s voice? But he’s supposed to be dead. What the hell is going on here? My head hurt as I began to think of what could be happening behind the darkness of the blindfold.
“How dare you tie an innocent person and try to execute her. Release her at once!” I heard Alpha Waylen’s voice roar like an angry Lion.
I felt pressure over my eyes as my blind fold was taken off. I squinted my eyes as it came in contact with the piercing bright street lights.
My vision was slowly starting to get clearer. My eyes weakly darted around and I could see a bunch of people holding a wooden stick with fire burning on top of it.
I could see someone walk towards me; and as he got closer, my brows curved in surprise. Alpha Waylen is alive and well, and he saved me!
“Are you okay?” He moved towards me and crouched, examining my face.
A drop of tears fell down my face as I looked at him. I didn’t know why I was crying. Was it because someone cared enough to stop this? Or the fact that I’m alive?
Suddenly, a wave of darkness hit me, and I found myself slipping out of consciousness; then everything went black.

I could hear the sound of voices echoing around me. I couldn’t make out who was talking or what was being said. I realized it was because my eyes were shut and slowly made an attempt to open them.
The room was dim, so my eyes didn’t hurt too much as I slowly opened it. I could faintly see Alpha Waylen’s shadow a little distance away from me; he was having a conversation with someone I couldn’t make out their face.
I wanted to sit up, but my body was too weak to move. I let out a frustrated groan and luckily, they picked up the sound and looked in my direction.
“You’re awake,” I heard Alpha Waylen say and they both walked towards me.
“Hello, I’m your doctor, Bailey,” The woman close to him hovered over me, a faint smile appearing on her face as she examined me.
My eye met with his, and I could see something in there. I didn’t mistake the concerned look in his eyes as the doctor checked my pulse and other areas of my body.
“She’ll be fine. All she needs is to rest and take her medication,”
The doctor left shortly after and I was left alone with Alpha Waylen. I could hear the sound of my heart beat as the deafening silence in the air hung like a thick cloud.
I did not expect such a powerful Alpha to care so much about an ordinary chef to give her a private room and go ahead to hang around. I met his gaze, and I could see him staring intently at me. I wanted to look away but I couldn’t.
Those brown eyes, staring at me like I was a puzzle had a soft look to them. He had an unreadable expression on his face so I couldn’t tell what he was thinking.
Wait a minute! This man saved my life, and I haven’t even appreciated him for that.
“Thank you,” I muttered, my voice coming out softer than I intended it to. “For saving me,”
“I should be the one thanking you,”
I was taken aback by that statement. But I didn’t have to wonder for long because he continued speaking.
“Your soup….it tastes exactly like my mother’s. But it’s even more special. I like yours better,”
My eyes widened in astonishment, and I could feel my cheeks grow warm. My soup is special to Alpha Waylen? I feel so honored.
“That means a lot, Alpha Waylen,”
“Please, call me Waylen,” he said to me, an unreadable expression plastered on his face.
“Yes, Waylen,” I dragged the word, because it felt strange in my mouth.
However, I still had unanswered questions to ask and as if he could read my mind, he dove straight to speaking about my unanswered questions.
“What happened was a misunderstanding,” he sighed, his jaw clenching tightly. “After I tasted your soup, I felt something stir up within me. I was being healed from the inside, and something in me was tamed, but in a much peaceful way,”
I looked at him in surprise, not sure of what he was talking about.
“I won’t go into details,” he said flatly, the edge of his lips twisting uncomfortably.
“But anyway, I was healing, and my body had to rest for that to happen. I’m perfectly fine. Somehow, they assumed I was dead,”
“So does that mean I’m free of all charges?” My eyes were laced with curiosity.
“Yes, of course. If anything, your special soup helped me and you should be rewarded for that,”
I went silent, only because I didn’t know what to say. Alpha Waylen; I mean Waylen suddenly sat on the bed beside me, and his hand reached for my forehead.
I froze as his hands came in contact with me. I could feel electricity surge through my veins and I didn’t know why.
“You’re cold,” he murmured, more to himself than to me.
Just then, there was a soft knock on the door.
“Come in,”
The door opened, and I saw the girl who didn’t like me from the first day we met. Jada told me her name is Olive.
She walked in with a tray of soup and tea, looking surprised to see me lying so comfortably with Waylen seated beside me.
“Alpha Waylen,” she gave a light bow.
“Your soup is here. This would help you stay warm and relaxed,”
“No, I’m fine,” I sat up, suddenly feeling uncomfortable with the way Olive was staring at me with dagger looks in her eyes.
“I think I should go back to the servant quarters. I’m fine,”
“I shall escort her!” Olive added sharply as if she had been waiting for me to utter that statement.
“That won’t be necessary, because you’re sleeping in my room tonight,”
CHAPTER FORTY- SECRETSWAYLENI stood still at the door, listening hard to hear if I could get pieces of information to fuel my knowledge.“There’s someone here. I can feel someone’s presence,” I heard her say at the other end of the door. Since she had figured someone was around, I knew she wouldn’t talk further so I knocked on the door.“Who is it?”“It’s me, Alpha Waylen,”“Alpha Waylen?” I heard her strained voice from the other end of the phone, followed by the loud sound of roughling, then the click of a metal. The door opened, and Agatha flashed me a crooked smile.“Alpha Waylen,” she gave a slight bow. “You’re here. I’m surprised,”“I need explanations!”She nodded and gave way for me to enter the house. I walked in, my eyes scanning around. The small room was empty and silent, only the occasional hiss of fire dancing in the fireplace could be heard. The room was filled with all sorts of weird drawings and writings on the wall, something ethereal, that only those that deal with
CHAPTER THIRTY NINE— LAKE DRAMAGABRIELLA I was hurt and traumatized. The fact that I was a few seconds away from death made my heart bleed. Even worse, it was from my mate. I couldn’t wrap my head around it and despite how serious the issue is, he has refused to tell me why he tried to strangle me.I wanted to be on my own and clear my head. The garden seemed like the best place to be, so I hastened my steps till I got there.I paused as I saw Christabel sitting on the bench and staring into space. Right now, all I want is to be alone, to be surrounded by the sweet scent of flowers, and watch the pretty butterflies—“Oh! Hello Gabriella!” Christabel’s voice snapped me out of my reverie. My eyes darted towards her as we locked gazes. I could see a small smile tug at the edge of her lips.“You’re here by this time,” I croaked.“Yeah. I got tired of sitting in my room,” she paused as she noticed the countenance on my face.“Are you okay?”“I don’t think so,” I sighed, my face tighteni
CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT—TORN APART WAYLENI didn’t know how, but Erasmus managed to consume me and take over my being. I could feel him overpower me while I got lost in his shadow. I didn’t realize when he began to strangle Gabriella. I was too busy, trying to fight him and gain control over my body as I plunged into a world of darkness. And then I could hear her tears, and then her voice.“Waylen—please “The words hunted me, and I struggled with the last strength I had in me. Her voice gave me a new found vigor and somehow, I managed to gain control over Erasmus and take control of my body.I let go of her and she staggered back, coughing as she held onto her throat.“Gabriella!”She slowly looked up at me, her eyes filled with fear as her body began to shake. I was broken by the sight of her. The way she looked at me like I was a monster hurts like hell.“Please, I’m sorry—“ I took a step forward.“No!” She exclaimed, her lips quivering in fear. “Stay away from me!”And with that, sh
CHAPTER THIRTY SEVEN—STRANGLEDGABRIELLA I took my timer to ensure I prepared the best meal for Lady Sandra and her friend. I wanted them to have the tastiest meal so I made sure everything I did was well thought out and carefully cooked to perfection.I was done at exactly seven and I glanced at the living room to see if the guest had arrived. I could see a strange lady in the living room, talking with Lady Sandra so I knew she had arrived.I placed the plate on a tray and carried it firmly in my hands as I went to the living room.“Good evening,” I gave a slight bow. “I’ll be your chef for—“I stopped talking as Lady Sandra’s guest turned to face me. It was Elora! My eyes widened in surprise as I held her gaze, my mouth quavering in shock.“Hello, Gabriella,” she gave a twisted smile.“You two know each other?” Lady Sandra looked from me to Elora, her brows squinting in surprise.“Yes. I met her in Alpha Waylen’s office,”“Oh! Good, you two have met. Gabriella is a fantastic chef,”
CHAPTER THIRTY SIX—IDENTITYGABRIELLA My heart skipped a bit as I read the message, my cheeks flushing red. I couldn’t wait to be in Waylen’s arms again and even if I tried to fight it, it wasn’t working. I was falling helplessly for him and all I want right now is to enjoy the moment.Just then, Olive appeared in front of me with folded arms.“So this is where you are? I don’t—“She paused as she stared at Wendy, blinking hard at her. I watched in confusion as they both stared at one another.“Have you two met before?” I asked curiously, looking from Wendy to Olive and watching their mannerisms.“No!” Olive answered sharply while I stared at her in confusion before turning to face Wendy, whose face had lost color.“She’s right. I haven’t seen her before,”“Are you sure, Wendy?”“Of course I am. I think I just felt a little sick all of a sudden so don’t mind me,”“If you say so,” I sighed.“You know you shouldn’t be sitting out here while we slave in the kitchen. You’re not allowed h
CHAPTER THIRTY FIVE—SEEING HER AGAIN GABRIELLA I blinked twice, surprised that she would ask such a question. I didn’t think she was in the same social status as someone like me for us to hang out in such a manner.“Me? Are you sure about that?”“Of course I am. We both don’t know our way around so we will make the best duo,”“Oh!” I scratched the back of my head, not sure of the response to give her.“I’m not sure I’m allowed to do that. Plus, I have to work to do,”“I’ll talk to Waylen so you don’t have to bother about that. So what do you say?” “Um…yes, I guess,”“Yaaaay!” She clapped her hands like an excited child. “Great, I’m happy to hear that. I’m sure we’re going to have a lot of fun together,”“Gabriella!” I heard my name. I turned around, my face lit up in a smile as I recognized that voice. It was Wendy’s.She ran up to me and enveloped me in a hug.“Oh Gabriella! You have no idea how much I’ve missed you,” she laughed, breathing into my hair.“Me too,” I cooed, relaxi
