Two Days Later

I was struggling with grocery bags in the Walmart parking lot, the cold was biting through my sweater. My arms ached, but not as much as the tension that had been eating at me since that last run-in with Damian.

"You’ll always be mine."

..."Don’t even think about Wesley."

His words looped in my head. My fingers brushed my belly, a quiet reminder of what mattered.

Then it hit... a sharp, slicing pain in my stomach. I gasped. The bags slipped and groceries spilled everywhere. I clutched my belly and collapsed.

“Oh my God! Are you okay?!” someone shouted, running toward me.

I couldn’t speak. The pain was blinding. My vision blurred.

“Call 911!” another voice yelled.

Since the bar, I’d been feeling cramps on and off, but nothing like this.

“No… no… no,” I whispered, curling in.

Terror took over.

Damian’s voice echoed again: "You’ll regret that" as the world faded to black.

---

I woke up to a dull ache in my lower belly. Everything hurt. Even between my legs, there was a strange, throbbing pain. The lights were bright, and the bed was clean. Too clean. It smelled like antiseptic. Monitors beeped softly beside me.

I tried to sit up... and that’s when I saw him.

Damian.

He was leaning against the wall like he owned the room. A cigarette hung between his lips, and he was dressed in that perfect gray suit. His expression was hard and unreadable.

“Ms. Carter, you’re awake,” a calm voice said.

I turned to the man at my bedside. It was a doctor, Nathan Reed, according to his badge.

“You need to rest,” he said gently. “You’ve just had a D&C.”

I blinked. “A what?” My voice cracked.

“The procedure,” he explained. “The abortion. Mr. Holt signed the consent forms.”

I sat upright, my heart slamming in my chest. “What the fuck are you talking about? I never agreed to shit!” I turned to Damian, my vision blurring with red-hot rage. “What did you do, you bastard?”

Damian exhaled smoke slowly, watching me like it was all just business. “It’s done, Lila. Deal with it.”

My chest squeezed tight.

“No. No, no, no. You didn’t.” I ripped the IV from my arm, my body shook. “You killed my baby! Who the hell gave you the right?! You're a murderer!”

Dr. Reed stepped back. “It wasn’t like that, Ms. Carter. There were complications… Mr. Holt said you understood–”

“He lied!” I screamed. “That was my baby! I never…” My breath hitched as I turned to Damian. “Why would you do this?!”

He didn’t flinch. “You heard the doctor,” he said, flicking ash onto the floor. “It was already dead. You were unconscious and bleeding heavily. Your life was in danger. So I just helped you clean up your mess.”

“My mess?” I whispered, my voice breaking. “You're a monster! How could you do this to me? To our baby?!”

He looked me dead in the eye.

“Don’t,” he said. His voice was low and dangerous. “Don’t act like you’re the victim here, Lila. You lost that thing because you ran. Because you went to Wesley. I didn’t do shit.”

I stared at him, tears burning in my eyes.

“You did this out of jealousy? Can you hear yourself?”

Damian stepped closer. His voice was like gravel when he spoke again. “You don’t get it, do you? You pushed me, Lila. You ran to Wesley like you could just disappear.”

He leaned in, his breath reeking of whiskey and smoke.

“I would’ve waited for you to wake up. Waited for the doctor to tell you what was wrong with the baby… even if your damn life was in danger. But I wanted to punish you. I wanted you to wake up to this. No warning. No preparation. Just pain.” He blew smoke in my face. “This is on you. You don’t get to walk away from me. Not for him. Not for anyone. And once I figure out where this all started… then you’ll understand what real revenge looks like.”

“You’re obsessed,” I whispered. “You can’t stand that I might move on. You're trying to keep me chained to you? You're fucking insane.”

He smirked, but I saw something darker flash in his eyes. “Keep telling yourself that,” he said, stepping back. “But you’ll always be mine. Even if I never touch you again.”

“Fuck you!” I spat, ripping out the remaining IVs, blood dripping down my arm. “I’m suing you. You and this whole damn hospital. You think you can just do this and get away with it? You're finished!”

Dr. Reed stammered. “We thought… Mr. Holt insisted–”

“Shut up!” I snapped.

But Damian just smirked. He took a slow drag from his cigarette.

“Sue me? You?” He laughed. “You were nothing before me. And you’ll be nothing after.”

Dr. Reed gasped, stammering again. “Ms. Carter, we… Mr. Holt said–”

“I said shut the fuck up!” I shoved past him. “You’re just as guilty.”

Then I started limping toward the door.

“Lila,” Damian called. His voice dropped, it sounded low and threatening. “Stay the hell away from Wesley. That body? That’s still mine. Always will be.”

I froze.

“Go to hell,” I whispered. “We’ll see in court.”

I didn’t look back. I limped into the hall, my gown fluttering behind me, and my bare feet was freezing on the cold tile.

But inside... I was on fire.

Author’s Note: Chapter 5

This chapter shattered me.

Writing it wasn’t easy. Lila wakes up to the kind of loss no one should face, and even worse, Damian made the decision without her. Whether it was jealousy or cruelty, one thing is clear: the damage is done.

This chapter is about more than grief. It’s about control, betrayal, and the moment everything shifts.

What would you do if someone stole your choice, your voice, in something this life-altering?

Let me know what this chapter stirred in you. Because it left me breathless.

With all my heart,

Snow swirled around my windshield as I drove through LA, not really seeing the road. I had spent three days hunting for a lawyer, and every door slammed shut the moment I mentioned Damian Holt. The man was untouchable. Every attorney I talked to either looked scared or flat-out told me no. Victor Grayson included. My chest ached from the loss, from the D&C, from knowing I had been lied to and used. My baby was gone, and no one would help me fight for justice.I pulled over on a bridge, stepped out, and leaned on the railing. The cold wind cut through my coat, but I didn’t care. My hands were shaking and my face was frozen with tears.Just then, my phone buzzed. I fished it out of my coat pocket with numb fingers. Wesley’s name lit up the screen. I hesitated, then answered.“Hello?”“Lila?” His voice was warm and filled with concern. “Are you okay? I saw your email... you accepted the job. But you didn’t respond to my voicemail. What’s going on?”I swallowed hard, blinking back tears.

Four months ago.We were at a concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Music was blasting, lights were flashing, and the crowd was buzzing. I wore this tight red dress, low-cut and clinging to my curves. My hair was loose and my body was buzzing. Damian sat next to me, his hand kept creeping up my thigh. I tried to stay quiet in the packed amphitheater, but the asshole wearing this cute tuxedo wouldn't let me.“Damian,” I hissed, trying to push him away. “We’re in public.”He just smirked, his fingers brushing against my panties, right over my clit. “You’re soaked, Lila,” he whispered in my ear. “Don’t act like you don’t want it.”I squirmed, biting my lip. My thighs clenched. “Please stop. People can see,” I whispered, heat rushed to my face even as my body betrayed me.But he didn’t stop. He just slid a finger inside my pussy, slow and deep. I gasped, grabbing his arm. I bit my lip to stop the moan from escaping my lips.“You’re mine, Lila,” he growled. “I’ll touch you whenever I want.”I gri

Later that morning, I stepped out of my car in front of Zenith Plaza, the high-rise on Alhambra Gardens Road where Grayson’s office was. The cold bit through my coat, and snow dusted my shoulders as I handed my keys to the valet; some guy with a bright smile."Welcome to Zenith Plaza, ma'am," he greeted me. "I'll park her safe."I nodded, barely registering what he was saying. I sighed as I smoothed my black pencil skirt and purple blouse. My breath fogged in the cold as I walked into the building.Inside the elevator, I stared at my reflection on the mirrored walls as I tapped the 20th floor button, it was pale and tired. My eyes were hidden behind the dark sunglasses. And my heart was pounding. I had no idea what I would find behind Victor Grayson’s door, but I needed someone brutal enough to go to war with Damian. I couldn't afford to mind his notorious shamelessness: how he had no shame and fμcks anywhere. His online profile was blunt as a blade. But I didn't care as long as he ha

When I stepped outside Arroyo Verde Hospital, I flagged down a cab. My body was still trembling as I climbed into the backseat, clutching my phone like a lifeline. Mia’s texts were waiting for me, buzzing nonstop with unread messages, but I couldn’t bring myself to open them.“My baby…” I whispered, watching the hospital’s large sign disappear as the car pulled away.I tried not to cry. God, I tried. But the tears came anyway. It was silent and endless. My hand rested on my stomach. It was flat. Empty. Hollow.“Fucking bastard,” I breathed. “I’ll never forgive you for this.”The pain wasn’t just physical. It felt like something had been ripped out of me, and I wasn’t sure if I would ever feel whole again. Now I understood real heartbreak. Not the kind people whine about after a breakup. The real kind, the kind that cracks something open deep inside you… and leaves it bleeding.I remembered my dad losing his mind after my stepmother miscarried five times before she overdosed. I didn’t

I walked into Damian’s company the next morning, my heels were clicking on the polished floor and my heart was still raw from last night.Everyone was staring and whispering.“Did you hear? Acting like she mattered just because the boss was screwing her.”I ignored them, my skirt and blouse did little to shield me from the shame burning under my skin. I wasn’t here to beg.
