Damien Cross POV

I’d carried lies before whole empires were built on them. But this one was different. This was about Adrian. And it was killing me slowly, I honestly have to tell him before it becomes something worse.

For a week, I lived two lives. By day, I was the devoted husband, the co-CEO, the steady presence at Adrian’s side as we expanded Hale Hotels further than even Richard ever dreamed. By night, I was the hunter, pulling strings in the shadows.

A blocked number. A deep voice.

“You’re looking for me, Damien. Stop wasting time. If you want answers, meet me where it all began.”

The line went dead before I could reply.

The old Hale estate. Adrian’s childhood home.

Richard Hale wasn’t running anymore. He wanted me to find him.

I didn’t tell Adrian. I told him I had business overseas, that I’d be gone in two days. He looked at me strangely but didn’t press further. Though I know he di

Adrian’s POVThe night refused to end.Rain kept falling heavily washing Evelyn's blood away. She was lying on the couch, Damien was kneeling beside her, pressing a towel against her shoulder. His hands were shaking. Her baby was crying so loud in my arms.“Shh…” I whispered, rubbing him. “It’s okay, you’re safe.”I tried singing a Lullaby but it didn’t work.Damien looked up suddenly. “Adrian! Get me another towel to stop the bleeding!”I ran to the kitchen grabbing the first clean towel I saw and rushed back. When I reached the couch, Evelyn’s eyes were half-open, her lips shaking. She looked at me, then Damien. “Don’t… let him find you.”I frowned. “Who?”Her voice cracked, barely a whisper. “Viktor… he knows… about the vault.”“The vault?” I repeated. “What vault?”Damien froze. He didn’t look at me at first, but when he did, there was something dark in his eyes. Something old.“Damien,” I said slowly. “What is she talking about?”He didn’t answer. Just pressed harder on the tow

DAMIEN CROSS POVI stood on the balcony, watching the street light.Inside, Adrian was talking calmly to the nurse who had just brought the baby’s milk. The baby kept on crying calmly. It should have made me smile. But it made me frustrated.Something didn’t feel right.Adrian had been smiling all evening, trying so hard to make things feel normal again. He kept laughing, making jokes, pretending everything was fine. But deep now nothing was fine.I saw how his hands trembled when he thought I wasn’t looking. He came out to the balcony a few minutes later, wearing one of my shirts. His hair was messy, his eyes tired.“He’s finally asleep,” he said calmly, leaning on the rail beside me. “You look like you’re somewhere else.”“I am,” I said quietly. “Everywhere else but here.”He frowned, confused. “Damien…”“I just keep thinking,” I whispered, my voice low. “Everything’s changing so fast. We’re adopting a child, Adrian. That means we’ll be responsible for someone’s whole life.”He gave

Adrian’s POVDamien’s arm was around me. Like nothing had happened last night. Like Helena hadn’t looked me in the eye and broken my whole world with just a few words. The room scents like him.It was still there on the table across the room. That small brown folder that carried the weight of my whole life.I hadn’t slept. Every time I closed my eyes, Helena’s voice came back.“You were stolen. You don’t even know who you are.”Then I’d hear Damien’s voice from last night, rough and desperate.“I was trying to protect you.”My chest started beating so fast. I didn’t know who to believe anymore.I slowly slid out from under his arm. He moved a little, his breath catching, but he didn’t wake right away. The air felt cold when I left his warmth.I stood there for a moment, staring at the folder. My fingers itched to touch it, but my heart screamed not to. Still, I took a step. Then another. When I reached it, I picked it up. My hands shook. The paper felt heavier than it should. Then hi

Damien Hale POVThe sound of the door closing was loud. It shook the whole house.“Adrian,” I whispered, but he didn’t answer. Anytime he goes silent it hurts my heart.I looked down at the folder in my hand. I was short of words. Helen has already told him.My chest felt heavy. I should have told Adrian long ago. I should have trusted him. But fear stopped me. Fear of losing him. Fear that he would hate me if he knew everything. So I stayed quiet, thinking I was protecting him. But now… he looked at me like I was a bad person.I stayed by his door for a long time. I hoped he would open it. I hoped he would say my name. But all I could hear was him crying.I leaned my head against the door. My voice came out low.“Adrian, I didn’t want to hurt you. I wanted to keep you safe. I was scared of what the truth would do to you.”He didn’t speak. After a while, I stepped away. I felt as if I betrayed him, my legs weak. I walked downstairs and poured myself a drink. Then I heard the study do

Now he keeps things for me.I sat up, staring at the door where he had gone.“Why are you lying to me, Damien?”The next morning was so cold Damien sat at the table with a cup of coffee, a newspaper in his hands.
