CARTER

For eight years, I had lived with one truth, that my sister died because of a drunk driver.

A nameless man.

A faceless monster.

Someone whose identity I tried to question but I was shut down.

Eli’s father killed Catilyn.

And Eli, he had no idea what he was stepping into when he walked into my life. A bitter laugh escaped my mouth.

I got to the estate and it was too quiet, like no one was home.

My father was in his study when I found him. He didn't even look up when I barged in.

“Carter” he said mildly “I wasn't expecting you, this early”

“I need to ask you something”

I seemed to get his attention as he folded the paper he was reading and faced me. “Well?”

My voice came out low, “Why wasn't the driver who killed Catilyn held accountable for her death?”

He didn't flinch or act like I had just ripped a wound. Instead, he set his glass down.

“We did what was necessary”

My hands curled into a fist, “That's not an answer”

His eyes sharpened, just like they did when any junior tried t

CARTERI wasn't sure if I would still take my seat at the end of the table but I sat there anyway. Dean Holloway had made it clear that I had to step down from some curricular activities ‘pending further clarification.’Which I assumed was just a way of saying the university didn't want a scandal on its hands. The conference room was bright. Half of it was white walls while the other half was floor- to - ceiling windows. The board members filed in, Professor Pierce, Dr. Rowan, and even Dean Holloway. Vanessa arrived last, of course, sweeping in like she owned the conference room itself.I had to remind myself that Vanessa was now actually a professor and not some random lecturer who seeks attention, because why else would she be in this meeting that was for professors and board members? She met my gaze for a fraction of a second and she looked a little too satisfied.Dean Holloway remained standing and cleared his throat, “Let's begin, shall we? Today’s agenda: departmental performanc

ELIThe morning air felt heavier than usual. I wasn't surprised, after all that had happened. Going to school today was something I should have opted out of. But I didn't want to raise Maya’s suspicions or anybody else’s for that matter.Maya walked beside me, sipping her iced coffee like it was the only thing keeping her sane. I had barely said ten words since she picked me up and she finally judged me hard enough to make me stumble.“Okay spill” she said in between sips, “you look like you slept in a blender”“Let's get to school first” I said trying to stall.“School can wait. We’re early anyway”I swallowed, my throat felt tight, like my own body wasn't ready for the truth that I had been carrying around for the past twenty-four hours.“Maya” I scratched the back of my neck “I found out something about Carter”“I knew it. It had something to do with him, because you only went to pay your condolences yesterday. Please don't say you're in love with him” she rolled her eyes.“It's wo

ELII stared at Carter like he was a sexy god. I mean, he looks like one. But it was evident that this was the best sexual activity I had ever had. And it just took me being bold. Crazy how the rush of adrenaline while being turned on can make me do things I wasn't sure I was bold enough to do.We were now both fully naked on his bed, all my scars now visible in plain sight. He motioned for me to move closer and I did. Before I could gather my thoughts I was under him and he was hovering above me.He started kissing my neck and moved downwards. From my collarbone to my chest. He pushed when he got to my left nipple, moving his tongue and nibbling over it. It sent a surge of fireworks through my veins as I arched my back off the bed and moaned Carter’s name.My action seemed to excite him, because he moved to the right nipple and nibbled it even harder with his fingers still on my left nipple.Slowly he began to move his lips away from my nipple and cold air pickled the wet spot he had

CARTERI don't think I should start lying that I do these things when I'm not in my right senses because I was in the right state of mind when I pulled Eli into my house and kissed him on the spot. When my forehead was placed on his, and I told him I missed him, it seemed like I had turned on a switch. He immediately pulled me back into a longer kiss, this time taking control. I was loving it.“Do you want to take a shower?” I asked breathily and I hadn't had one since the previous day.He hesitated, “I just had..” He stopped, then nodded, and I pulled his hand behind me all the way to my bathroom.Getting into my master's bedroom, I watched him gaze around my large suite. The last time he was here, it was dark so he probably hadn't seen the real beauty of it.“Do you want to sit and wait or join me?” I asked. I wanted to make him feel comfortable and not pressure him into doing anything he didn't want to.“I’ll wait here” he said and I was a little disappointed.I walked into the bat

ELIThe sky was grey and it was the kind that looked bruised. I walked down the gravel path of the Cemetery with my hands buried deep in my pockets and my jaw clenched tightly.I hadn’t been here since his funeral. Back then I didn’t cry, nor did I speak. Everyone thought it was my way of grieving, little did they know that I felt no sense of emotion at the death of this man. I just stood beside my mother, holding her hand but I was furious that the world expected us to mourn a man who had destroyed everything good in our home. Now almost a decade later and nothing felt different.I found his grave next to an oak tree. It was a simple headstone, nothing extra like the other ones I had seen on my way here. No flowers. No sign that someone had visited here in days. That was good. He didn’t deserve any.I stopped a few feet away. My throat felt raw and my stomach twisted. I couldn’t make myself move any closer.“I don’t know why I’m here” I said quietly. “I don’t forgive you. I don’t eve
