The masked men drawn their weapons. Desi's eyes widened on horror.

Gunshots echoed through the hallways, shattering the calm of the mansion. Desi gripped Lily's hand tightly, her heart racing as she watched Lucas take on the attackers.

“Stay close to me, Lily,” Desi whispered, her voice steady despite the chaos surrounding them. “We need to get to safety.”

Lucas moved swiftly, using every ounce of his strength as he engaged another intruder. The man lunged at him with a knife, and Lucas dodged, the blade grazing his side. He felt a sharp sting but pushed through, adrenaline coursing through him, dulling the pain.

“Get to the safe room!” Lucas shouted, his voice a fierce command as he fought. “Now!”

Desi hesitated for a split second, fear gnawing at her, but she nodded resolutely. “Come on, Lily! We need to go!”

They dashed down the hallway, dodging debris and the sounds of struggle. Lucas’s men had taken up positions, firing back at the intruders.

Desi leaned against the balcony railing, staring out into the darkness, the city lights below flickering like distant stars. Her mind was a whirlwind, tangled up in everything, the secrets she’d tried to bury. The weight of it all felt unbearable, pressing down on her chest until she struggled to breathe.Damien asked her to tell him, but could she really do that? The soft shuffle of footsteps made her tense. She turned slightly, and there he was. Lucas was standing a few steps away from her. He looked hesitant, almost uncertain, an expression she hadn’t seen on his face before. His usual confidence was replaced with something softer.“Couldn’t sleep either?” he asked, his voice was low even in the silent night. She shook her head, her fingers gripping the railing tightly. "No… just needed some air."They both fell silent. Unsure of what to say. Finally, Lucas cleared his throat and looked at her.“Desi,” he called softly and took a small step closer, “I… I came to apologize.” He sa

  • His to Punish, Hers to Revenge    Damien

Desi sat in her room, numb, her thoughts spiraling as Lucas’s harsh words echoed in her mind. She pulled her knees up to her chest, wrapping her arms around them, feeling the weight of every disappointment. All she wanted was to help Lily, yet it felt like every step she took was pushing her further from that purpose. As much as she didn't want to admit it, he had hurt her deeply. It felt like her heart was breaking and he didn't even care.A soft knock broke the silence, and her heart skipped, hoping it might be him. She held her breath as the door creaked open, revealing Damien. He stepped in quietly, his gaze shifting from her hunched figure to the floor.“Hey,” he said gently, leaning against the doorframe. “You doing okay?”Desi forced a nod, not trusting her voice. “I’m… fine,” She finally said, her voice cracking.“Doesn’t look like it. You have been crying,” he murmured, stepping closer. Desi rolled her eyes. “You must have heard the news too. You don't need to pretend you

“Murderer.” “Dangerous.” “Not safe for Lily.”Desi’s mind was spinning. The words seemed to swirl around her. Each word felt like a cold slap, making her stomach churn. She hadn't thought much of their glances. Their eyes filled with suspicion, the accusation that lingered in the air anytime she walked around the house. It all made sense now.She couldn’t think; she could barely breathe. Her hands began to shake uncontrollably, and it felt like the walls were closing in on her.But she forced herself to move, her footsteps unsteady as she stumbled down the hall, searching for Lucas. Her thoughts were a jumbled mess, tangled with fear, anger, and a surge of panic that made it hard to catch her breath. She pushed open the door without knocking.“Lucas,” she choked out, her throat felt dry. “What…People… your men, they’re saying things about me.” Her voice broke as she tried to steady her breathing.Lucas looked at her, his face hardening slightly. “What exactly did you hear, Desi?”“

“Miss Desi,” the woman started, “Mr. Lucas arranged for Dr. Thompson to be Lily’s doctor for now. He…he wanted to make sure you were informed. Lily’s seeing him this afternoon.”Desi’s hand froze mid-reach for the medicine cabinet when she heard the soft voice of one of the house staff. Mia, one of house staff had spoken softly, hesitantly, as though delivering a bad news. The words felt like a sudden, sharp cut, and it took Desi a moment to process what she heard. “He… what?” Desi blinked, trying to process what she’d just heard. “Another doctor?” She forced herself to keep her voice steady. “When did this… start?”Mia looked uncomfortable. “I’m not sure and I don't know much about the decision, Miss Desi. I just know Mr. Lucas asked for Dr. Thompson to handle Lily’s check-ups. He, um, I think he’s making sure you can have a break, is all.”A break? The notion of a “break” seemed almost laughable to Desi, though there was no humor in it. She tried to hide the tremor in her voice. “T

Desi stood outside Lucas’s office, her hand hovering just inches from the door. she waited for some minutes, unsure if this was necessary. But she could no longer pretend like everything was fine. she didn't know if it was intentional, but Lucas had put some sort of restrictions between her and Lily. For days now, Lucas had been keeping her at arm’s length, making it almost impossible for her to see the child she was supposed to be helping. It didn’t make sense, and the weight of what could be eating him up made her anxious.Steeling herself, she knocked softly, then waited for his response.“Come in,” Lucas’s voice sounded from within, low and calm, but distant. She entered, closing the door behind her, feeling the tension rise between them. Lucas sat at his desk, papers strewn across it, his focus seemingly absorbed in the documents in front of him. He didn’t look up, but she could see the rigid set of his shoulders, and the darkness clouding his usually sharp gaze.“Lucas,” she be

  • His to Punish, Hers to Revenge    Doubt

A sharp knock broke the silence in his office. He sighed, glancing toward the door. “Come in.”The door opened, and Damien stepped inside, his expression unreadable, holding a thick envelope. “You’re going to want to see this,” he said, his voice low.Lucas arched an eyebrow, reaching out for the envelope. “What is it?”Damien handed it over, his gaze serious. “Another threat. But this one’s… different.”Lucas ripped the envelope open, pulling out the letter inside. As his eyes scanned the lines, his brows furrowed. He read aloud, each word unsettling him more.“‘Do you know who Desi really is? Do you really trust her?’” He looked up at Damien, confusion and tension tightening his jaw. “‘I am your rival, but I would hate to see you die before I kill you.’”Damien nodded, crossing his arms as he leaned against the wall. “Whoever sent it want to get under your skin, make you doubt her.”Lucas scoffed, though his fingers gripped the letter tightly. “Doubt Desi? She’s the one person who’s
