The engine screamed like something alive and furious under Elvis’s hands.

Night air tore through the open window of the black GT-R as he drifted through the final hairpin on the abandoned industrial stretch outside the city. Headlights cut the dark. The smell of burnt rubber and high octane fuel clung to everything. Behind him, a silver R35 closed the gap with brutal precision. Noah. Always Noah.

Elvis’s jaw locked. He downshifted hard, felt the rear end step out, and powered through the apex with a snarl of tires. The finish line was a spray-painted stripe across cracked asphalt two hundred meters ahead. He could taste the win already until the silver car lunged beside him, engine howling, and Noah’s front bumper edged past by half a car length.

They crossed the line almost together.

Almost. Noah took it.

Elvis killed the engine and sat in the sudden quiet, breathing hard, knuckles white on the wheel. The underground race crew was already shouting, money changing hands, phones lighting up with slow-motion replays. He climbed out, the night air cool against the heat rolling off his car. His black racing suit clung to his shoulders and chest, damp with sweat.

Noah stepped out of the silver GT-R like the track belonged to him. Tall, lean, dark hair still perfect even after ninety minutes of pure aggression. That same calm, almost bored expression he always wore when he beat Elvis. It made something vicious and hungry twist low in Elvis’s gut.

“You’re getting slower,” Noah said, voice low, almost conversational. He peeled off his gloves, finger by finger. “Or maybe you’re just distracted.”

Elvis closed the distance in three long strides. “Say that again.”

Noah’s mouth curved not quite a smile. “You heard me.”

The crowd around them sensed blood and quieted. Street racing had rules, but the rivalry between Elvis Kane and Noah Rivera had stopped being about rules a long time ago. It was personal. Every race. Every near-miss. Every time their cars kissed paint at two hundred kilometers an hour.

Elvis’s hand shot out and fisted in the front of Noah’s suit. He shoved him back against the warm hood of the silver car. Metal creaked. Noah didn’t fight it. He just looked at Elvis with those dark, unreadable eyes, pulse ticking visibly at the base of his throat.

“You drive like you’ve got nothing to lose,” Elvis growled. “One day that’s going to get you killed.”

Noah’s gaze dropped, just for a second, to Elvis’s mouth. “Maybe. Or maybe I just know how to live with the risk.”

The air between them went tight. Too tight. Elvis could smell the faint trace of Noah’s cologne under the scent of rubber and heat. Could feel the solid line of his body under the racing suit. Something dark and unwanted coiled in Elvis’s stomach want, sharp and ugly and completely unwelcome.

He let go like he’d been burned.

Noah straightened his suit with deliberate calm. “See you at the next one, Kane.”

He walked away without looking back. Elvis stood there longer than he should have, watching the way Noah moved through the crowd easy, controlled, like nothing ever touched him.

It was a lie. Elvis knew it was a lie. He’d seen the cracks.

Noah’s phone started buzzing the second he unlocked the door to his apartment.

He ignored the first three calls. On the fourth he answered, already knowing.

“You were racing again.” His father’s voice was cold steel. No greeting. No wasted breath.

Noah dropped his keys on the counter and leaned against it, head bowed. “It was just practice.”

“Don’t insult me. I have people who keep me informed. You’re twenty-three, Noah. Not a child playing with toys. Your mother and I have been patient, but that patience is finished.”

Noah closed his eyes. He could already hear the rest.

“The arrangement with the Voss family is not a suggestion. Clara is a good girl. Intelligent. Well-bred. Her father and I have been friends for thirty years. This marriage will secure both our companies and give you a future that doesn’t end in a crumpled piece of metal on some back road.” “I don’t love her.”

“Love is not required. Stability is. Respect is. Continuity is. You will propose next month at the charity gala. Publicly. Is that understood?”

Noah’s free hand curled into a fist against the cold marble. “And if I say no?”

Silence stretched. When his father spoke again, the temperature in the room seemed to drop.

“Then you will no longer be my son. The trust freezes. The company shares revert. Your mother will not speak to you. And every door I have opened for you in this city will close. Permanently.”

  • Hold The Apex    Chapter 5 - Voicees

The men did not raise their voices. They simply stood in the wash of headlights and waited. One of them held up a phone. Noah’s father’s voice came through the speaker, calm and final.“Get in the car, Noah. Now.”Elvis shifted his weight, ready to move. Noah caught his eye and gave a small, sharp shake of the head. Any fight here would only make the consequences worse. He stepped away from the car and toward the sedan. Before the door closed he looked back once. Elvis stood alone on the cracked asphalt, hands clenched, face unreadable in the glare. The ride home passed in silence.Three days of carefully constructed distance followed.Noah attended every required appearance beside Clara. He smiled when cameras flashed. He answered questions about the upcoming announcement with practiced ease. At night he lay awake staring at the ceiling, replaying the feel of Elvis’s mouth and the exact moment the headlights cut across them.Elvis disappeared from the usual circuits. No messages. No

  • Hold The Apex    Chapter 4- The summons came before sunrise.

Noah stood in his father’s study while the older man paced behind the desk. The city was still dark beyond the windows. The video played on a muted tablet between them, looping the terrace moment in cold, clear detail.“You will end this,” his father said. No raised voice. That made it worse. “Whatever it is. Whatever he is. Finished. Today.”Noah kept his hands at his sides. “There is nothing to end.”“Do not lie to me in my own house.” The tablet was turned so the screen faced him again. Elvis’s face. His own. The way they stood. “You will call Clara this morning and apologize for leaving her side. You will attend every remaining event at my side. And you will never speak to that driver again. If you do, the trust closes. The shares revert. Your mother will be instructed not to contact you. Am I understood?”The silence that followed felt final.“Yes,” Noah said. His father studied him for a long moment, then dismissed him with a small movement of one hand.Outside the study Noah le

  • Hold The Apex    Chapter 3- the Gala

The ballroom smelled of expensive perfume and forced smiles.Noah stood near the tall windows with a crystal glass he had no intention of finishing. Clara Voss rested her hand lightly on his arm, the picture of polished grace in a pale blue dress. She laughed at something his mother said, the sound bright and practiced. Noah mirrored the expression expected of him. Inside, everything felt scraped raw.Four days. That was all the time his father had left him.The cut on his temple had been carefully covered with makeup. His shoulder still ached beneath the tailored black jacket. Every time someone congratulated him on the “exciting news,” the words landed like small blows.Across the room, the main doors opened.Elvis walked in as if he belonged there. He wore a dark suit that fit too well for someone who usually lived in racing gear. His hair was still slightly damp, as though he had showered in a hurry. He didn’t look around for permission. His gaze found Noah within seconds and held

  • Hold The Apex    Chapter 2- The rear of Noah’s car snapped sideways on the blind left-hander.

Elvis saw it happen in the sharp white glare of his own headlights. One second the silver R35 held a perfect line. The next it was sliding toward the sheer drop, tires screaming, taillights flashing red against black rock. Noah corrected hard. Too hard. The back end swung the other way and the car slammed into the low concrete barrier with a sound like a gunshot.Metal crumpled. Sparks sprayed. The R35 bounced off the wall, spun once, and stopped at a crooked angle, nose pointed toward the void.Elvis’s heart slammed against his ribs. He stood on the brakes, felt his own car shudder, and stopped twenty meters short. Dust and rubber smoke rolled across the track. For a frozen second nothing moved. Then he was out of the driver’s seat and running. The quarry lights were sparse. Most of the other cars had already passed or slowed far behind. Someone shouted in the distance. Elvis reached the silver car first. The driver’s door was jammed. He yanked it once, twice, then braced his foot ag
