Chapter 1

Author: Perfect Timing
The moment the words left my mouth, a vicious slap crashed across my face.

My father stood in front of me, yanking my hair as he snarled furiously, "Have you lost your mind? Since when did this horror game become your turf? I personally know several mid-level ghosts here, and none of them have ever mentioned someone like you!"

My brother and mother hurried to help Nicole to her feet before turning to glare at me in anger.

"We sent you into this horror game so you could learn your place and serve Nicole properly from now on! How dare you hit her!"

Clearly, I was the one related to them by blood. Yet the hatred in their eyes rivaled that of enemies who'd carried grudges for years.

A self-mocking smile tugged at my lips.

How stupid I'd been to believe they brought me home to make up for abandoning me… that they would cherish me twice as much afterward.

Covering my swollen cheek, I let out a cold laugh.

"Before you took me back, I grew up in this instance. The three bosses here are my family. So tell me—what's wrong with calling this my turf? And if someone orders me around in my own turf, shouldn't they get slapped?"

Laughter immediately erupted around us.

One veteran player even wiped tears from his eyes from laughing too hard.

"Little Missy, did your dad hit you so hard you went stupid? You actually dare say the three bosses of Happy Home are your family?"

Not a single person believed me. After all, the survival rate of this instance was terrifyingly low.

The red-clad female ghost had once slaughtered an entire room of players in three seconds, then hung their corpses upside down from tree branches with red silk, creating a forest of dangling bodies.

The Scissorhands monster had skewered more than a dozen people together, stirring their organs with his blades until they dissolved into a pile of flesh.

As for the warden, he locked each team inside separate rooms and released over a dozen ghosts among them, forcing them to betray one another in desperate attempts to survive.

In the end, every single one of the players was torn to pieces.

All the players knew was that the bosses' methods were monstrously cruel.

What they didn't know was that those people had ended up in such horrifying states simply because they'd flirted with me a couple of times.

My adoptive family's protectiveness toward me bordered on insanity. And precisely because of that, I had wanted to leave this place and return to the real world—to live like a normal person.

After hearing my words, not only did the other players refuse to believe me, but my biological brother became so enraged that he stood up and drove a brutal kick into my stomach.

"If Nicole hadn't insisted we bring you back, who knows what backwater village you'd be stuck in right now, married off to some eighty-year-old bachelor!"

Nicole started fake-crying softly beside him.

"Don't be too hard on Alison. She never got any love growing up, so now she just blurts out whatever comes to mind… She's even treating ghosts like family."

At the Bennett family's cue, the crowd turned to me with mocking looks.

"So she's just some clueless country bumpkin?"

"Even ghosts would probably throw up after eating someone like her."

"If she wants ghosts as family so badly, let's just throw her out there! Once she ends up in some ghost's stomach, she'll probably thank us for it."

Right then, the apartment complex administrator showed up to escort us into the residential district.

My father immediately kicked me toward him.

This administrator was one of the mid-level ghosts my father knew.

My father sent money to support the ghosts' families back in the real world, and in exchange, those mid-level ghosts kept them safe inside the game.

As long as they didn't provoke the final bosses, they could survive safely until the instance ended.

In my past life, they did the exact same thing—offering me up to the mid-level ghosts for entertainment in exchange for clearing the game.

Blood kept pouring from my wounds.

The administrator instantly started swallowing hard.

Nicole's vicious voice whispered right next to my ear.

"Mr. Administrator, this woman says she's related to the three bosses of your complex! Claims she's their precious princess."

The thick smell of blood flooded my nose.

The administrator looked down at me.

"What princess? How dare a human insect try to claim any connection to our bosses?"

Furious, he opened his enormous, blood-soaked jaws and lunged to swallow me whole.

I screamed at the top of my lungs and stopped him cold.

"I want to see your bosses! Right now!"

I released Mission Two.The objective was a competition for a treasure item—a red dress that could hide a person's presence. The moment the system notification appeared, Nicole latched onto her brother in a panic."I want that dress! If I don't get it, I'm going to die here!"But by then, the Bennett family had already become everyone's target. Even just trying to hide and survive had become a luxury. My brother shoved her away impatiently."If you want to die, go do it yourself. Don't drag us down with you."My father and mother didn't even bother to look at her.A flicker of resentment crossed Nicole's eyes. That night, she snuck out on her own, startling the other players awake. She went tearing through the instance in a frantic escape.Just then, my adoptive brother was drying my hair. He let out a cold snort."Nicole is seriously selfish. Even I feel embarrassed for her."And she was—Nicole's plan was to expose where the other Bennett family members were hiding. She w

"The game difficulty has been upgraded. Only high-level ghosts may remain in Happy Home. Mid-level ghosts must evacuate the residential complex immediately."The fatal mechanical voice echoed throughout the entire building."What?!"Nicole couldn't help but scream.Granny Rosa was the only high-level ghost they could currently access. Without her as a messenger, they would all die here without question. My father and brother's expressions flickered with panic as they paced back and forth, unable to find a way out.Meanwhile, some players had already begun searching for Granny Rosa's whereabouts.Because when I issued the mission, I had also attached a generous reward—a life-saving talisman that was capable of blocking one fatal attack from a boss.So by the next morning, I received the system notification that the mission had been completed. Granny Rosa had been killed by several players. She had been torn into pieces. At this point, the players looked even more like ghosts th

Granny Rosa was a high-level ghost. Hence, I had always assumed she had no attachments left in the human world. But I discovered something unexpected—her granddaughter was working as a maid in the Bennett family. And Nicole frequently beat and scolded her, something I had often stepped in to stop in the past.Yet, I never expected was that the moment she saw me appear alongside the Bennett family, she used me as a bargaining chip through telepathy. She agreed to cover up the Bennett family's abuse and attempted murder of me, ensuring my adoptive mother would never find out.In return, the Bennett family would secure a good marriage for her granddaughter and guarantee her a life of comfort and safety. After all, I had no real power in the outside world. Having the Bennett family protect her granddaughter was her best option. As expected—whether human or ghost—everything ultimately bowed to interest.Granny Rosa had also watched me grow up.And earlier… she truly had intended to

The instant I took over the administrator's position, the mechanical voice echoed through the instance once more."Game forcibly initiated. All players must enter Happy Home within thirty minutes. Failure to comply will result in consequences at your own risk."In an instant, everyone shuddered violently. They rushed toward the residential complex in a frantic stampede. After they had all entered, my mother carefully used her ghost energy to heal me.She examined me over and over again, checking every inch of my body. Only after confirming I had no other injuries did she finally breathe a sigh of relief."Your dad and brother are in another instance for a cross-world exchange today. I'm the only one here. If they find out someone hurt you, they probably won't even bother with the rules—they'll just tear this entire group apart."Hearing her words, Granny Rosa lowered her head guiltily and forced a flattering smile."I… I was careless just now and didn't recognize the young miss.

The moment everyone heard the woman's voice, goosebumps erupted across their skin. Instinctively, they clapped their hands over their ears.Only I burst into tears as I cried toward that familiar voice."Mom… it hurts so much."The woman before us wore a red dress that looked as though it were dripping blood. Her entire body floated in midair. Long black hair spread wildly around her, instantly wrapping around the gatekeeper and administrator as she spoke coldly,"You're the ones who hurt my Alison?"The two ghosts were hurled away on the spot. The sound of cracking bones echoed beside my ears. But the moment the woman turned toward me, her movements immediately softened. Her horrifying face—empty eye sockets and all—transformed into that of a breathtakingly beautiful human woman the instant she looked at me.Filled with worry, she hurried forward and pulled me into her arms."Alison, are you alright? Why are you covered in injuries? Why didn't you tell me the moment you came b

My parents' faces instantly flushed red with rage."Alison, what the hell do you mean by that? If you're so capable, then call on a higher-ranking ghost! Otherwise, just wait to be torn to pieces!"My brother sneered as well."If you rip her apart right now, I'll give each of your families twenty thousand dollars!"Hiding behind the three of them, Nicole shot me a smug, provocative smile. It was as if she were saying, 'Your family belongs to me now. You deserve everything happening to you.'I used to never understand why.But the moment I saw the love and indulgence overflowing in my brother's eyes whenever he looked at Nicole, I finally realized the truth. To him, Nicole was no longer just a sister. My parents bringing me back to become the Bennett family's "real" heiress was nothing more than a cover for their twisted relationship. And the reason they sent me into this place… was because I'd dared to question why they loved Nicole more while constantly neglecting me.The i
