Haden

Alpha Haden,” he said, voice heavy. “And company. You brought the cavalry I smell. An entire bloodline. How odd...”

His gaze slid over Curt, Chase, Lechandray, then landed on Keiral. His smile thinned.

Keiral stepped forward and opened her small hands toward him, "How do you do? I'm Keiral. So lovely to be here you highness." She smiled as her hand remained outstretched.

"Well this is the time you outta take my hand and say well hello dear. Or how you doing."

He growled and I grabbed Keiral from the back of her neck, and placed her behind me.

“This one talks too much,” he said flatly. “Send her away. Let her enjoy the city whilst we finish here.”

Keiral bristled. “Excuse me?”

“You heard me,” he said, dismissing her like a servant. “This conversation does not need a chatterbox.”

He had a distinct undertone when he spoke and I wondered where he got it from. I didn't remember if he had it before. How odd.

Her face went red. “Noise? I am your equal, lion. I am

  • How to Catch a Mate   Chapter 146

AshlynMorning came quiet. I had this feeling like something was off. The air was stilled by an unknown calm. The kind of quiet that felt wrong. Too soft, too simple. it ruffled my fur the wrong way. The Den was still half asleep when I rolled over, the light coming through the blinds turning Krav’s skin gold. He lay on his side, one arm tucked under his head, breathing steady. For a second, I let myself just look at him, and take in every slope of his neck, the column of where his throat bridged, and his flesh stretched. The bits and pieces of stubble, a pimple or five from shaving too often. The way his hair fell over his forehead, the faint hue still hiding under his skin even when he was relaxed.Peace. That was the word that came to mind.It scared the hell out of me.I slipped out of bed, pulled on one of his shirts, and padded barefoot to the kitchen. The kettle clicked and hissed as it heated, the smell of damp wood mixing with coffee. Everything felt normal. Ordinary.Unt

  • How to Catch a Mate   Chapter 145

Ashlyn Curt and the others had turned in hours ago, no one wanting to mention what happened tonight. The rain had eased into a soft drizzle that clung to the valley like a breath that wouldn’t leave. I stood by the window in the wooden room, staring out at the stretch of mist that swallowed the forest edge. The place was dim, lit only by the small lamp near the couch. It smelled like cedar, steel, and him that tonka warmth that always wrapped around my chest until I couldn’t tell if I was breathing air or memory. He walked out of the shower, a towel loose at his hips, his hair still damp and pushed back. The sight of him like that, bare, effortless, calm, hit harder than I’d ever admit. “You’re thinking again,” he said, voice low. I didn’t turn. “You make that sound like a bad thing.” “It is when you’re planning how to disappear.” I sighed, pressing my hand against the cold glass. “I’m not planning anything.” He came up behind me, close enough that I could feel his heat throu

Ashyln The wolf’s form rippled. Fur sank. Bones shifted. She stood up human. Wet hair. Pale face. Oversized sweater cut down the back for fast changes. Eyes still silver at the edges. “You think I do not know worse,” Mira said, voice raw. “I watch you walk around with the god sniffing your blood and you tell me to relax. I cannot. I am not built like you. I am not an Alpha. I am not a saint. I did what I had to.” “No,” I said. “You did what hurt less. Those are not the same.” She flinched. “I know why you are angry,” I said. “You survived something your body was not supposed to survive. You think that gave you a debt to pay. It did not. It gave you a chance. You do not pay a chance back by stealing someone else’s.” Her chin lifted. “I can become whatever I need to be. I can hold a door shut if I must.” “You cannot hold this one,” Krav said for the first time. His voice did not rise. “I have tried. It eats everything you give it and then asks for more.” Mira looked at him like

Ashlyn Rain eased to a steady spit by the time we left the Den. The roads out of Questorian Valley were slick and empty. Curt drove the lead jeep. Haden took the second with Lechandray. I rode with Krav. No music. No chatter. Just the grind of tires and the occasional ping from Curt’s tracker.Crosslands sat south of the ridge where packs and clans pretended to tolerate each other for the sake of trade. Black-market stalls under corrugated roofs. Shipping yards that never closed. A maze of alleys where money moved faster than questions. If Mira wanted noise and cover, this was it.We parked under a dead light two blocks from the market spine. Krav scanned the rooftops. Haden checked weapons. I pulled up the street mesh Keiral had synced to my slate. The Crosslands grid wasn’t part of Panther City, but Ellan’s outer nets still scraped enough passively to give us air.“Last ping from Keiral’s comm was at 23:18,” Curt said, tapping his screen. “One block north of the fish wharf. Then it

AshlynThe air hummed with tension. Rain drummed against the roof, the kind of steady rhythm that filled silence when no one wanted to speak first.Krav leaned against the wall by the window, his arms crossed, eyes unreadable. Haden paced. Curt sat on the edge of the table with his elbows on his knees, watching both of them. Lechandray was in the corner, rubbing her temple, muttering under her breath about how this was exactly the kind of mess we didn’t need right now.And me? I stood in the center of the room, staring at the glowing screen on the table—the security footage that showed Mira walking into Keiral’s apartment, calm and easy, before everything went dark.I couldn’t look away.“She took her,” I said, finally. My voice sounded thin even to me. “Mira took her.”“Dragged her out like a damn pup,” Curt added. “No noise, no struggle. Cameras caught a shadow after that, looked like...”A wolf,” Lechandray finished, sitting back. “Black. Bigger than any wolf I’ve seen.”That part

KeiralThe storm had been building all day, crawling over Panther City like it was hunting for somewhere to land. By nightfall, it broke—lightning carving through the clouds, rain smashing against the windows of the small apartment Ellan had given me.The city below looked half asleep and half alive, all metal and neon, lights smeared by the downpour. I’d killed the lab feed an hour ago, but the numbers and pulse charts still flickered behind my eyes every time I blinked. Too many anomalies. Too much power where there shouldn’t be any.I hadn’t slept properly in days. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the Hollow—the same endless black Ashlyn described after her run-in with Rizakeal.Except now, it wasn’t just her visions. They’d started leaking into me.I’d tried to pretend it was stress, exhaustion, the overload of handling too much data for too long, but my reflection said otherwise. My eyes looked older. Haunted. Like something was watching me from behind them. The hum of the rain
