Chapter 5

Author: The Genesis
Lena watched helplessly as the bracelet fell to the ground. The string snapped, and the wooden beads rolled all over the ground. In the ensuing chaos, someone stepped on them, and several beads were instantly crushed into fine powder.

She stared blankly at the shattered remains, completely oblivious to Henry bending down to pick up the fallen Ava. The shouting around her suddenly felt miles away. The only thing she could hear was a persistent, piercing buzzing in her ears, and everything in front of her was a blur. Nothing felt real.

Henry shielded Ava in his arms and looked down at her, asking, “Are you hurt?”

Seeing Ava shake her head, he frowned and turned to Lena.

Trying to suppress the fury in his voice, he said, “Lenny, she was about to give it back to you. Why did you have to push her?”

Those words felt like a needle, breaking Lena out of the numbness. Her gaze slowly drifted down to Henry’s feet. One of the crushed wooden beads was embedded right into the sole of his shoe. At that moment, the last of Lena’s sanity snapped. Before anyone could react, she grabbed a wine bottle off the table and smashed it over Ava’s head.

“Ah!”

Piercing screams instantly erupted throughout the room.

Blood oozed down Ava’s forehead, instantly staining her white dress red. Ava’s eyes rolled back from the sheer pain. Through a vision blurred by blood, she saw Lena grabbing yet another wine bottle.

This time, Henry finally reacted. He grabbed Lena's wrist in a death grip, his face terrifyingly cold.

“Lena, have you lost your mind? How could you assault someone?”

Lena let out a bitter laugh, her voice filled with pure hatred. “She destroyed my mother’s keepsake. Even if I killed her, it wouldn't be enough to appease my anger!”

Only then did Henry notice the shattered beads on the floor. He glanced at them and barked, “The bracelet breaking is your own fault! If you hadn’t pushed her, would it have broken? I’ve spoiled and indulged you too much, and it has made you lawless!”

Each word stabbed deep into her heart. Whenever she had a conflict with Ava in the past, Henry would always smile and say, “Do whatever you want. I’ll always have your back.” Yet now, he labeled her as spoiled.

With red eyes, Lena suddenly burst out laughing. “No matter how spoiled I am, you’re the one who allowed it. What, do you regret it now?”

Henry’s expression turned ugly. “If I knew you would turn out like this, I would have put you in your place a long time ago!”

Before he could finish what he wanted to say, a muffled groan came from behind him. Ava’s body went limp, and she passed out.

Henry quickly caught her in his arms and said, “I’ll settle the score with you later.”

Then, lifting Ava into his arms, he shoved past Lena.

Thrown off balance, Lena fell onto the floor, her lower back slamming right against the sharp corner of the table. The agonizing pain brought tears to her eyes. Yet, with Ava in his arms, Henry walked straight out, never looking back. It was as if he had not seen her.

Black spots filled Lena’s vision. Watching him disappear down the hallway, she felt every ounce of strength drain from her body. With things having escalated, the rest of the people dared not stick around either, and they all eventually slipped away.

Soon, Lena was the only one left in the private room. She crawled along the floor, searching for a long time before she finally recovered two intact beads. She carefully clutched them in her palm. Her heart throbbed as if it were being torn apart, but she bit her lip, refusing to cry because nobody would care anyway.

After some time, Sydney came looking for her. Taking in the mess on the floor, Sydney opened her mouth to ask what happened. However, upon meeting Lena's gaze, she swallowed her words. Instead, she took Lena's hand and escorted her back to her apartment.

Right after saying goodbye to Sydney, Lena walked up to her apartment and spotted a dark shadow hovering there. Hearing her approach, the figure turned around. It was Henry.

The two of them stood in silence for a long while before Henry finally spoke, his voice raspy. “Ava woke up. She wants to press charges.”

Lena let out a mocking sneer. “And?”

“I managed to stop her, but Ava has one condition…” Henry’s dark eyes locked onto hers. “She wants you to be her maid for a day and take care of her every need.”

Lena’s breath hitched, and she stared at him in utter disbelief. “And you agreed?”

Henry's gaze was cold. “I can't exactly watch you go to prison, can I? Lenny, consider this a lesson. It’s about time you fix that temper of yours.”

“You guys…”Lena stared at the two people standing at the door. She was too astonished to speak.Sydney rushed forward, immediately grabbing Lena’s hand and pulling her toward the exit. “There’s no time to explain. Let’s get out of here first!”As Sydney dragged Lena forward, Lucas kept pace right beside them, effortlessly shoving away the maids who tried to swarm them.“What is going on? Sydney, how did you even end up here with him?” Lena asked as they ran.“The moment I got your SOS text, I sent people to investigate it. That’s how I found out Henry had kidnapped you onto this private island,” Sydney explained, her words flying out at lightning speed. “But I didn’t have enough manpower on short notice to guarantee a rescue right under Henry’s nose. And right around then, Lucas tracked me down. He said he knew you and wanted to team up.”She shot Lena a wink and teased, “Not bad, girl. Where on earth did you reel in a billionaire bachelor like this? He’s literally the heir to a

Henry’s face instantly drained of color. His lips trembled so hard that he could not form words.Looking at his pathetic state, Lena felt a twisted sense of satisfaction bubble up inside her, and she deliberately took her time to continue, “If you hadn’t shown up, I probably would have dated him, fallen in love, gotten married, and maybe by now… we would have had a beautiful child together–”“Stop it!” Henry roared, his eyes bloodshot. “Lenny, I’m begging you. Please don’t say another word!”“Heh,” Lena snorted. “You need to understand that from the exact moment you kidnapped me, brought me to this place, and forced me to marry you, the only thing I have left for you is pure hatred.”Henry could not take another second of it. He stumbled to his feet and fled the room in a blind panic once again.Lena watched as he left, the warmth in her eyes fading into ice. She had to find a way out of there as soon as possible. “I am not marrying you!”Lena’s chest heaved with fury. The absolute absurdity of the situation made her blood boil.As if he had not heard a single word she said, Henry carried on casually. “I had a few more custom wedding dresses made for you. Let’s eat first, and then I’ll take you to try them on.”He reached out to grab her hand, but Lena slapped it away and bolted toward the front door, desperate to escape that place immediately. To her surprise, Henry did not even try to stop her. However, the moment she shoved the front door open, she understood why he was so confident.Outside, there were no city streets. Instead, a massive estate unfolded before her. A solitary villa stood squarely in the center of a manicured lawn. In the distance, people who looked like staff members were moving about, and the entire property was surrounded by a dense, endless forest that stretched as far as the eye could see.“Where are we?”Lena whipped around, glaring furiously at Henry as he stroll

Lena’s hand froze mid-air, her fingertips hovering just above the clay she was about to grab. She truly had not expected Lucas to lay his feelings bare out of nowhere, and a sudden wave of heat rushed to her ears, leaving them burning. As she turned her head, she found herself staring straight into those emerald-green eyes. She had always known how captivating his gaze could be when he was serious, but facing it up close made her heart skip a beat. After just a second, she hurriedly averted her gaze, her fingers nervously picking at the edge of the workbench.“Lucas… why do you have a crush on me?” Her eyelashes fluttered as she asked in a soft voice.Lucas tilted his head slightly. “Do I need a reason for that?”Lena bit her lip. “I… I might not be the person you think I am.”“I’ve never looked at you through a rose-colored lens,” Lucas said, leaning in a little closer, his tone turning earnest. “The Lena I see secretly passes out leftover bread to the homeless at the corner of t

Henry's face drained of color. He slumped onto the floor, looking utterly defeated, as he muttered repeatedly under his breath, “Lenny, you can’t do this to me…”The windchimes by the entrance jingled once more, and Lucas pushed the door open, holding a bag of freshly baked cookies in his hand.“Lena!”He called out enthusiastically, but his voice trailed off as his eyes locked onto Henry’s bloodshot gaze. The blonde man froze for a second, his brows knitting together. “Is he bothering you again? Do you want me to throw him out?”Lena glanced down at Henry, who was still paralyzed on the floor, and then looked over at Lucas by the door. She gave Lucas a small wave, gesturing for him to come over.Confused, Lucas walked over and came to a stop. Before he could ask anything, Lena stood up from her lounge chair, walked straight up to him, and then called out, “Henry!”Henry turned his head like a lifeless doll, his eyes hollow.Lena reached out and wrapped her arm around Lucas’s,

Henry returned to his hotel room, feeling completely hollowed out. He had caught the earliest flight possible to get there. The moment his feet touched the ground, he had rushed over to find her like a madman, without even pausing to take a breather. Now, every ounce of strength felt like it had been drained from his body. Even lifting his hand felt like a monumental effort. He had no idea how to make things right with Lena, but he knew with absolute certainty that he could not lose her.As he collapsed onto the bed, an overwhelming exhaustion washed over him, and a blur of fragmented visions flashed before his eyes. In a dazed state, he drifted off into a deep sleep. In his dream, he saw the past life Lena had spoken of. He was floating in mid-air like a detached bystander, watching another version of himself make completely foreign choices. At the wedding in that past life, Ava had similarly used suicide to threaten him. His expression back then had been even colder than it was t
