INICIAR SESIÓNHillary Gate had it all: wealth, prestige, and a future mapped straight to the top of the legal world. Until everything collapsed. Her parents are sent to prison. Her education is ripped away. And one reckless night leaves her pregnant for Lester Dale, the Alpha King of the Crescent Pack. Lester is a rare and powerful breed of wolf, bound by duty and legacy, and unaware of the devastation he leaves behind. Nine years later, Hillary rises from ruin to become a renowned lawyer. Fate, or cruelty, throws her back into Lester’s path inside a courtroom. But while Hillary remembers everything, Lester remembers nothing. Drawn to her, Lester demands a secret relationship. When she refuses, he threatens to expose her secret—never realizing he is the very reason it exists. When the truth finally surfaces, will Lester fight for redemption, or power? And can Hillary forgive the man who shattered her life, especially when he holds her past, her present, and her heart in his hands?
Ver másHelpless, I fall on my knees, tears streaking my face as I watch the pack agents leaving with our belongings in boxes. Our assets are being seized and frozen by the law due to one mistake I made. The world swirls around, making me dizzy. My innocent father, Judge Gate, was arrested for bribery, corruption, and case manipulation. The nightmare is real because of me. Because I told my parents Lester was my mate.
If I hadn't met Lester four months ago at his victory party and gotten pregnant, I wouldn't have told my parents Lester was my mate. And I wouldn't have submitted to the bond if Lester hadn't been my childhood crush, which turned into love when I became a teenager and now has turned into hatred. “Hill,” Mom calls behind me, helping me to my feet. “Get up.”
“Mom…” I tear up. “I'm sorry, Mom. This is all my fau—” “Shh,” Mom interrupts in a firm voice. She faces me, holding my arms. “Don't ever say that, you hear me?”
I try to nod, but my head suddenly feels heavy with guilt. No matter how much she tries to convince me it's not my fault, it won't change the truth their misery started because of me.
“What's so wrong for my baby girl to have a mate?” Her voice thins in sadness. “Hmm?”
“None of this would have happened if Lester had kept to his promise,” I say, sniffing.
Lester strung me along with a false hope he would come for me after telling his father about our fated bond. I believed him because his father is highly feared in society.
“Well…” Mom clasps my hands weakly. “It’s obvious he's not coming. The earlier you stop waiting on him, the better.”
Mom guides me to a white couch and carefully lowers me to it. She sits next to me. “Now, you know he's not coming; it's time…” She gazes up at me, and my heart squeezes at the words she's about to spill. “You let the pregnancy go. This pregnancy is too much. I can't imagine you living the life of a rogue.”
Tears streak her face, and she wipes them away. “You…you can't do this alone. You…you can't raise a child all by yourself in a rogue village.”
Out of guilt for being the reason she's in so much pain, I struggle to nod, holding back my tears. “You’re right, Mom.”
“I'm so sorry it has come to this.” She cradles me, pressing my head to her chest and stroking my back gently. “And you don't have to get worried or scared, because Mom will be with you every step of the way.” Three police officers step into the living room through the open front door.
“May I help you?” Mom asks, forcing calm.
I stand slowly.
The handcuffs dangling from the lithe male officer’s hand make my stomach churn. “You're arrested for being your husband's accomplice,” the officer says, approaching Mom with the cuffs.
“Let me make a call, please,” Mom implores, her voice trembling.
“Mom.” My voice is shaking. With heavy steps, I trudge forward, scared.
“Officer, please,” Mom pleads again. “For the sake of my children, let me make this call.”
Hyperventilating, I ball my hands, extending them. “O…officer, take me instead, please.”
I can't live with the guilt that my parents are spending their lives in prison. My sister will never forgive me, and I won't forgive myself either. I have to be the one imprisoned. I have to.
“Stay out of this.” The female officer among them puts my fisted hands away.
“You have the right to remain silent,” the male officer recites as he reaches for Mom's wrists, cuffing them one at a time. “And anything you say can and will be used against you in court.” “Take me instead—” I cry, extending my hands the second time.
“Hey!” the female officer barks, interrupting me. With her palm flat on my chest, she pushes me backward. “Back off!”
“Sweetie.” Mom turns to me, tears shining in her eyes.
“Mom.” I'm struggling to breathe. My voice drowns in endless tears.
“Get your sister from school. Your aunt will come once she sees the news.”
“Mom.” Her name barely leaves my lips.
“Make sure you get rid of it,” she whispers before the police officers drag her away.
I stand there, helpless, shattered, until I can't take it anymore.
At exactly half past five, I entered my closet to arrange my clothes into a suitcase. Now it's twenty-eight minutes past six, and I'm still in here, sorting out what should go into the box and what shouldn't. I puff and pause for a moment to look at the mess I've made. Four more suitcases are lying on the floor, and different clothes and underwear that I decided to leave behind at the last minute are littered on the counter and on the bench.Hit by the realization I just gave myself an extra work, I fold my hands, my shoulders slouched. This is too much. And to think I'm doing all these things for a wolf that may give me cold feet when we meet only makes my shoulder slouch further, like an old she-wolf's.I still cringe when I remember how jealous he got yesterday evening. Ruling out the fact that I'm not Benjamin's mate, I doubt Benjamin would have let me pursue my career if he were Lester, who's a jealous type. Lester has a trophy wife who barely does anything and doesn't have a car
Hillary's P O VI unstraddle him before his mind could remind him we're still connected. He falls out of me, still hard. In this moment, judging from how ready he is to take me for the second time, I thought he'd stop me, but he only watches me sit next to him, my back against the headboard. And after I do, he reaches for the duvet and tucks me up to my stomach. The thoughtful gesture spreads a smile across my face.“On your terms,” he says, his voice calm, countering my thought of him parading pride after I give in to his silly offer. He adjusts left and faces me, his side resting on the headboard. “Hill. So, how'd you prefer I help?”“Find the father of Jennifer's baby.” I shrug slightly and bring the duvet to my chest, wrapping my hands across. I face him as I continue, my hand moving in a gesture. “Let's start from there, and let me make this clear: we're not pinning the case on Jennifer's ex-mate. If my client is found guilty, I'm backing off on this deal.”“I think we have a dea
My gaze falls to the immaculate marble floor that should be coated with dust. Not only is the unknown wolf making my favorite meal, but they also cleaned the living room. The mother I know won't show up in a secluded mansion she has no knowledge of unless she found out about it, but how did she get in?Curious to know the wolf who's messing with me, I dash towards the kitchen. My mouth hangs open when I see the last person I'd expect walk out of the kitchen with two plates of steak. I stop completely in my tracks, lost at her undying beauty. Her bobbed hair is in a small ponytail. The hottest part of her appearance is the white long-sleeve shirt she's in, my shirt. Though it's too big, it looks sexy on her.Hillary's setting them down when I reach the dining room.Wait. How did she know about my favorite meal?It doesn't matter. What matters is that she's here. In my shirt. In my place. She tilts her head to me, her face lights up with a smile that steals my breath. “I borrowed your s
Lester's P O V“Tyler has been released from the interrogation,” Cade says over the phone, and I sigh, sinking into the driver's seat, relieved.Tyler, my immediate junior brother, was caught next to the shaman's dead body. He got there before Cade did, making Father think Tyler had been my accomplice. Tyler wasn't capable of hurting a soul. Even a mere fly. Father knew that, yet he watched them torture his poor son in the interrogation room to have me confess who my accomplice is.“You think she…really took her life?” he asks, his voice thick in smoke.“We both know she didn't kill herself,” I say, wondering who could have done it. Father has nothing to do with the shaman's death. Probably not Derek because he was hospitalized for days. Certainly not Draven, too. He's the last wolf I could suspect, knowing he does no business with the pack, only showing up when necessary. I've never been this puzzled.“Should I look into it?” he asks, exhaling while I step out of the Jeep and head to
