The next morning, James accompanied me to shop for baby supplies.

His performance throughout was flawless. He carefully asked about the pros and cons of various products and paid for everything the salesperson recommended. The saleswoman looked at me enviously and said, "Your husband is so good to you. It's rare to see men this attentive and responsible these days."

He naturally took my hand, his thumb gently stroking the back of my hand, his eyes brimming with tenderness: "This is the child we've been hoping for so long. Of course I want to give them the best."

This display of devotion—if I hadn't heard the truth with my own ears, who would believe it was all an act?

As we walked out of the mall, we ran into Emily coming toward us.

She was wearing a well-tailored maternity dress. When she saw us, especially James holding my hand tightly, a flash of jealous hatred crossed her eyes before being deliberately replaced with smugness.

But she was alone. It seemed my "dear sister's" marriage to my former fiancé wasn't as blissful as it had appeared.

Emily approached gracefully, a forced smile on her face. Her gaze swept over the shopping bags in our hands, her tone carrying subtle provocation: "Sarah, James really spoils you. He bought you so many nice things."

Her eyes kept drifting toward James. I could sense there were secrets between them.

I looked down, my voice weak: "James, my stomach feels a bit uncomfortable. I might be tired from all the walking. I'm going to the restroom to rest for a moment. You stay here with Emily."

He frowned, instinctively wanting to follow: "I'll come with you..."

"No need," I interrupted, my voice carrying gentle insistence. "It's right inside, very close. Wait here for me, don't worry." I gently pushed away his hand, signaling him to stay.

He hesitated for a moment, studying my face, then finally nodded reluctantly: "Alright, but be careful. Call me immediately if you feel worse."

I turned around, walking somewhat unsteadily toward the nearby restroom. Once inside and out of sight, the weary expression instantly vanished from my face, replaced by cold focus. I quickly moved to a hidden corner and carefully observed through the door crack.

Sure enough, James hesitated for only a few seconds before walking quickly toward Emily, who was waiting with a pitiful expression. He pulled her away from the main mall traffic, ducking into a relatively secluded emergency exit nearby.

I silently approached, hiding behind the fire door. Their conversation came through clearly.

Emily's voice was tearful and accusatory: "James Crawford! Are you actually developing real feelings for her?"

"Emily, stop it!" James's voice was low, filled with impatience and frustration. "How could I have feelings for her? You know I'm only being good to her because of the H Corporation acquisition! I just need her final investment proposal, and at this critical moment, nothing can go wrong! Just bear with it a little longer!"

"Bear with it, bear with it! That's all you ever say!" Emily's voice suddenly rose, full of venom. "What about our child? Can you really stand to let him have nothing in the future, watching that woman's child inherit everything?"

James seemed stunned: "...The child's situation, we'll discuss later."

"Later? There is no later!" Emily's voice became aggressive. "I want your guarantee right now! I want you to sign this agreement!" The sound of papers rustling came through.

"What is this?" James's voice carried wariness.

"A stock proxy and inheritance declaration!" Emily's tone was decisive. "I want you to promise that once you get Sarah's proposal, successfully acquire H Corporation, and establish your position, the primary heir to your core assets and company control must be our child! Not the one Sarah's carrying! Sign it now!"

"Emily! Are you crazy? Here?" James's voice was full of shock and anger.

"I'm not crazy! I'm perfectly lucid!" Emily's voice carried desperate determination. "You won't sign? Fine, I'll go find Sarah right now and tell her I'm carrying your child! Let's see what she does when she knows the truth. All your plans will crumble."

"You...!" James was clearly cornered by her threat. The passage fell into silence, with only Emily's suppressed sobbing and James's heavy breathing.

A few seconds later, I heard the scratching of pen on paper.

I held my breath and quickly pulled out my phone, turning on the recording function.

Then came Emily's voice, tearful but smugly satisfied: "James, I knew you cared about me and the baby..."

James sighed wearily: "...Fine, it's signed. Are you satisfied now? Put the document away quickly, don't let anyone see it! Remember, before the acquisition is complete, you absolutely cannot provoke Sarah again, and absolutely no one can know about our child! Otherwise everything falls apart!"

"I know, I know, James..." Emily's voice softened.

Hearing the sounds of rustling clothes and whispers from inside, I silently backed away and quickly left the area.

My heart was pounding—not from nervousness, but from excitement and cold fury.

I hadn't expected that Emily was actually carrying James's child.

James. Emily.

You not only conspired to deceive me, use me, and betray me. Now you even want to steal my child's inheritance and sacrifice it to your illegitimate child?

Perfect. This document signed in your own hand—I'll take it.

I turned and walked toward the mall exit without hesitation, pulling out my phone to call the hospital, my voice eerily calm:

"Hello, it's me. Confirm that tomorrow's procedure is still scheduled as planned. I'll be there on time."

Just as I hung up, hurried footsteps came from behind.

Emily's deliberate vehicular assault with intent to murder had ironclad evidence. "There will be no mercy."The trial was swift and decisive. Emily was sentenced to fifteen years in prison for attempted murder, with no possibility of parole for the first eight years. When the verdict was read, Emily collapsed in the defendant's chair, screaming until the bailiffs had to restrain her."This isn't fair! I've lost everything! Everything! She should have died, not me!"Her voice echoed through the courtroom until the doors closed behind her. This time, she completely lost the ability to cause trouble. She could only taste the bitter fruit she had sown from behind iron

Shortly after the apology statement was published, James began trying to contact me through every possible channel. My phone buzzed constantly with calls from unknown numbers. Text messages flooded my inbox. Even Linda received calls at her office."Sarah... Miss Sterling," his voice cracked through the phone during one call I accidentally answered. "I know you don't want to see me now, but please. Just five minutes. There are things about the past, about my regret, that I need to tell you in person."His voice was raw, desperate."I need closure. We both do."I hung up without a word. The next call came an hour later."Please don't hang up," he said quickly. "I'm not asking for forgiveness. I know I don't deserve it. I just... I need you to know that everything I said in that recording, everything I did—it wasn't really me. I was lost. I was stupid. I was—""You were exactly who you are," I interrupted coldly. "Nothing more, nothing less.""That's not true. The man who fell in love wi

Within hours, the post had gone viral. #JusticeForEmily was trending. Thousands of comments poured in, most of them condemning me."What a psychopath!""Rich people are all the same—they think they can destroy anyone they want.""That poor girl and her baby!"My phone buzzed constantly with calls from reporters, friends, and business associates. When my biological parents saw the post, they were furious."This is outrageous!" Victoria was shaking with rage. "Sarah, we need to contact our PR team immediately. This kind of slander cannot be tolerated!"Alexander was already reaching for his phone."I'm calling our lawyers. We'll sue her for defamation. This ends now."But I held up my hand, stopping them both."No. Don't do anything yet."They stared at me in surprise."Sarah, we can't let this stand," Victoria protested. "She's destroying your reputation!""Is she?" I asked calmly. "Or is she destroying herself?"I set down my phone and looked at both of them."Deleting posts and suppre

The paternity test results were utterly predictable.Emily's child was not the Thornton family's bloodline. The official document, stamped and certified by the city's most prestigious medical facility, became the final nail in Emily's coffin.Richard Thornton had delivered the news personally, his voice cold as winter steel."Pack your things. You have one hour."Emily had pleaded, sobbed, even thrown herself at his feet. But the Thornton family patriarch was unmoved. Years of breeding and dignity had been insulted by her lies."Please! I can explain! The timing was confusing, I thought—""You thought nothing," Margaret Thornton had cut her off. "You calculated. You schemed. You tried to pass off another man's bastard as our grandson."The divorce papers were already drawn up. Emily's prenup ensured she'd leave with nothing but the clothes on her back and the baby in her arms. Now she stood outside the Mitchell family villa, her designer gown wrinkled, her makeup streaked with tears. Just then, James, who had been silent throughout the chaos, walked over with a complex, ever-changing expression. His face was pale, his hands trembling slightly as he clearly realized the gravity of the situation. He looked at me, his voice barely above a whisper."Sarah... I never imagined it would be like this."His eyes darted around the room, taking in the shocked faces of the guests, the Thorntons' barely contained rage, and Emily's complete breakdown."I always thought..." He paused, running a shaking hand through his hair. "I thought you were using your abilities to suppress Emily everywhere. That your parents favored you, so I felt sorry for her."His voice gained strength as he continued, as if convincing himself."I didn't know things were actually like this. I had no idea about the kidnapping, about Patricia's lies. You have to believe me, Sarah. I was deceived too."His words sounded like regret, as if he knew nothing about Emily's actions. But to my ears, it was just anot

The moment I finished speaking, my arm was violently grabbed by a strong force.Patricia's face, twisted with rage, was almost pressed against mine. Her fingernails dug into my skin through my dress sleeve."Sarah! You little bitch! Can't stand to see Emily happy?!" Her voice was so shrill it could shatter glass. "You had to come and ruin her special day?!"Spittle flew from her mouth as she screamed, landing on my cheek. The entire banquet hall fell dead silent, all eyes focused on this sudden eruption."What sins did our family commit to raise an ungrateful snake like you!" Patricia's voice cracked with fury.I could feel the guests' shocked stares boring into us. Cell phones appeared in hands, recording everything. The Thorntons' guests were getting quite a show.James immediately stepped forward, his face flushed with embarrassment. He grabbed Patricia's wrist, trying to pull her away from me."Patricia, stop! You're making a scene!" His voice carried suppressed panic. "Sarah, what
