Chapter 3

Author: Amber Fleck
I rushed over as fast as I could.

But the moment I saw what had become of my family home, my entire body began to tremble. I was so stunned that I couldn’t even get the words out.

Ethan stepped in front of me and pressed a new property deed into my hands.

"I spent all day yesterday taking Vivi house hunting, but she didn't like any of the places we saw. She kept saying your house was perfect."

I stared at him in disbelief. "So, you let her turn my home into a doghouse?"

I stumbled back two steps, and that was when I noticed the decorations.

They were for the dog's birthday party, and every single one of them had come from my canceled wedding.

For two years, I had painstakingly planned that wedding with a designer, going back and forth over every detail—the flowers, the decorations, the layout, and everything.

Now, the vision I had spent two years bringing to life stood right before me.

Only it wasn't for my wedding anymore. It was being used to celebrate a dog's birthday.

"What happened to everything in my house?" I asked.

"I had it all moved to the new place. Don't worry. I made sure everything was arranged exactly the way it was before. Vivi's pregnant now. Just give her some space."

I tightened my grip on the property deed.

Then, my phone suddenly buzzed with an incoming message.

"Sienna, I had someone expedite your paperwork. Can I come pick you up in five days?"

Now that I knew I would be able to leave in just a few days, I no longer wanted to waste my breath arguing with Ethan. I turned and walked away.

But Vivian suddenly appeared, carrying her dog in her arms.

"Sienna, what did you get my dog for his birthday?"

Seeing the smug smile on her face, I slowly slipped the wedding ring from my finger.

"You've always wanted this, haven't you? Take it."

She clearly hadn't expected me to give it up so easily. For a moment, she simply stared at me in surprise. Then, her gaze shifted to the pendant I always wore around my neck.

"I want that one, too."

My fingers instinctively closed around the pendant.

"No. Not this."

My parents had made this pendant for me before I was even born. They had spent days learning from a blacksmith so they could make it themselves.

Its value had nothing to do with money. To me, it was irreplaceable.

Ethan came over when he heard the commotion. "What's going on?"

Vivian pouted. "Sienna would rather give her wedding ring to a dog than give me her pendant. What's so special about it? Why can't I have it, too?"

Ethan's expression darkened instantly. "You gave the wedding ring to a dog? Sienna, you've really outdone yourself."

Before I could say a word, he reached out and yanked the pendant from my neck. The cord snapped from the force, scraping the back of my neck and leaving a painful cut.

I cried out in pain, but my voice was quickly drowned out by Vivian's scream.

The pendant had been bent by Ethan's forceful pull, and one of its sharp edges had cut Vivian's finger. She held up her injured finger and burst into tears.

"Sienna, if you didn't want to give it to me, you could've just said so. You didn't have to ruin it!"

Then, she collapsed.

Ethan immediately turned on me. "You knew Vivi was anemic, and you still did something like this! She's pregnant, too. How could you be so cruel?"

He blamed me for everything without even thinking it through.

Then, he dragged me to the hospital and forced me into the room where blood was being drawn.

The doctor in charge was the same one who had treated me before. She hesitated when she saw me.

"This woman just had a miscarriage—"

"Draw her blood!" Ethan snapped.

"She caused Vivi to lose blood and pass out. She needs to take responsibility!"

The doctor fell silent.

One bag after another was drawn from me. With each bag, the color drained further from my face. My hands grew cold, and my body felt weaker by the minute.

A flicker of hesitation crossed Ethan's face as he watched me.

"That's enough."

He opened his hand. His palm contained my carefully repaired pendant and my wedding ring.

"Even if you were angry, you shouldn't have given away our wedding ring."

He took my hand and carefully slipped the ring back onto my finger. Then, he gently fastened the pendant around my neck.

When his fingers brushed the wound on the back of my neck, he sighed. "Does it hurt?"

He had just picked up a bottle of antiseptic when Vivian's soft, plaintive voice drifted in from outside. "Honey, where are you? I'm all alone and scared."

Ethan immediately froze.

"You should go."

I took the antiseptic from his hand without looking at him.

"Once Vivi falls asleep, I'll take you out for something good to eat."

I nodded. But deep down, I already knew he wouldn't be coming back.

I went home alone and quietly packed the things I planned to take with me.

For the next five days, Ethan didn't come home once.

Vivian never missed a chance to flaunt their life together in front of me. Photos of meals Ethan had personally cooked for her. Fireworks he had arranged just for her. The two of them kissing by the ocean. Praying together at a church.

She practically radiated smugness.

"So what if you're his wife? All his tenderness and affection belong to me.

"If you know what's good for you, step aside while you still can. You can't beat me, especially now that I'm carrying his child."

I stared blankly at the screen before turning it off.

I couldn't help wondering what her expression would be when she finally realized that becoming Ethan's wife meant sharing his love with two other women—dividing his attention among three mistresses and watching him give pieces of himself to each of them.

At last, the day I had been waiting for arrived.

I dragged my suitcase through the airport.

"Sienna."

I froze at the sound of my name.

I turned around, and the next second, everything went black.

On the day of the wedding, the moment the lights fell on me, my eyes met Ethan's across the room. "Sienna!" he shouted. "Sienna, you didn't choose this, did you?"His eyes were bloodshot, but Evelyn quickly clamped a hand over his mouth, stopping him from saying anything more.Adrian stepped forward at just the right moment, blocking my view of Ethan. Then, he held out his hand to me.I slipped my arm through his, and together, we made our way around the room, toasting our guests. The same people who had once mocked me suddenly changed their tune. One after another, they showered Adrian with compliments for marrying me. "Mr. Caldwell, you're a lucky man to have such a wonderful wife."When we reached the table where his family was seated, Ethan looked as though he could barely contain his rage. "Adrian, have you no shame? You took advantage of her when she was vulnerable and stole my wife from me! You'll get what's coming to you!" "Ethan!" Evelyn snapped, cutting him off.

Meanwhile, I took a deep breath and pulled back the curtain in front of me. A look of awe flashed across Adrian's face. He rose from the couch without even realizing it. "Sienna, you look absolutely beautiful."He took my hand and gently led me toward the mirror. "I never imagined you'd look this beautiful in a wedding dress. I'm glad I get to see you like this with my own eyes today."I stared at my reflection, suddenly feeling shy. I was so nervous that a faint blush crept across my cheeks. But the next moment, my eyes began to sting. For the past two years, I had imagined countless times what Ethan's expression would be when I finally stepped out from behind the curtain in a wedding dress. But he had never been there. Not even once. He always had time for Lydia, accompanying her on one extreme adventure after another. He had time to throw elaborate birthday parties for Vivian—even for her dog. He had time to travel the world with Jennifer. Yet when it came to me,

The stew in Ethan's hands nearly spilled. He had barely steadied himself when Vivian rushed into his arms with a coy smile. "Ethan, what took you so long?" Ethan immediately pushed her away."What are you doing here?" he demanded. Then, it all came rushing back to him. To celebrate Vivian's dog's third birthday, he had allowed her to turn my home into a playground for the dog. "Take all of this down." He turned to Walter, his jaw clenched. "Move all of my wife's belongings back in. Restore the villa exactly the way it was before. I want it done today.""Ethan, what's the point of all this?" Vivian stepped in front of him, one hand resting protectively over her belly. "You've been acting so strange lately. You stopped replying to my messages, and now you're suddenly saying all this!"She narrowed her eyes. "What happened while you were gone? Did that old hag somehow get into your head?" Ethan couldn't be bothered to argue with her. His gaze dropped to her pregnant bell

"A miscarriage?" Ethan froze. He had to grip the reception desk to keep his legs from giving out. Suddenly, he remembered the blood pooling beneath me after I was knocked down at the ski resort. He had always assumed I had prepared a blood pack beforehand to make the whole thing look convincing. "Mr. Caldwell, we checked several other hospitals as well. There's no record of Mrs. Caldwell receiving treatment at any of them," Walter reported.Seeing Ethan's face darken, Walter quickly added, "Mr. Caldwell, try to think of the best-case scenario. Maybe Mrs. Caldwell wasn't hurt at all."The thought eased some of the pressure in Ethan's chest. "Prepare 999 lychee roses and have them delivered to Mrs. Caldwell's villa."After giving the order, Ethan grabbed his keys and rushed home. "I want you to teach me how to make my wife's favorite stew." The chef respectfully rose to his feet. "Yes, sir. Would that be Ms. Bennett's favorite, Ms. Sinclair's, or Ms. Harrington's?"Ethan'

Walter didn't dare meet Ethan's eyes. Instead, he silently handed over a stack of photographs. They were candid shots taken by various media outlets after everyone had come down from the rooftop that day. Ethan had paid a fortune to suppress the photos and keep the incident out of the news. The more he looked through the photographs, the darker his expression became. Not one of them showed me. Suddenly, he hurled the photographs at Walter. "Maybe she just didn't come down with us!"Walter swallowed nervously. "We checked the security footage, too. There's no record of Ms. Whitmore leaving the building in the 72 hours following the incident…" His voice grew shakier with every word. "There's only one exit, and it's under constant surveillance. There's no way Ms. Whitmore could have left without appearing on camera, unless…" "Unless what?" Walter hesitated before forcing out, "Unless Ms. Whitmore never made it down from the rooftop…" Ethan felt as though something inside hi

When I woke up, I found myself on a rooftop with Jennifer restraining me, her face twisted with rage."Sienna Whitmore, did you really think getting pregnant would be enough to win Ethan back? Today, I'm going to make sure you see who really matters to him!"Only then did I remember that yesterday was supposed to be the day Ethan took Jennifer to Derbin Isle to see the Northern Lights. But Vivian had stopped him from going, and Jennifer had mistakenly blamed me for interfering. The wind howled around us, nearly knocking me off balance. "Let me go!"I struggled against Jennifer's grip, but then, I felt something cold press against my neck."Jennifer!"Ethan rushed onto the rooftop with several people close behind him. The moment he saw what was happening, the color drained from his face. "Jennifer, you need to calm down," he pleaded. "Don't come any closer!"Jennifer pressed the blade against my neck, and I flinched at the sharp sting."Ethan, you told me I was the woma
