Chapter 3

Author: Golden Cicada
The door was ajar. I saw Ted’s arm around Clara’s shoulder. He was smiling as he leaned in and kissed Clara.

Clara wrapped her arms around his neck and returned his kisses passionately.

I stood outside of the door and tortured myself by watching.

When I no longer had the strength to stand upright, I collapsed onto the floor.

I heard some noises coming from the kitchen, so I turned to look.

I saw Jared, who was only seven years old, standing on a stool and clumsily stirring the pot.

Since I was afraid that he would hurt himself, I walked over.

He was mumbling to himself, “Daddy doesn’t like coriander and onion…”

He took the pot off the stove as if he was an adult. I felt my heart soften at that sight.

However, when he turned around and saw me, his face immediately fell.

“Why are you here? You’re a jerk!”

Upon hearing that, I suddenly came to my senses. He had been referring to Ted earlier when he mentioned the word “Daddy”.

My lips quivered.

“Jared, I’m your father. How can you…”

“You’re not my dad!” Jared refuted loudly.

He pushed me away. Then, he took the soup he had just made to Ted.

I stumbled after Jared pushed me and hit my spine against the corner of the cabinet. It was extremely painful.

I went back to Ted’s bedroom.

Jared was blowing on the hot soup before serving it to Ted.

Ted smiled and praised him. Clara hugged Jared and teased him, “Jared, you care about Daddy more than Julia.”

I stood at the door and watched the scene unfolding before me.

They were so happy, as if they were a true family.

Tears welled up in my eyes as I turned around and left.

The next morning, Clara woke me up.

She had the habit of giving me a morning kiss.

However, I dodged her attempts.

She was stunned. Then, she held my hand and brought me to the dining room.

However, there was no seat for me at the table.

Ted sat in my original seat and smiled at me.

Clara awkwardly nudged me to sit in her place.

“I’m sorry…” The nanny, Amy Reid, spoke carefully.

“I didn’t prepare Mr. Anderson’s meal…”

Upon hearing that, everyone was stunned.

George asked in confusion, “Did Ted not tell you?”

Ted slapped his forehead.

“I slept too late last night, so I didn’t wake up on time this morning. I forgot to tell Amy about it…

“Let Blake have my breakfast then…”

Nancy stopped Ted.

“Sit down.”

George also disagreed.

“You should eat your breakfast. You’re skinny enough.”

It was as if I was a ghost. I watched the happy family before me as I clenched my fists.

George sighed and told Amy to make another breakfast before holding my hand and telling me about the party.

“You finally woke up from your coma, so we plan to throw you a party to celebrate that. I’ll get Clara to take you to get ready in a bit.”

I freed my hand inconspicuously and nodded.

I stared at George and started thinking if I should still remain there.

During the party, George brought Ted around to greet all his family and friends.

I wanted to walk over, yet Nancy stopped me.

Nancy shot a glance at me.

“George is introducing Ted to everyone as his successor, so you shouldn’t go over. We’ll leave our shares to you, and you’ll receive the dividends.”

I was stunned as I asked subconsciously, “Didn’t you tell me that I would be…?”

“That’s all in the past.”

Nancy held my hand as though she was afraid that I would throw a tantrum. “Be good.”

I was brought to the corner in a daze.

My attention was caught by a passing figure. It was Clara.

“Clara, say something! This must be a misunderstanding…”Clara pushed him aside. Ted fell off the bed. He sprawled on the floor with cold sweat covering his forehead. Clara looked down and sounded cold. “When I brought you back, I told you that you’re just a stand-in for Blake. How dare you treat him like that?” After she said that, she kicked a chair and slapped herself furiously. Ted swept his gaze across the room. When he saw that no one was on his side, he suddenly guffawed. “Stand-in?“All of you still pushed Blake to his death because of me, a fake!” His chest heaved as he pointed at everyone. “Do you think you’re the good guys? While you’re blaming me, why don’t you take a good look at yourselves? If you didn’t allow me to do so, how would I kill him?”Everyone was silent. George yelled impatiently, “Enough! If you want to argue, go out!” When Nancy heard that, she was furious. “How about you shut up? It’s all your fault for enabling him!” Upon heari

The doctor did not manage to save me. They wheeled my dead body out. I saw Nancy wail and throw herself onto my dead body. George started vomiting as he found my mangled corpse disgusting. Clara collapsed onto the floor with tears streaming down her cheeks. I watched George slap himself quietly. Nancy almost passed out from crying. She grabbed my hands and kept apologizing. However, she did not receive any response. At the same time, I heard the system’s voice as I floated mid-air. ‘You’ve successfully redeemed a chance to reveal the truth. Are you going to use it now?’ As a floating soul, I could not cry.I just nodded tiredly. The next second, Nancy’s phone buzzed. She received a zip file. When she opened it numbly, she saw the scene where Ted had accused me of pushing him down the stairs. The video started playing from her phone, and everyone gathered around Nancy. Clara’s eyes widened as she replayed the video. She watched it over and over again in di

Before I could ask any question, the system spoke up in my head, ‘It’s coming. ‘Host, I’ll help to eliminate the pain for you. You just have to do as I say.’Just when the system had said that, a car sped over. I saw through the car window that it was Jack again. He had returned to attempt to kill me one more time!I did not attempt to run. I watched as he sped toward me. After that, I was thrown into the air and landed with a thud. As I lay on the ground, blood kept oozing out of my mouth. The system blocked my pain receptors, but I could still taste the metallic taste of blood in my mouth. It was nauseating. To make sure I was really dead, Jack wanted to run over me again. The system reminded me. ‘Host, get up and run forward.’I did not understand. However, I still forced myself to stand up and drag my legs forward as I ran. A bright light shone on me. Immediately after, I was run over again. When Jack saw that, he quickly turned around and left. Blo

When Ted said that, George immediately asked how it had happened. However, no one knew. Jared pointed at me and started sobbing. “It’s him. He told me that as long as I jump into the lake, I’ll get Daddy’s attention…”I was stunned and stared at Jared incredulously. His cries seemed authentic, and it did not look like he was lying. I subconsciously denied that. “I didn’t… What are you talking about, Jared?”Ted hugged him lovingly. The watch that once belonged to me was on his wrist. “Jared, don’t worry, of course Daddy loves you. Don’t act this rashly next time. What if something bad happens to you?”George was touched by how anxious Ted looked. In contrast, I appeared to be unreasonable. George walked over and slapped me fiercely. “He would even fake a car accident in disregard of his own life. Do you think he would care about his son?”Then, he threw a huge stack of receipts at me. He was furious. “Blake, did your parents teach you how to create drama? To

The automatic alarm system also helped me call the emergency services. When I woke up, Nancy was holding my hand with tears streaming down her cheeks. “Blake, why did you scare me like this…“I thought you’d never wake up.”She sobbed, yet I felt nothing. I freed my hand and looked at Clara, who stood next to my bed. “Don’t you want a divorce?”She did not dare to look me in the eyes. She turned her head and said, “I have already done you wrong. I can’t do Ted wrong either.” When I heard that, I laughed. ‘System, I’ve decided how I want to leave this world.‘I want them to kill me.’Back then, I had tried so hard to come back to that world to meet people who had already long forgotten me. I found the whole scenario hilarious. If that was the case, I could have just not returned!I did not answer Clara’s comment on divorce. However, she tucked my hand under the blanket and comforted me, “I’m sorry, Blake. Let’s only get a divorce after you recover.” Then, she lef

The system replied very quickly, “Alright, but I’ll have to arrange an accident for you in order for you to return to the quest world.“It’ll take some time.” I nodded and staggered to my feet. Suddenly, my vision went black. I held my head and passed out immediately. When I woke up again, I was already in the guest bedroom. The plan for me to move to the bedroom on the third floor was pushed back because of Ted. After he fell, he became very weak. George sat on the couch and stared at me with a darkened expression. “I’m going to let Ted stay on the third floor. Nancy and I have bought a house for you. You should pack your stuff and move over.” Upon hearing that, I smiled pitifully. “George, are you asking me to leave?”George’s face turned pale upon hearing that. A hint of guilt flashed in his eyes. However, very quickly, he thought of Ted, who was recovering. “You can move back after Ted recovers.” George looked at my ghastly expression. “Ted… has slep
