Chapter 3

Penulis: Pink Candy
The next evening, Luca’s friends organized a gathering, supposedly the last bachelor party before the wedding.

The location was a private club in the south of the city.

I didn’t want to go.

Luca stood at the entrance of the walk-in closet and brought me a coat.

“Chloe, everyone’s waiting. Just accompany me this once, okay?”

I glanced at him and eventually went out.

After all, only one day remained.

When we arrived at the private room, Luca’s friends were already drinking.

Vera sat beside the main seat in a light-blue slip dress, the pearl hair clip Luca had given her pinned in her hair.

Seeing Luca, she immediately smiled and waved.

“Luca, over here!”

Luca walked over naturally and sat beside her.

I stood for two seconds, then sat on his other side.

One of Luca’s friends, Victor, raised his glass and laughed as he teased.

“Luca, the wedding is almost here. After this you won’t be able to come out drinking with us every day like now.”

Everyone laughed.

Vera propped her chin on her hand and deliberately sighed.

“That’s not necessarily true. What if after he gets married he still thinks accompanying me is more important?”

Luca laughed and tapped her forehead.

“Stop talking nonsense.”

Though he said that, there wasn’t the slightest displeasure in him.

After several rounds of drinks, Victor suddenly remembered something and slapped the table.

“Right, Luca, where’s that wedding ring of yours? Take it out and show us!”

Luca took a black velvet box from the inner pocket of his suit.

The box opened to reveal a platinum ring set with a diamond.

I recognized it at a glance.

This too was one he had designed himself.

He had said that a Moretti man would place a wedding ring on only one woman in his lifetime.

At that time he had held my hand and said seriously,

“Chloe, on the wedding day, I’ll put it on you myself.”

Yet at this moment, Vera suddenly reached out.

“Let me see! I’ve never seen such a beautiful ring.”

Luca handed the box over.

Vera took the ring, examined it under the light, then suddenly smiled: “It’s really beautiful. Luca, can I try it on?”

I just looked up.

But Luca had already nodded.

Vera giggled as she slipped the ring onto her ring finger.

The size happened to fit perfectly.

She paused, then raised her hand for everyone to see.

“Oh my god, it’s actually this perfect!”

Victor whistled.

“This is too much of a coincidence, isn’t it? If people didn’t know better, they’d think this was prepared for Vera.”

The table erupted in laughter.

Luca laughed along with them.

Only I remained silent.

Vera lowered her head to admire the ring, then suddenly frowned.

“Oh no, it seems stuck.”

She pulled hard outward, but the ring didn’t budge.

Luca immediately took her hand.

“Don’t move. Let me see.”

He lowered his head and carefully turned the ring for her, afraid of hurting her.

After a long struggle, the ring finally came off.

Vera let out a long breath. Just as she was about to put it back in the box, her fingers slipped.

The ring landed on the edge of the table, bounced once, and fell straight into the adjacent swimming pool.

A splash.

Everyone froze.

The next second, Luca abruptly stood up. Without even taking off his suit jacket, he jumped straight into the pool.

“Drain the water! Find it immediately!”

Somehow a piece of glass cut the back of his hand; blood quickly seeped out.

Vera’s eyes turned red with fright.

“I’m sorry, Luca. I didn’t mean to…”

Luca didn’t even turn his head.

“It’s fine. It’s not your fault.”

He ordered the bodyguards to drain the pool.

I sat in place and watched the ring he had treasured for five years finally be fished out of the water.

The band had been deformed by pressure, and several scratches marked its surface.

Luca took the ring, his brows tightly furrowed.

Vera looked at me with red eyes.

“Chloe, I’m sorry. It’s all my fault. I really didn’t mean it. How about I compensate you with a new one?”

She reached out as if to take my hand.

I avoided it.

“It’s fine.”

Only then did Luca look at me, seemingly surprised by my calmness.

“Chloe, Vera didn’t mean it either. The ring can be repaired. It won’t affect the wedding. We can get different rings.”

I looked at the ring in his hand and didn’t continue the conversation.

He thought I was still angry, and a trace of impatience entered his tone.

“There’s no need for you to keep dwelling on this. Vera has already apologized. What more do you want?”

I suddenly smiled.

“I don’t want anything.”

I had simply finally understood that even when something was ruined, he would only blame me for not being tolerant enough.

Just then, Vera suddenly clutched her stomach, her face turning pale.

“Luca, I feel a bit unwell…”

Luca immediately set the ring down and supported her shoulders.

“Where does it hurt? Is it because you drank?”

“Maybe.”

“I’ll take you to the hospital.”

He turned and instructed the bodyguards. Without even taking his coat, he supported Vera and headed out.

As he passed me, his steps paused slightly.

“Chloe, you stay and eat with them first. I’ll come back after handling Vera’s matter.”

I didn’t answer.

After the private room door closed, Victor awkwardly rubbed his nose.

“Chloe, Luca just values his childhood sweetheart too much. Don’t take it to heart.”

I picked up my bag.

“I’m not taking it to heart.”

That was true.

After all, I no longer planned to marry him.

I had simply underestimated Luca’s persistence.I thought that after speaking so clearly yesterday, he had given up pestering me.Yet the next morning, the moment I pushed open the apartment door, I saw him standing at the end of the hallway. He wore the same black suit as yesterday, with obvious dark circles under his eyes, and held breakfast in his hands. He held the breakfast out to me, his tone extremely careful.“I didn’t know what you like to eat, so I had several kinds prepared. I also found the dessert shop you used to like best.”I didn’t take it.“Luca, didn’t I make myself clear enough yesterday?”His hand stiffened in midair.“I know you’re still angry with me.”“I’m not angry.”I looked at him and said word by word.“I simply no longer want any relationship with you.”He seemed not to understand and still stubbornly pushed the breakfast forward.“Then we can start over. If you don’t want to return to Sicily, I’ll stay in Boston. If you don’t want to see me, I can wait. As

“What are you doing here?”Luca’s hand holding the roses tightened slightly. He probably hadn’t expected that the first words I would say upon seeing him would be these.“Chloe, I’ve come to take you home.”As he spoke, he pushed the bouquet a little farther forward.“I’ve been looking for you for three whole months. Sicily, New York, London—I’ve searched almost every place you might have gone.”I didn’t take the flowers.“So what?”Luca’s face went pale for an instant. The next second, he suddenly knelt on one knee in front of me.A wave of gasps immediately rose around us.He took a diamond ring from his pocket and held it up before me.“Chloe, marry me.”His voice was a little hoarse.“I know I’ve done many things wrong. I shouldn’t have disappointed you again and again, and I especially shouldn’t have abandoned you on our wedding day. But I swear, something like this will never happen again.”He looked up at me, his eyes full of pleading.“Let’s hold the wedding again, okay? Wherev

Chloe PovBy the third month in Boston, I had gradually adapted to life here.A new apartment, a new job, and days when I no longer had to constantly wait for someone’s messages.I worked as a product researcher at an artificial intelligence technology company, mainly responsible for user experience testing of the emotional interaction system. The work was busy, but fulfilling in just the right way.At least I no longer had to temporarily change my own plans for anyone.“Good morning, Chloe.”As soon as I walked into the office, a cup of hot coffee was handed to me.I looked up and met Xavier’s smiling eyes.“Oat milk latte, no sugar.” He raised his brows. “I remembered correctly, right?”I took the coffee and smiled.“If one day you remember my project data this clearly, I’ll give you an award.”“That strict?” He sighed in mock disappointment. “Looks like one cup of coffee isn’t enough to impress Miss White.”“Then what else do you want?”“At least a chance to have dinner together.”H

Luca PovBy the time I returned to the estate, it was already dark. The butler heard the movement and immediately came to greet me.“Sir, you’re back.”I took off my coat and scanned the empty living room.“Where is Chloe?”The butler paused.“Miss White left early this morning.”My steps halted.“Left? Where did she go?”“This… I’m not sure. Miss White only took her own luggage and had the driver take her to the airport.”I abruptly turned.“Why didn’t anyone tell me?”The butler lowered his head, not daring to speak.I strode up to the second floor and pushed open the bedroom door.In the walk-in closet, more than half of Chloe’s clothes were gone. The dressing table was empty; the drawers that had once been filled with skincare products had been cleaned out completely. On the nightstand, the wristwatch she had given me was still there.I picked it up and discovered a note underneath. On it was only one short sentence.【Luca, this is the end for us.】My fingers suddenly tightened.“S

Luca PovThe ring in my hand fell to the ground as I abruptly looked at the planner.“What did you say?”The planner’s face turned white with fear.“Mr. Moretti, Miss White canceled the wedding four days ago. All arrangements have already been terminated.”“Impossible!”I interrupted her sharply.Chloe had waited for me for five years. She had said that marrying me was her greatest dream.I refused to believe she would abandon me.The planner trembled as she took out her phone and handed me the cancellation notice Chloe had sent. After reading the message, I immediately dialed her number.Powered off.I dialed again—still the same.“Find out where she is!”I turned and ordered my assistant.Ten minutes later the assistant hurried over.“Sir, the last place Miss White appeared was the airport. After that there’s no news.”“Check all flights and ports. Mobilize the family’s people. No matter what, find her!”I clenched my phone and turned to look at the empty ceremonial platform.Just th

On the morning of the wedding day, Luca put on his suit early. When he pushed open the bedroom door, I was still in my pajamas, just having gotten up.He paused.“Chloe, why haven’t you changed into the wedding dress yet?”I looked up at him and lied:“I’ll put it on in a bit.”Luca walked over smiling.“I almost thought you didn’t want to marry me.”He bent to kiss my forehead, but I turned my head aside. His movement paused slightly, yet he didn’t press the matter, treating it as pre-wedding nerves.“All right, stop throwing a tantrum. After the ceremony, I’ll take you on our honeymoon. Haven’t you always wanted to go to Paris? This time we’ll stay a few extra days.”I looked at him and softly answered,“Okay.”He seemed a little surprised by my reaction. In the past, whenever he mentioned our wedding, I couldn’t help smiling and pulling him into discussions about where to go after the ceremony and what kind of hotel to stay in for the honeymoon. But today, even looking at him more f
