Chapter 4

Autor: Sandoo
Chuck choked.

I crouched until I was at the same eye level as he was. "Stop lying, Chuck. It's not a good color on you. I'll give you three days to sign the papers, or I'll share those pictures with your investors and your company employees. I won't forget to give your mother a copy too. I want to show everyone how a self-professed DINK like you can be a 'wonderful father' behind everyone's back."

Chuck trembled violently, looking to be in despair. He did not sign the papers in the end, but started to put up a 'performance'. He started coming home on time to cook for me and to wash and massage my feet.

He gave me all his cards and car keys and told me that I would be in charge of the family assets. Chuck called Candice in front of me to say the most hurtful things to break up with her, and to warn her not to see him again. I could hear her sobbing hysterically over the phone, but Chuck refused to budge.

After hanging up, he expressed his loyalty to me right away, "Look, honey, I've really broken up with her. Can we not get divorced?"

If I had not installed a small GPS device inside his car and found out he had parked at another high-end district for two hours every afternoon, I would have believed him. That area was where Candice and Edwin lived.

Chuck was two-timing us and enjoying the best of both worlds. I was the money-maker, while Candice was the love of his life.

My mother-in-law eventually joined the battle. She started by calling me three times a day, berating me for not knowing what was good for me. She lectured me about how I should count myself lucky that my man was willing to come back to my side, and questioned me about what more I wanted.

When she realized that threats were not working, she started to play the emotional card by talking about the past and claiming that she had always treated me like her daughter. However, I ignored everything she said.

On the third day, Chuck went all out. He planned a grand dinner with the investors at our home, and he invited almost every renowned figure in the city. He wanted to put up a great show of how loving we were as husband and wife, and use the opportunity to force me into submission.

He looked at me with tears in his eyes, "Honey, please help me just this once. All I ask is one chance tonight. You can do anything you want after this. This investment is really important to our family and me!"

I looked at him and suddenly smiled. "Sure."

Chuck was delighted.

I looked at myself in the mirror. My makeup was exquisite, and I was dressed in an attention-grabbing, bright red dress with a trailing skirt. Since Chuck enjoyed putting up a show so much, I decided to give him a show to remember.

The guests arrived in troves that night. Chuck was in a haute couture suite, and he looked to be in high spirits with his arm around mine. He greeted every guest in attendance and played the part of the perfect husband. "This is my wife, Willow. She's a food critic, and I wouldn't be where I am today without her."

He described me as someone irreplaceable in his life, and I smiled graciously as everyone looked enviously at me.

After mingling with the guests and clinking glasses with everyone he met, Chuck walked up a stage temporarily set up for the event, and he started a passionate speech about the trials and tribulations of starting his career. He talked about the company's future blueprint and what it was like to be a strong and responsible family man.

"Behind every successful man is a great family. I'm lucky enough to have the best wife in the world, and we made a promise to spend the rest of our lives as DINKs and create an exciting world with only each other."

Everyone applauded, and I raised my glass while looking at him with a wide smile.

Once the speech was over, the lights dimmed, and the main course was served.

I had arranged for the pastry chef to create a huge cake for the event, and he wheeled the cake into the party venue. Everyone thought the cake was part of the party, and Chuck's expression changed when he saw the figurines on top.

It was a man, a woman, and a little boy. The little boy's figurine was created in the image of Chuck, and they looked very similar.

Before the guests realized this, there was a commotion at the door. I smiled when I saw who had arrived, and wondered what Chuck would do.

  • I Chose Divorce After His Surgery   Chapter 10

I did not end up in a relationship with Jenna's son, but we did become close business partners. His name was Carl Turbin, and he was a young man who had acute business sense and a global perspective. The first time we met, he gave more than a dozen suggestions on how to operate my private kitchen even more efficiently."Your cooking is like art, Willow, but when it comes to business, you need standard practices and operating procedures. We can duplicate this art and introduce it to the world."His words ignited a fire within me that I thought had been extinguished. When we first started working together, we argued almost every day. He would stand in my kitchen with a stopwatch to calculate how long it took for a dish to be served, and he would insist every piece of meat was precisely the same thickness. As for me, I would dump all of his standard operating procedure documents into the garbage bin and insist that every dish has to be based on the chef's inspiration and emotions."

Since then, Chuck never came to see me again. I found out from Jenna that he had left the city with his mother. No one knew where he went. He was like dust that vanished into the vast sea, and my life returned to normal. My private kitchen business started to boom as word got around. Many people came not only for the good food, but also to hear the story of the legendary owner of the private kitchen. I did not hide my past because, despite the pain, it helped me to grow. I was the only one who could give myself a sense of security. A year later, I received a stranger's call while trying out a new dish. "Hello, is this Miss Lyon? There's a man called Chuck Jameson with us. Something happened to him, and we're calling you because you're his emergency contact."My heart sank. Chuck was dead, and the ten years we were together got buried with him. When I arrived at the police station, the police told me about his death. Chuck had returned to what he did best to pay his debts. He

After Jenna left, I sat alone in the empty garden to watch the sunset. That was when my phone suddenly rang. It was an unknown number, but somehow I knew that it was him calling. I picked up the call, and a familiar yet strange voice spoke, "Willow…" It was Chuck. His voice was hoarse, tired, and contained a tinge of despair that sounded like life had worn him down. "C.. Can I come see you?" I was silent for a moment. "All right. Come to my private kitchen tomorrow at noon." Chuck appeared in front of my private kitchen doors on time the next day. He had lost weight and looked darker. He was wearing a white t-shirt that looked like it had been washed too many times, and his hair was in a mess; the bright look in his eyes was long gone.He stood at the door, looking flustered, and hesitated on whether to enter.I opened the door. "Come in."Chuck walked into the garden and looked around at the tasteful design. There was a complicated look in his eyes. "You… You've done well fo

I hired someone to investigate Candice, and it turned out this woman had a past more complicated than I had imagined.Candice was not a frail, pitiful woman waiting to be saved. She was a conwoman who targeted men. Before she met Chuck, she had been dating several men simultaneously, and Edwin's biological father was a wealthy businessman with whom she had been involved. She had used her son to get close to Chuck because he was rich and had potential, and she was looking for something long-term.Chuck was too smart for his own good and thought he had everything under control, but he had no idea that he had been bringing up another man's son. I delivered the paternity test result anonymously to Chuck, who was in a horrible fix because of his debts. I wanted him to know that the so-called family he had given up everything and betrayed me for was nothing but a joke from the very start. I wanted him beaten to the ground. When Chuck received the report, he went crazy and dashed to Candi

Chuck finally broke down. He dashed down the stage and tried to grab me. "How dare you, Willow!"Henry's bodyguards stopped him, and he looked at Chuck coldly. "I think there's no need to discuss any further business between us, Mr. Jameson." Henry turned to me and nodded, and he left with his people without looking back.Once the main investor left, every other potential investor started to give excuses to leave the party as well. This party was supposed to be Chuck's journey to the peak, but it had ended up becoming a circus show. Chuck fell limply to the ground in despair. My mother-in-law was stunned when she saw everyone leaving the party. She had never expected things to turn out this way. Even Candice was flustered. She tugged on my mother-in-law's sleeve. "Mrs. Jameson, I…" It only annoyed my mother-in-law as she pushed Candice aside. "Stop calling me that! This is all your fault, you jinx!"The show was about to begin as they started turning against each other. I appr

My mother-in-law walked in with a pregnant Candice. Candice was crying pitifully, while my mother-in-law looked angry, yet there was a glint of glee in her eyes. She cleared her throat and spoke in a voice loud enough for everyone by shouting at Chuck, who was on the stage. "Chuck, you got another woman to give you children because your wife can't. Now that she's pregnant, you need to do something about it!" Everyone turned silent. They turned to look at Chuck, who froze on stage. He had gone completely pale, while I stood in the crowd, gently swishing my wine glass as I admired how he was about to meet his downfall. My mother-in-law was a crucial part of my plan. When I found out Chuck had transferred part of his assets and was about to have a second child, I knew that getting a divorce was not enough to punish someone like that. I needed someone on the inside who could throw him off his feet and render him helpless to retaliate. She was the best woman for the job, as my mother-in
