Chapter 2

Author: Ninepaw
“I’m going to beat your—”

Jason was enraged and wanted to pick a fight with me. As he rushed over, I kicked him straight to the ground.

He got up to try again, but a traffic cop rushed over and stopped him.

“Stop it, or I’m taking both of you with me to the station!”

“Officer, this broke loser hit my car and attacked me. Hurry up and arrest him!” Jason complained to the cop while pointing at me with one hand and gripping his waist with the other.

The cop ignored his nonsensical accusations and asked us both for the footage from our dashcams.

I pulled up the footage on my phone and showed it to the cop.

The officer watched carefully. After finishing, he turned sharply to Jason. “It’s clearly entirely your fault. How dare you shamelessly demand payment?

“You’d better settle compensation quickly with the owner of the vehicle, or we’ll charge you with reckless driving and take you into the station.”

“Do you cops even know how to judge the situation? Take a good look. I drive a Valterra, and my wife is someone important. You can’t afford to mess with—”

“I don’t care what car you drive or who your wife is. Our job is to enforce the law. This is your warning. If you keep refusing the penalty, we’ll take you straight to the station.”

Jason grumbled angrily at first, but after seeing the cop’s strict face, he no longer dared to go against the cop and opted to call for help.

I glanced at his phone screen and saw that the person he was dialing was indeed my wife, Amy Parker.

Though I could not hear their conversation, his playful tone, mischievous expression, and endearing nickname for the person on the other line told me they were not just solving the issue; they were flirting, too.

Jason hung up and looked spirited again after the call. He arrogantly pointed at his car. “Fine. I’ll pay you! What’s the big deal?

“I bought insurance worth three million for this Valterra—more than enough to cover your junk Nimgo. You won’t be shortchanged even a single cent, you broke loser!”

I sneered. That insurance would not come close to paying for my limited-edition Nimgo. Besides, his reckless driving was outside the coverage of the insurance.

Today, I was determined to force these cheating idiots to show their true colors.

The insurance agent soon arrived. He probably knew about cars, as he turned pale the moment he recognized my Nimgo.

After reading Jason’s accident report, he finally sighed with relief. “Sir, this accident was caused by your aggressive driving. It’s outside our coverage. Please handle compensation with the other party yourself. Thank you.”

Jason exploded the instant he heard that he had to pay himself and yelled at the agent, “What kind of worthless insurance is this? If you don’t pay out after an accident, aren’t you swindling the people who bought insurance?”

The agent did not bother arguing and left quickly.

“So, are you paying up or going to jail?” I calmly asked him.

Many in the crowd were the type to feel righteous. They quickly turned against him after learning the truth.

“You think driving a Valterra makes you special? Just because the other party didn’t move over to let you pass, you decided to block his path. Don’t act like you own the road!”

“You caused the accident yourself, and you expect insurance to pay? They’re not idiots!”

After failing to make it my fault and facing my compensation demand, Jason’s expression turned sour. The crowd’s mocking taunts made him fly into a rage.

He went and grabbed a baseball bat from his car. Then, he immediately started smashing my car with the bat. He shouted while smashing, “You want money from me? I’ll wreck your junk car into pieces right in front of you! Worst case scenario, I’ll buy you another!

“You dare ask me to pay? Next, I’ll smash your face!”

Watching him lose control was exactly what I had hoped for. I stepped back quietly and waited to see him embarrass himself further.

After tiring himself out, he threw five hundred thousand dollars onto my car. “Here, loser! five hundred thousand is more than enough to buy your trashy car. Take the extra as charity and get lost!”

I chuckled coldly. “This won’t even cover one of my headlights, let alone the whole car. Better get more money fast or prepare to rot in jail.”

I shot Sam Jones a reproachful look. I blamed him for making things more complicated and causing trouble for the organization.“Mr. Duke, when I got your message, I thought… That’s why I contacted Captain Flames. I’m sorry.”Seeing my expression, Sam quickly tried to explain.I glared at him, then turned to Flames. “Flames, this is my family business, and my private security team is here. My safety isn’t a problem. You should gather your people and leave.”I did not want Flames and his people to linger here, as this was my matter to resolve. After a quick look around, Flames understood the situation and led his team away. Then I called in my security team. Jason and Amy needed a lesson—and I made sure the team didn’t go easy.Jason screamed at the top of his lungs and tried to play the victim. “Help, the head of Golden Sea Group is abusing power and beating up innocent people!”I stomped on his face. “You mocked me for being poor when you were driving your Valterra, and now, yo

“Protect Mr. Duke. Restrain the attacker!”“Rescue Mr. Duke. Take down all the criminals. If they resist, subdue them immediately!”As soon as the two team leaders gave the orders, Amy’s bodyguards were all knocked down.Jason and Amy were both thrown to the ground too. When they tried to resist, a gunshot was fired immediately. The sound of gunfire silenced everyone. Amy’s bodyguards did not dare to move again.Lying on the ground, Jason thought the newcomers had made a mistake. He covered his head and yelled, “Did you get the wrong person? Isn’t Amy Parker your boss? I’m her husband. Why are you attacking me?”My private security captain, Sam Jones, slapped him hard. “I’ve known the boss since I was a kid. There’s no way I’d get it wrong. The Amy Parker you’re talking about is just a watchdog our boss let look after things.”The other team leader in camouflage pointed at Amy and Jason and scolded them. “Mr. Duke is a top-level military industry expert under special protection

Jason pointed at Amy Parker’s bodyguards and shouted, “Are you all blind? Didn’t you see your boss get hit? Go and take him down!”Since I had rarely shown up at the company in the last ten years, those bodyguards did not recognize me at all. After Jason’s command, they rushed over and held me down.“Let go of me! I’m the real president of Golden Sea Group. I’m your real boss!”Amy looked pleased when she saw the bodyguards restraining me and quietly stepped aside.I broke free from one of the bodyguards and demanded an answer from Amy. “I spent money to help your mother get treatment, paid for your college, and gave you a chance to manage Golden Sea Group. Is this how you repay me?“Tell them to let me go. Tell them I’m your husband and the real head of Golden Sea Group!”Amy smirked, and her expression was mocking. It was as if she were trying to tell me that I deserved all this.Jason walked up with a cruel expression, sneered, and said, “How shameless can you get? You took m

Amy hurried over to Jason Lodge as soon as she got out of the car. She grabbed his hands and said in a concerned voice, “Jason, who harassed you? I’ll stand up for you!”When the crowd saw the general manager of Golden Sea Group arrive, they all started whispering.“Wow. That’s the famous Iron Lady of Golden Sea Group. She looks even more impressive in person than on TV.”“Look at how much she cares for her husband, even though she’s rich. The moment she heard something had happened to him, she brought people to back him up. Why can’t you be like her? You don’t have money, and you don’t treat me well. I might just leave you.”“That Nimgo owner is in real trouble. The Iron Lady isn’t someone you want to mess with.”Jason pulled Amy over and pointed at me with pride. “It’s him. He tried to take my money and even said that the car you gave me belongs to him.“Honey, help me deal with him!”Amy’s expression grew cold. “Who’d be so bold as to mess with my husband?”After hearing Jas

Jason started sweating. He rushed behind his car to make a call.A moment later, Amy called me.“Marlin, what happened to my card? Why’s it not working? Tell the bank to reactivate it. Also, raise the card’s limit to one hundred million. I need it.”I replied calmly, “Why do you suddenly need that much money? What’re you planning to do?”“I have my reasons. Don’t ask so many questions. Just do it!”I pressed my lips together and hung up on her.It was my fault for letting her do whatever she wanted all these years. That was why she had gotten this out of hand. For the past ten years, because of special circumstances, I stayed out of the spotlight and let her run Golden Sea Group for me. I never expected her to cheat on me behind my back. It seemed she had really forgotten her place. She thought that being a watchdog meant Golden Sea Group belonged to her. After I hung up, Amy sent several messages in a row, but I ignored them.A little later, Jason held up his phone. He showe

When I said that, he scoffed and said, “You must be out of your mind. You’re getting so worked up about the money. You want to scam a rich dude, is that it?“Everyone knows that old Nimgo of yours is worth maybe two hundred thousand or three hundred thousand dollars at best. I offered you five hundred thousand dollars, and you’re still not satisfied?“Let me tell you something. This behavior is considered blackmail. I’m sure you know that’s illegal. Don’t think I don’t know the law.”People who were standing around started to chime in. “Buddy, take what you can get. That car of yours is worth two hundred thousand or three hundred thousand dollars. If he’s willing to give you five hundred thousand dollars, just take it and move on. Don’t get greedy.”“Yeah. Don’t end up getting nothing after all this. Plus, if he sues you for making false claims, you’ll lose big time.”At this point, an appraisal manager from a Nimgo dealership approached us.“Who said this Nimgo is only worth two
