Chapter 10: Dare Cook For Her Husband

Larry's POV

“How's the situation?” I asked my secretary, while heading towards my office with my hand tucked inside my pocket.

“A few investors are asking for withdrawal of their investments sir” he said, making me sigh.

Those vile people. They pretend to stay by your side but only go for withdrawal when things go awry.

But then again, who chooses failure.

“Set a meeting up with them. We will go with the backup plan” I told my secretary who bowed and stopped following behind me.

I got into my office, settling down behind my desk as I went over some documents regarding the lost project.

We didn't lose it because our proposal wasn't good enough, it was because that company just wanted to choose someone else over us.

Then I put a call across to my secretary again. “Henry, find out about who won the project bidding” I told him.

“Yes sir” he said and the call ended.

Sitting on my chair doing nothing, my thoughts went to Maya and Brandy again.

CHAPTER 75– THE OTHER MRS.LARRY'S POVI’d never really pictured myself as the type to sit across a table, waiting to be judged. I was always the one doing the talking, the convincing, the bluffing—never the one measured like a schoolboy in front of a headmistress. Yet here I was, walking into Davenport Holdings, clutching more nerves than sense. Walking into the Davenport Tower was like stepping into another universe. A forty-story glass-and-steel tower gleaming like it had something to prove. Impressive, if you hadn’t seen the view from my own penthouse office, which by the way, stretched higher than this building even dared.I’ll hand it to Davenport... she knew how to dress a building. The chrome doors glared back at me, spotless and sharp, the kind of shine that hurts your eyes if you stare too long. And an entrance wide enough to swallow a Rolls-Royce whole... Davenport clearly enjoyed the art of first impressions. Everything screamed money, ambition, control. Most people would

CHAPTER 74–FIRST LADY IN WAITING BRANDY'S POVI was rubbing serum into my cheeks when I hit dial. The phone barely rang once before Richard picked up.“Good morning, Richard,” I said, lightly, dabbing serum along my cheekbone.“Hey, Brandy. What’s up?”“I’m fine, and you?” I grabbed my moisturizer.“Good.”I arched a brow at myself in the mirror, smoothing the moisturizer into my skin.“I thought you said you and Larry were going out and coming back late.”“Things happened,” Richard replied. “He decided to go back home and think.”Think? Seriously? I rolled my eyes. Men and their dramatic ‘thinking.’“Think? About what?” I pressed, though my tone was more amused than worried.“Oh, he didn’t tell you?”“No, he didn’t.” Typical Larry. Always keeping the fun part to himself.“Well…” Richard paused, like he was about to drop a bomb. “Mrs. Davenport has agreed to sign the contract with the company. On one condition.”I stopped mid-stroke, cotton pad hovering over my skin. “Condition?”“Yea

CHAPTER 73 – TWENTY-FIVE MILLION REASONS LARRY’S POVThe walk to the car felt heavier than the entire visit. She didn’t so much as glance at me, her steps clipped, her silence sharper than any words she could’ve thrown. By the time we reached the curb, she yanked the door open herself and slipped inside, shutting it with a firm, deliberate thud like she wanted to build a wall between us.When I slid in behind the wheel a moment later, the air was already charged. Her arms were crossed, jaw clenched tight, eyes fixed out the window as if looking anywhere but at me was the only way to keep from exploding.“That,” she snapped, “was not the deal.”I leaned back, exhaling. “What exactly wasn’t the deal?”Her eyes swung to mine like twin daggers... friendly enough to kill, flashing with a mix of hurt and anger, burning straight through me. “Don’t play dumb, Larry. You told me I was going to pretend to be your girlfriend. Not fiancée. Not bride-to-be. Girlfriend. And then your grandfather.

  • I DIVORCED HIM! NOW, HE REGRETS   THE PROPOSITION

CHAPTER 72 – THE PROPOSITION LARRY'S POVShe blinked, confusion written all over her face.“Your… fake girlfriend?”“Yeah,” I said with a half-smile, watching her reaction closely. “You pretend to be with me, just for a while. Long enough to convince someone important. In return… I’ll cover your brother’s treatment.”Her lips parted, then closed, then parted again. It was like her tongue couldn’t find its footing. She just stared at me, disbelief clouding her eyes, then scoffed like I’d asked her to juggle flaming knives.“That’s ridiculous,” she muttered finally, shaking her head hard enough that the strands of hair at her temple slipped loose. “Nobody does that.”“Then consider me nobody,” I shot back, softer this time. “Look, I’m not asking you to marry me tomorrow or whatever. I just need you to stand beside me and play the part. That’s all. The rest… I’ll handle.”She hesitated, biting her lip, eyes flickering down to her clenched fists. The silence between us stretched thin, an

CHAPTER 71–THE WEIGHT SHE CARRIESLARRY'S POV She came to me all smiles, like we were old friends.“Hey, Mr. Jonathan. What brings you to this side of town?”The way she said my name... Mr. Jonathan, made me almost forget myself... almost I say. I quickly smirked, playing it cool, though inside I was scrambling. “Hm,” I stalled, then lied smoothly, “business trip.”Her brows arched a little, curious, but she nodded anyway. “Hmm. That’s reasonable.”I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding. Whew. At least she bought it.She tucked a stray hair behind her ear, tilting her head. “So… what can I get you?” “A cappuccino. Extra foam.” I gave her the same easy smile.Minutes later she returned, sliding the cup onto the counter like she’d done this a hundred times before. And maybe she had....with other customers. But never with me.I watch her set the coffee in front of me, steam curling like a little ghost trying to warn me off. “Thanks,” I mutter, but my eyes refuse to behave, tr

  • I DIVORCED HIM! NOW, HE REGRETS   THE STRANGER I KNOW

CHAPTER 70– THE STRANGER I KNOWLARRY'S POV She quit. Fucking two words. That was it. No explanation. No timeline. Just… absence. And yet, it hit me harder than I expected. Like someone had pulled the floor out from under me, and all I had left was this half-baked teenager asking if I wanted lilies or carnations.“She quit?” I repeated, like maybe if I said it enough times it would sound less ridiculous. “Why would she quit?”The kid finally dragged his eyes off his phone, giving me the kind of look that screamed you’re old, you don’t get it. “Uh, yeah. People do that. Want me to get you something?”I stared at him like he’d grown a second head. Flowers? I hadn’t even been buying flowers for Grandpa lately... at least not consciously. Half the bouquets were just excuses to watch her hands move, to hear her laugh, to see if she’d linger on me a second too long, like I was more than just another guy cluttering her counter. And now? Nothing. Just some underpaid intern who probably could
