CHAPTER 119 – THE BROADCAST BREAKUP

MAYA’S POV

For a full five seconds, I couldn’t move.

Larry’s voice kept echoing from Damian’s phone — calm, deliberate, too familiar. The same tone that used to melt my anger, the same voice that once promised me forever.

“She’s the woman I love.”

The words looped in my head like a broken record until they stopped sounding like English at all. My brain refused to process it, but my body understood perfectly — the nausea, the ache in my chest, the sting behind my eyes.

Damian lowered the phone slowly, like he was afraid it would explode. “Maya—”

“Don’t.” My voice came out low and steady, too steady. “Just don’t.”

The air in my office felt different — heavier, thicker. The scent of brewed coffee and cold perfume mixed with something else now. Betrayal, maybe. Humiliation.

Aleksander stood by the far wall, arms folded, eyes fixed on the floor like he didn’t trust himself to look at me. His silence was loud. The kind that fills every corner of the room.

CHAPTER 128 – ROUTINE?MAYA’S POVOfficer DeVaughn. The chair beneath me felt harder than it should have. Cold. Stubborn. Like it knew exactly how uncomfortable I would be sitting here, waiting. Across from me, the Chief of Police watched with an unreadable expression — calm, polite, professional. Way too polite for someone who held the authority to throw me into the kind of trouble that made mornings like this feel like survival drills.“Ms. Perkins,” the chief greeted, voice smooth and official. “Please, have a seat.”I forced my body to move, my pulse pounding. I sat down, pretending not to notice the brown-eyed officer stealing glances at me.The chief opened a file and flipped through a few papers. “You were present during an altercation involving Larry and Brandy earlier today, correct?”“Yes.” My voice sounded steadier than I felt.He nodded. “We’ve reviewed the public footage and statements. However, there are inconsistencies we need to clarify. Officer DeVaughn here will be a

CHAPTER 127 – THE MAN WITH THE BROWN EYESMAYA’S POVJust like my gut warned me, Aleksander bailed.Said something about a business meeting he had to attend “asap.”Yeah, right. Business meeting. Sure.I stood outside the police station gate, the wind tugging at my coat as I stared down at my phone. His last text still glowed on the screen — short, neat, and too polite for what had gone down a few hours ago. Can’t make it. Something urgent came up. Go without me.My thumb hovered over the message, tempted to delete it altogether. “Great,” I muttered, slipping the phone into my pocket. Maybe I should’ve just gone home. Pretend I never got that police call. Pretend I hadn’t spent the morning defending myself in front of half the neighborhood. But the universe must’ve taken pity on me, because when I looked up, I spotted someone familiar leaning casually against a white SUV near the entrance — Damian. He looked exactly like he always did — composed, confident, like nothing ever ruffled h

CHAPTER 126 – SUMMONED MAYA’S POVAleksander’s hand was already at my waist before I could even process what just happened. He didn’t ask if I was okay — he just pulled me close, steady and sure, like he’d been waiting for that exact moment to step in. His grip was firm, protective, the kind that made people step back without him saying a word.Larry froze. His hand still hovered in midair where he’d been pointing at me seconds ago. He blinked, like seeing Aleksander there made the whole street glitch.“What the hell are you doing here?” Larry snapped.Aleksander’s jaw tightened. “Picking up what you dropped.” His tone was smooth, dangerous — the kind that could slice someone open without raising the volume. The crowd that had gathered earlier didn’t even breathe. They knew a showdown when they saw one.Brandy was still sitting on the pavement, tears drying awkwardly, her little performance starting to fall apart now that the attention wasn’t fully on her. She looked between them, re

CHAPTER 125 – THE ACCUSATION MAYA’S POVThe sound of his footsteps hit before his voice did. Fast…Heavy and it seemed angry. He came running across the street, his face pale, his eyes wild, his focus locked on the ridiculous scene in front of him — Brandy on the floor, clutching her stomach, sobbing like a bad actress who suddenly remembered she had an audience.“What the hell did you do?!” Larry barked, voice slicing through the air. “Are you insane, Maya? Do you want to kill her and the unborn child?”Unborn child. My stomach clenched. I froze.“She tripped!” I blurted, voice shaking, but he didn’t let me finish.“Don’t you dare—” he cut in, pointing at me like I was something filthy he wanted gone. “Don’t you dare stand there and play innocent. Because you couldn’t bear children doesn’t mean you—”He stopped mid-sentence, jaw tightening. His words hung sharp and unfinished in the air, but the damage was done.My heart dropped first before my fists trembled. You couldn’t bear child

Chapter 124 – Longest Time, Bitch“Longest time, bitch.”I froze mid-step. Fingers tightened around my bag strap. I didn’t even need to turn. I knew. I knew.“Are you deaf or something?”Her tone was sharp, mocking, and entirely familiar. I stiffened and finally turned, jaw tightening.“Brandy.” I spat the name like venom, eyes narrowing. “What the hell are you doing here?”She appeared beside me before I could blink, leaning slightly against the courthouse wall, her smirk sharp enough to cut glass. “Oh, you know… just checking in on the world’s most sour Ms. Perkins. Thought I’d see if the divorce gave you some sense of… liberation.”I crossed my arms, planting my heels like I was a statue carved from rage. “I don’t need your approval.”Brandy tilted her head, mock innocence plastered across her face. “Approval? Honey, you’ve got that backward. I’m not here for approval. I’m here because curiosity killed the cat… and you’re one hell of a cat to watch.”I scoffed, rolling my eyes so h

  • I DIVORCED HIM! NOW, HE REGRETS   SIGNING THE END

Chapter 123 – Signing the EndThe courtroom had barely settled from the morning’s chaos when the clerk finally called our names. My legs stiffened. My hands pressed into my thighs under the table, trying to steady the tremor that had nothing to do with the polished marble beneath my heels.I wanted to scream at him, throw my bag, storm into the judge’s chamber and yell every accusation I’d rehearsed in my head. But the second he locked eyes with mine, all that fire simmered into a tense, brittle silence.“Good morning,” he said, voice low, casual, as if we were strangers meeting at a café.I tilted my head, forcing my glare into place. “Morning,” I said, sharp. No warmth. Nothing. Just the knife-edge politeness of someone who refuses to be caught off guard. We didn’t talk again until the clerk called our names. “Ms. Perkins. Mr. Jonathan,” the clerk said, voice clipped and professional. “Please proceed to the front.”Larry fell into step beside me. I bit my lip. Don’t say anything. D
