CHAPTER 194 – THE FIRST STRIKE

MAYA POV

Liam moved first. He grabbed my arm like he expected me to vanish and pulled me behind him. His body blocked the corridor while his eyes searched the shadows ahead.

I didn’t breathe. I didn’t blink. The sound came again. A soft scrape. Slow but confident. Like whatever was coming didn’t need to hide.

Xves didn’t move at all. He stood still with his head tilted a little, reading the air the way someone reads a map. Aleksander shifted to my left, shoulders stiff, waiting for Liam to say something.

Nobody spoke.

The shape stepped out.

It wasn’t a guard. It wasn’t a drone. It wasn’t anything I had seen before in this place.

It looked like a man. Tall. Straight posture. Calm steps. But the skin wasn’t right. The movement wasn’t right. The body was too smooth. Too controlled. Like it was wearing human skin without knowing how humans actually worked.
