Chapter 1

“Are you kidding me?”

The new intern at the hospital, Dahlia Smith, sized me up with disdain.

A chill ran down my spine, but I forced myself to be calm and held my gaze.

“I also have gastritis. I’d like to try your painless gastroscopy.”

Dahlia had claimed that she could carry out painless treatment and surgery on her first day at the hospital.

She then immediately conducted a bone marrow aspiration on a patient.

Dahlia did not use any anesthetics. Even the way she did it was wrong.

I was terrified, but the patient did not react to the procedure.

After a while, the procedure was complete, but I suddenly felt pain in my right leg bone.

Soon, I collapsed to the floor and could not move. On top of that, Dahlia snatched my scheduled surgery from me.

That was the start of her success.

She was promoted from an intern to a chief physician very quickly.

Meanwhile, I was suffering from pain in the hospital bed that day.

My legs hurt, and I felt a burning sensation in my heart. I even had a gastric perforation that caused bleeding in my stomach.

I had always been the top performer in my hospital.

So, the hospital director personally examined me after he heard that I was ill.

However, he discovered that I was physically fine, and his expression turned cold.

“Charlene Anderson, I know you’ve been assigned a lot more tasks recently. But we only did that because we value your importance!

“Yet, you’re pretending to be sick and leaving your tasks to an intern. You’ve truly disappointed me!”

When I tried to speak, I felt a sharp pain in my throat.

The surgical schedule showed that Dahlia was examining a patient with laryngitis right then.

How could there be such a coincidence?

It was hard for me to not connect the dots.

However, in my last life, no matter how I tried to explain, my colleagues and patients refused to believe me.

My eyes turned dark with anguish when I thought about it.

In this life, I could never act rashly and alert her in advance!

I needed to learn the truth to prevent the same tragedy from happening again!

As I had predicted, Dahlia rejected my request for a gastroscopy with a sneer.

“Charlene, we both know whether you’re really here for an examination or to secretly learn my skills!

“If you don’t leave, I’ll stand here until you leave! Then, you’ll be responsible for delaying treatment for the other patients!”

Hearing this, the other patients who had fought to get an appointment with her immediately started complaining.

“You’re a doctor too. When you examine us, you usually just tell us to bear with the pain. Why can’t you bear with your own pain?”

“I’m pretty sure you earn quite a lot. You can just get a capsule endoscopy. Why are you wasting our time?”

A middle-aged woman suddenly rushed forward to slap me.

“My son’s been feeling pain in his chest the whole afternoon. If something happens to him, I’ll make you pay!”

She opened the floodgates with her actions, and the other patients rushed forward to hit me too.

During this time, Dahlia had already brought her first patient into the operating theater.

After a while, I felt extreme pain in my chest.

It felt like my heart was being poked by a pair of forceps multiple times.

I abruptly fell to the floor and accidentally hit my head against a chair.

Blood oozed out immediately, and the patients quickly stepped away from me after that.

“This doctor is trying to fake an accident! How immoral!”

“We merely hit you! We didn’t punch you in your chest! Don’t blame that on us!”

Just when I was about to faint, I heard a young boy saying, “Mommy, Doctor Dahlia’s amazing! I didn’t feel any pain earlier, and it’s completely stopped hurting!”

“Transfer the pain? What are you talking about, Dahlia?“Isn’t it supposed to be painless? Why is there a transfer?”I slowly extracted the tube and stared intently at Dahlia, who had collapsed to the floor. “Who told you I could transfer pain?”“If you didn’t transfer it, how could you not feel it?”The crowd did not know what Dahlia was talking about, but I certainly did. I showed everyone the video of my brain surgery. One part of my brain had been removed. However, I was standing here in good health. Everyone was surprised. The hospital director immediately grabbed me and asked, “Is this a medical miracle? How are you not dead?”When he saw my face sink, he immediately rephrased it. “How are you still fine?” I pointed at the video and explained, “Because this part of the brain is extra! Of course I won’t die after its removal.“But why do I have an extra brain part?”I smiled and stared coldly at Dahlia. “We should ask Doctor Dahlia.” Humans could feel pain

“What?”“How’s that possible?”“Is she crazy? How would someone expose their poor academic results and buy bots to smear their own reputation?”I immediately created a group chat and added everyone to it. Then, I sent all the evidence that the private detective had shared. There were screenshots of the poster’s IP, academic history, and bot purchase history. With all these clues, it was obvious that Dahlia was the person behind her own smear campaign. The hospital director was extremely angry when he saw this. After all, it was bad for the hospital’s reputation to have such a doctor. The other hospital executives had told him that he was blinded. When he heard that Dahlia had a special technique, he disregarded her education just so that he could prove the others wrong. He did not expect Dahlia to be the one behind everything!“But why would she do that?”“That’s right. She’d lose her job and ruin the hospital’s reputation!” I smiled. “That’s right. It’s because she

“Charlene, don’t drag me into this just because you’re insane!” Dahlia’s face was flushed with anger as she roared. However, in the next second, the crowd started to speak before she could defend herself further. “What’s the meaning of this, Doctor Dahlia? Were you experimenting on us when you were treating us?” “Why can’t you operate on yourself? Is your life worth more than ours?” I knew my assumption was correct when I saw Dahlia’s nervous look. She could only transfer her patients’ pain, but she could not transfer her own pain. After her last treatment procedure, I should have died. So, she did not expect me to show up here. Someone even threw a bottle at Dahlia. Under immense pressure, she had no choice but to agree to the competition. After the crowd left, she walked toward me unhappily. “Charlene, we were colleagues in the past. You don’t have to do this to me!” I did not even spare her a glance before I left. She knew who had actually started all of th

When she saw me, she immediately became flustered. She sized me up and noticed that I looked extremely healthy. This shocked her even more. “Why are you here? Shouldn’t you be…”She probably thought that I was dead. No wonder she acted as if she had seen a ghost. I sneered and joked, “What’s wrong, Dahlia? I only resigned. I didn’t die!” The other patients heard what I said and immediately surrounded me. Their eyes were sparkling with hope. “Doctor Charlene, are you telling the truth?”“Can you also perform painless surgery?”“Of course!” I laughed.Dahlia immediately yelled, “Impossible! You wouldn’t know how to do it!” I sneered and questioned her, “Are you the only one capable of doing so?”She turned pale and could not utter a word. I carefully scrutinized her expression and cocked an eyebrow with amusement. “I watched your video and learned from it.” “Impossible! I didn’t know how to…” Dahlia almost told the truth after I triggered her. She stopped herse

It turned out that I had been close to the truth, but I just did not realize it! Before I fainted, I asked Peggy to send me to the largest hospital in the city. That way, their specialists could remove the parts of my brain that were not damaged yet. The doctors were shocked, but Peggy had brought along a disclaimer. They immediately operated on me after reading it and noticing that I was about to die. A few days later, I miraculously recovered. Dahlia’s reputation had reached new heights while I was in a coma. After all, everyone had come across the video of her operating. It was terrifying to watch, but everyone online kept spamming comments. [Oh, my god. I’m going to lose my mind as a final year medical student! I’ve learned so much, but I can’t tell how Dahlia did it.][This is hilarious. My professor is about to leave his profession because of this! Oh, and my professor’s one of the top doctors in the country!]Anyone with some medical knowledge could tell that Dah

The next day, Peggy turned on the camera after she saw the exact time. I was sitting on my bed and waiting for my alarm to ring at 10 a.m. When the alarm rang, I realized that I did not feel anything. I immediately burst into tears. I thought I had discovered the medium of transference, that I had to be in the hospital for it to happen. However, five minutes later, I started to convulse with pain. It was as if someone was lighting my stomach on fire. It was excruciating. I felt needles piercing through my skin, and my forehead was covered in sweat. At this point, I did not even have the energy to scream. Some time later, I could taste blood coming up my throat. I could not help but throw up.Peggy placed her cell phone on a tripod and immediately helped me. She stuffed some painkillers into my mouth, but they did not work!Half an hour later, the pain finally subsided a little. However, I could not really eat anything. I kept experiencing acid reflux and felt ex
