Chapter 2

Autor: Ebbing Tide
Esmeralda's POV

I handed my application to leave the pack to Elder Alaric.

He took it and looked at it for a long while before letting out a heavy sigh. "Esmeralda, you've poured your heart and soul into our pack all these years. Have you really thought this through? Besides, does Alpha Cosmo know about this?"

In the past, I had truly made it my goal to fulfill my duties as Luna for the rest of my life. Unfortunately…

I smiled and shook my head. "He'll find out soon enough."

Regret flashed through the depths of Elder Alaric's eyes. "You've always soothed the she-wolves and looked after the pups in the pack. Everyone speaks so highly of you. Your relationship with Alpha Cosmo has always been good, too. But since you've made up your mind, I'll respect your decision."

He handed the signed and finalized application back to me. It was just a piece of paper, yet it suddenly felt as heavy as lead, weighing down on my chest until I could barely breathe.

When I arrived home, the villa was deserted. Cosmo hadn't returned.

I picked up my phone to find a text from Tallulah. "Thank you for letting Alpha Cosmo keep me company. I had such a wonderful time tonight!"

Attached was a selfie of her leaning against Cosmo's shoulder.

I was well aware that Cosmo, who had promised to come home, wouldn't be back. It was always the same story whenever Tallulah was involved. I accepted the offer from the Cecil Institute in silent resignation.

In two days' time, I would leave for the institute. My university mentor had always lamented seeing my talent go to waste and had earnestly invited me to join him several times.

Back then, all I wanted was to stay by Cosmo's side. He needed a suitable Luna who could help him manage the pack. Hence, I gave up the career I loved, left the world of scientific research, and stayed by his side.

This time, since I was joining a closed-door experiment, he would never be able to guess where I had gone. I had spent six whole years by Cosmo's side. For once, I wanted to live for myself.

  • I Don't Wanna Be His Luna Anymore   Chapter 8

Cosmo's POVMy fingers trembled as I accepted the envelope. It bore Esmeralda's familiar signature. I opened the neatly folded letter inside, and the very first line froze me in my tracks. "Esmeralda Moone formally requests to sever all ties with the pack and voluntarily forfeits her status as a pack member. No mate bond between Esmeralda Moone and Cosmo Greymark has ever been acknowledged by the Moon Goddess. Effective immediately, she is no longer affiliated with the pack in any capacity."I stared at the handwriting for what felt like an eternity until my eyes began to ache. A warm tearstain spread across the paper. I blinked and let the tear slip from the corner of my eye until it was gone. "When did she… submit this application?"Elder Alaric remained silent for a few seconds before answering, "The night of the banquet. I asked her if she had thought it through. Esmeralda smiled and told me she had. How could she not be heartbroken? Everyone saw how much she sacrificed fo

Cosmo's POVI mobilized the entire pack's resources, and three days later, I finally received word of her whereabouts. Esmeralda had gone to the renowned Cecil Institute, returning to the career she loved most. While I was staring blankly at the words "the Cecil Institute" on the report, Tallulah appeared before me in an off-the-shoulder, butter-yellow gown. She walked up to me and asked coquettishly, "Cosmo, will you watch the new movie with me tonight? I've already bought the tickets!""No." Tallulah clearly hadn't expected me to turn her down. She pouted and reached out to tug at my sleeve. "So what if Esmeralda left? She's just an ordinary Omega. It's not like she's anyone important.""She's my future Luna!" I jerked my head up, shooting daggers at her. Tallulah seemed startled by my intense glare. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she ran out. I lowered my head again to read the report. Esmeralda had been invited to join a closed-door research project at the Cecil Inst

Cosmo's POVI followed Tallulah out of the theater and checked my phone, only to see the message Esmeralda had sent me. My first thought was that she was punking me. How could this be possible? Esmeralda and I were fated mates. Even though we hadn't marked each other, I would have sensed something if we were separated. Right then, a searing pain seized my heart, and my vision blurred instantly. I was forced to crouch down, instinctively searching for Esmeralda's scent. The familiar scent that usually lingered at the tip of my nose had vanished without a trace. The realization struck me like a sledgehammer and made it impossible for me to stay on my feet. This meant Esmeralda had truly severed our bond. She was leaving me for good. Tallulah suddenly tugged at my sleeve, her voice soft and gentle. "Cosmo, can you take me to the bar later? I want to try that new signature cocktail!""Not now." I couldn't be bothered to care about her feelings as I hurried home. Usually, at t

Esmeralda's POVCosmo came home on the day I was preparing to leave. Noticing that all of my clothes were gone, he nervously asked, "Esmeralda, are you going on a trip?"I responded half-heartedly, "The seasons are changing, so I got rid of some clothes I don't like anymore." His expression relaxed slightly. He took out a gift box and solemnly held it out to me. Inside lay a ruby necklace. "Honey, this is our six-year anniversary gift. Do you like it?" I looked at the gemstone set into the pendant, roughly the size of a pigeon's egg, before looking up at Cosmo. He had probably forgotten that this ruby was the one he had specifically bought for Tallulah on the day our 13th marking ceremony was canceled. But she didn't like it because the color was too ostentatious. Thus, it had sat forgotten in the storage room all this time."So what are you trying to tell me?" I interrupted him.Cosmo hesitated for a moment before softening his tone. "Tallulah wants to win the fragrance co

Esmeralda's POVI gradually came back to my senses. Lowering my head, I stared at the cut left by the broken glass. It wasn't a large wound, but it wouldn't stop bleeding. My brows furrowed, and I ultimately decided to go to the clinic. On my way there, I overheard a few Omegas whispering among themselves. "Isn't that the future Luna? Why's she here getting bandaged all on her own?""What Luna? Haven't you seen Tallulah's social media? Alpha Cosmo has been with her the whole time." After a moment of silence, I pulled up the app. Tallulah had just posted a new photo. Cosmo was holding a pair of fluffy slippers in the picture, his brows knitted together in helplessness. Her caption read, "After coming down with a fever, I'm not even allowed to walk around barefoot anymore. He really spoils me rotten."The pack healer, Liana Volkov, was my only close friend. Wrapping the gauze around my finger, she grumbled, "Ever since Tallulah returned to the pack, she's been doing everythi

Esmeralda's POVThe following day, I was stirred awake by Cosmo's footsteps. He gently tucked me in. "Did I wake you?" The scent of jasmine filled my nostrils. I abruptly shoved him away and instinctively gagged. That was Tallulah's scent. Cosmo wouldn't have carried such a strong scent on him unless he had spent a long time in close contact with her. Drinking in my violent reaction, Cosmo froze in place. He handed over a glass of warm water. "Don't get the wrong idea. I went out with Tallulah last night, and by the time I came back, you were already fast asleep."I was a bit surprised. In all the years we had been together, it was the first time he'd given me an explanation. I nodded indifferently. Cosmo scowled and took two steps toward me, as if he wanted to approach me. Just then, his phone rang. A moment later, he explained, "Tallulah's running a fever. I need to head over and check on her, so I won't be back for lunch." I nodded without sparing him so much as a gl
