Chapter 4

Author: Peachy
Two days later, the keys to my new apartment felt heavy in my hand.

A penthouse on the thirty-second floor, with floor-to-ceiling windows facing east, overlooking the entire glittering city.

Most importantly, it held zero memories of Ethan.

"Welcome home, Ms. Silvermoon," the building manager said with a smile, opening the door for me.

I had just dropped my suitcase when his voice wormed its way back into my head.

"Ivana... please... I was wrong..."

His mind link. Faint, but desperate. He had clawed his way through my block.

"I'll change. I'll cut her off completely... just give me a chance..."

I closed my eyes, found that last remaining thread, and severed it.

Snip.

From now on, he could never invade my thoughts again.

That afternoon, I walked into the headquarters of Victoria Group, a top-tier human corporation.

"Ivana, your creative proposal is breathtaking!"

The CEO of Victoria Group slammed his hands on the table in excitement. "This cross-promotional marketing concept is pure genius!"

I smiled, accepting his praise.

For three years, Ethan had insisted my collaborations with human companies were "pointless for our kind."

He said I should focus on pack business, not "waste time on trivial creative projects."

But now, without him holding me back, my talent was finally free to shine.

"The contract is for fifty million dollars," the CEO said, handing me the file. "A three-year exclusive partnership."

The moment I signed my name, I felt a sense of accomplishment I'd never known.

This was something I had earned on my own. Not because I was someone's mate, not because of a political alliance.

This was just me. Ivana.

I returned to my apartment that evening and poured a glass of red wine to celebrate.

As I prepared to enjoy the night view, the lights in the penthouse of the building directly opposite me suddenly flickered on.

I froze.

That penthouse had been empty yesterday.

Now, a familiar figure was standing at the massive window, staring straight at me.

Ethan.

My phone rang immediately.

"Did you buy the penthouse across from me?" I asked, skipping the pleasantries.

"I need to ensure your safety," his voice came through the phone. "The security in this area—"

"Cut the crap," I interrupted. "We're about to sever our bond. Why are you still clinging to me?"

"Because I'm not letting you run away," his voice turned hard. "Ivana, you still care about me. Otherwise, you wouldn't have called to confront me."

I paused for a second.

"See? You're silent," he continued. "That proves you still have feelings for me. We can start over—"

I hung up.

But even across the distance, I could see his silhouette in the window.

A persistent, watching shadow.

At eleven o'clock, my doorbell rang.

"Ms. Silvermoon," the security guard's voice came through the intercom, "there's a delivery for you."

"I didn't order anything."

"A gentleman sent some herbs. He said they're good for your health."

I frowned.

Herbs?

Five minutes later, a bouquet of strange, deep purple plants was presented to me.

A thick, cloying scent hit me instantly.

I scrambled back three steps, covering my nose. "Get it away! Take it away now!" My voice trembled with panic.

The guard looked at me, confused. "Ma'am, is there a problem with these herbs?"

"That's Night-soul grass!" I choked out, tears already blurring my vision as a furious rash exploded across my skin. "I'm fatally allergic to it!"

The guard immediately removed the plants.

I rushed into the bathroom, frantically splashing my face and hands with cold water.

My phone rang.

"Ivana! Did you get the herbs?" Ethan's excited voice chirped. "It's the rarest Night-soul grass. It's supposed to enhance a she-wolf's spiritual power. I had it specially—"

"Ethan," my voice was hoarse from the allergic reaction. "I'm allergic to Night-soul grass."

The line went silent.

"What? No... you never told me..."

"Two years ago," I rasped, my throat raw. "At the pack festival. I ate a pastry with that poison in it. My wolf almost collapsed, my whole body broke out in hives, and I couldn't shift for three days."

A longer silence.

"You took me to the emergency healer," I continued. "You stood there while the healer told you I had a fatal allergy to it and had to avoid it at all costs."

"I… I remember," he stammered, panic finally seeping into his voice. "I do now."

"You don't remember me screaming in the healer's den? So much pain I thought my wolf was dying?"

"I'm sorry! My memory… it's all foggy because of the rejection! The bond… it’s weakening, it’s affecting my mind!" he finally spat out, his voice spiraling.

"Ivana, this isn't my fault! This is your fault! You're the one who did this to us!"

Ethan's POVI loved Ivana. I always did.But I was a fool.I took her love for granted, used her loyalty as a shield, and claimed her strength as my own.It wasn't until I lost her that I understood what I'd truly lost.It wasn't just a mate.It was the foundation of my Alpha power, the other half of my soul, my reason for being."Ethan, look! The packs in the East are weak. We could easily conquer them!"Oliva drew circles on the map, her eyes wild with excitement."You'll be the Alpha King of the North!"I should have heard the madness in her voice.I should have seen the greed in her eyes. But after losing Ivana, my judgment had faded along with my strength."The plan is too risky," I frowned, looking at the map. "We don't have enough allies.""Who needs allies?" She waved her hand dismissively. "You're an Alpha! They should fear your power!"If Ivana were here, she would have analyzed the risks. She would have used her sharp political instincts to warn me of the dangers. But Ivana

"Ivana! Please, stop!"I was about to get into my car when a familiar voice called out from behind me.I turned to see a woman I barely recognized.Oliva.Once poised and elegant, she was now dressed in rags, her eyes filled with desperation. Her hair was a matted mess, her cheeks were hollow, and she looked like she hadn't eaten in days."What are you doing here?" I asked, my face blank."I need to talk to you," she said, rushing closer. "It's about Ethan."I opened my car door. "We have nothing to talk about.""Wait!" She suddenly dropped to her knees in front of my car. "Please! Just five minutes!"Her kneeling drew the attention of passersby. Not wanting to cause a scene, I sighed. "Get in. But you only have five minutes."Inside the car, Oliva's hands trembled as tears streamed down her face."Ethan... he's dying, Ivana.""And what does that have to do with me?" I started the car."Everything is ruined," she sobbed. "The pack split, the Elders betrayed him, and all his supporters

Five years later."Mommy, Daddy said we have important guests tonight."My four-year-old son, Aiden, ran into my office, his golden eyes bright with curiosity."That's right, sweetie." I scooped him up, feeling the powerful Alpha bloodline thrumming within him. "They're delegates for the Sovereign Summit."Caleb walked in, a proud smile on his face."Ready, my Luna?"The title still made me smile. The moment my bond with Ethan shattered, a new one began to spark. Faint, but true. Caleb had felt it instantly. He had been waiting all along. In five years, we had built the most powerful wolf-run business empire in North America.I was no longer an accessory. I was the Luna who ruled this territory side-by-side with Caleb."Of course." I slipped on my custom black gown. "Let's show them what real power looks like."The Waldorf Astoria. "The Elders have made their decision."I informed Ethan over the phone, my voice cold."Decided what?" His voice sounded exhausted."The formal severing of the bond. Next Wednesday. The full moon."The line went silent."Ivana, don't do this. Please.""This is our last call," I said, about to hang up. "Just show up. Your presence is required.""Wait!" he yelled. "Let's meet. Just one last time!"The coffee shop. Our old spot. The place where we'd had countless dates.Ethan sat across from me, looking like he’d aged ten years."Ivana, it can't end like this," he said, reaching for my hand.I pulled back, avoiding his touch."Like this?" I scoffed. "Worse than losing our child?""I really don't remember that!" he said, grabbing his hair in desperation. "If I had known you were pregnant—""You knew," I cut in. "You just chose to forget."Suddenly, my phone buzzed.A new message. Not a text. An image. From: Oliva. It was a picture of her and Ethan in bed together. The caption read: "Thanks

"So the rumors are true."Oliva's voice dripped with malicious glee."What rumors?" I turned to her."That a weak wolf like you was never worthy of being an Alpha's mate." Her eyes glinted with challenge. "Looks like they were right."My blood boiled."What did you say?""I said you're weak." Oliva took a step closer. "You've been a silent doormat for three years. You can't even keep your own mate from leaving you. How could you ever be a Luna?"My claws shot out. The silver tips gleamed in the dim light."Oliva. You'd better take that back.""Why?" She didn't flinch. "It's the truth. You're so weak that even Ethan knows you're not good enough for him."My control snapped."Enough!"I lunged for her.But a wall of muscle suddenly stood between us.Ethan threw his arms out, shielding Oliva. "Ivana, enough! Don't you dare lay a hand on her!"I froze.Ice flooded my veins. In that instant, I remembered another night.Three years ago. An enemy Alpha challenged Ethan. I threw myself in fron

My eyes widened. I couldn't believe it.He forgot. He forgot I almost died. And now he dared to blame me?"Ethan, listen to yourself.""It's the truth!" His voice turned angry. "A broken mate bond screws with your memory! You have to reconnect—"I hung up. Turned off my phone.I stared at my reflection. My face was a swollen, red mess. And I laughed. Two years together. He didn't even remember my worst allergic reaction. So this was his "love."At two in the morning, a frantic ringtone woke me.Not my phone. It came from across the hall. Ethan. My wolf hearing caught every frantic word."What?! Oliva, what's wrong?! Your powers are out of control?"His panic sliced through the silent night."Don't worry, I'm coming! Just hang on!"Three minutes later, I saw him run out of the building across the street. He peeled out in his car.I went back to bed. Tried to sleep. His panic wasn't my problem....Half an hour later, I was at the bar."You look well-rested. My bad for waking you."Caleb
