CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

RAIN

Like I suspected, shopping was hell. The girls all had issues with every dress and found reasons to make us stay longer than was necessary. I finally had to tell Greg to pick anything for me when I looked at the time and saw that if I didn't leave, I would be late for my shift at the radio station. It's an evening show so I only work in the evenings, which works perfectly for me.

After work, I buy myself a burger before heading home. There's a dark figure sitting on my door step when I get home. I sigh out loud when I see him. So now he wants to look at me?

He stands when I come up and watches quietly as I open the door. He only speaks once we're inside the house.

"You're home late." He says.

He sees the take out bag I have with me and takes it from me.

"Hello to you too, Xavier."

He nods with a smile and starts walking to the living room with my dinner. He takes a seat and opens the package. He sniffs it and nods in approval.

"This is good." He unlocks his phone and tosses it to me.

I catch the phone and shake my head at him, what if I didn't know how to catch?

"Order whatever you want." He says.

"You're just giving me your phone? What if I go through it?"

He stops eating and looks at me with raised eyebrows.

"Do you want to go through my phone?"

I ignore him and order a large pizza and the same burger he stole. They don't deliver burgers but if I add a pizza, they'll add the burger. Serves him right for stealing my dinner. After I'm done, I take a seat and give back his phone to him.

"So... Sapphire." I start.

He doesn't react or do anything, he just keeps eating. Talking to him is pointless.

"Are you sleeping with her?" I finally ask.

He eats the last bite and cleans his mouth with the napkin in the bag.

"Can I get something to drink?" He says.

Urrgh, this is torture. I stand up and get him a glass of water from the kitchen. He'll have to manage tap water. He takes the glass with one hand then holds my hand with the other. He maintains eyes contact as his drinks the water, only breaking eye contact to put the glass on the table.

He then pulls me down to him and puts me on his laps.

"Are you jealous?" He asks.

I scoff. "As if. I'm just worried about my health, we are doing it without protection."

"Too bad, I was hoping you were jealous."

I turn to face him. "Why?"

He shrugs. "I don't know. I just wanted you to be jealous."

"You're strange, Xavier Bishops."

He laughs but still doesn't let me go.

"You know, you should tell me if she's your girlfriend. I'm not going to be the secret girl you're cheating on your girlfriend with."

"She's not my girlfriend. I'm just taking her to the founders’ ball. Our mum's are friends and they thought it would be cute."

Oh, that makes sense. Rich people do like to mingle but what happens when their moms decide they should date.

"Whatever, if you start dating her then I'm out."

"Noted, let's kiss now."

We make out in the living room until the food comes. It's strange not jumping straight to the bed with Xavier.

Xavier pays and just watches me eat. "You can take pizza if you want. You paid for it."

He shakes his head.

"I'm fine, watching you eat is giving me an appetite for something else."

I don't hide the smile that spreads through my face. I'm in trouble.

The founders’ ball is great. I've never been able to attend due to being constantly bullied and having zero friends. I'm thankful to Greg that I'm here today. The food, the set up and the clothes are all perfect. Even the snotty rich attitude is great also.

Greg makes me laugh and today his friends are not being disgusting toads. They're acting like they have respect for women.

My eyes strays a few times to Xavier and his date laughing and having fun. They look picture perfect and in love to me but Xavier swears he doesn't like her. I believe him but it's still strange to watch him with her. When he was with Lacey, he didn't care if she was cold or if she was having fun but with Sapphire, he's attentive and sweet.

Greg taps me and I turn with a smile.

"Are you having fun?" He says and I nod.

"Come with me."

I follow him out of the ballroom to an empty hallway.

"This is great, a lot different from the parties at my last school." He says.

"This is my first party, I don't know..."

Greg's kiss shuts me up. My eyes are wide and I've temporarily stopped breathing. What is happening? I finally unfreeze and push him off.

"What was that for?" I ask.

"I like you Rain, a lot."

I frown and sigh. This isn't good. I stay silent for too long and he nods in understanding.

"I get it. You don't feel the same. I'm sorry I attacked you like that."

He walks off without waiting for my reply. Shit, this was a perfect night. As Greg turns the corner and goes out of sight, Xavier walks out of a room with his date. He looks me straight in the eye, mouths 'I told you so' before leaving the same way Greg went.

Sapphire and him were still in the hall when Greg and I left, did he follow us out so he can spy on us?

That's crazy but it does make me smile.
