LOGIN“I sent you $100,000. Use it to get rid of the pregnancy and take care of yourself…” That was the message I received from my boyfriend ten years ago at age 19. No one wants to hear that after they’ve literally planned their future with this person. I was shattered. I was nineteen, pregnant, and dumped by the man who claimed he’ll be in my life forever. But his forever ended as soon as he saw the pregnancy test. I took the money and did exactly what he asked me to do, took care of myself and my beautiful daughter that he rejected. I promised myself to never look back and I didn’t. Ten years later and I’m a successful lawyer. A big change happened in my career and the man who abandoned me ended up becoming my boss. And apparently, he thinks I’m the one who betrayed him. But I don’t care what he thinks or if he had different memories of what happened ten years ago. It doesn’t matter. Because I was going to make Kai Russo’s life a living hell.

You know that moment when two people who are madly in love with each other find out they're going to have a baby and they're both so happy?
Well, this wasn't going to be like one of those moments.
I realized that as I watched Kai paced my tiny bedroom in the servant's quarters, clutching the pregnancy test like it would give him a different answer other than those two red lines.
“How's this possible?” He muttered for the millionth times in the past fifteen minutes.
“That's what happened when two people have very unprotected sex, Kai. I'm sure you did biology in high school.” I said sarcastically and rubbed my temple, gently soothing the headache that had already start to form.
I was getting pissed off by his behaviour and how he's acting like this pregnancy was the most shocking thing in the world, like it wasn't a result of all those nights we spent together in this very room where he whispered sweet nothings into my ears.
I should have known better and stayed away from him. Actually, I did know better, but my stupid heart still went for him anyway.
I guess Mama was right. I always go for things I could never get and end up breaking my own heart.
“This is not a joke, Nicki.” He groaned.
And that was when I finally snapped.
“I know it's not a fucking joke, Kai.” I scoffed. “I'm nineteen. I just got out of high school and I'm not even sure if I'll be able to afford college. And now I find out I'm pregnant for my employer's son which means I'm definitely losing my job if this gets out. I'll probably end up a single mother on the streets working some shitty job just to make ends meet.” I chuckled and wiped the tears that had gathered at the corner of my eyes.
“You, on the other hand, will be just fine. You'll go to some pristine school abroad where you'll refer to how you got your maid pregnant as a ‘valuable lesson in your life’. You'll be just fine. So no, I'm not joking. I am fucking terrified!” I yelled.
Kai finally stopped pacing. He had that thoughtful expression on his face, that same expression that had made me fall for him the first time I saw him right after he finished high school last year. I had thought he wasn't like the typical rich kid.
Despite his family being one of the richest in the country and Kai set to inherit everything, he was so down to earth and considerate. So when he had noticed me watering his family's garden one day, I had been ecstatic.
Of course, we had kept it a secret. We are both so young and we had a lot to lose if anyone found out that the Russo heir was sleeping with me.
I didn't want to imagine what would happen if the news of my pregnancy got out.
Kai took a few gentle steps towards me and took my hand in his. He guided me towards my tiny mattress in the corner and we sat on it.
“I'm sorry, Nicki.” He said in a soft voice that shouldn't have made me melt so fast, but it did. I was absolutely gone for the man.
“I wasn't thinking about how this would affect you and I was only thinking about myself. I was selfish. But I promise I won't be anymore. For you and for our child. I know we're both pretty young and this is scary right now, but you won't have to go through anything alone, I promise. I'll be right there with you no matter the consequences.”
Something heavy inside me lifted at his words and it felt like I could didn't breathe.
“So you're not suggesting we abort the pregnancy?” I asked in a low voice.
“No. I will never ask you to do that. We're having this baby and I will take full responsibility for it.” He responded.
And even though he had already reassured me, I couldn't completely get rid of the tightness in my chest.
“Even though you could lose your position as heir to Summer?” I asked.
Summer was his younger sister and she wasn't a fan of me at all. She was an absolute brat and screamed at basically everything. She threw tantrums at the most little things as well. She was an absolute nightmare to all the workers in the mansion.
The only person who enables her behaviour is Jennifer, Jen. I'm not exactly sure how Jen is related to the Russo's but she went to the same boarding school with Kai and has been staying here since they got back last year.
“Even then.” Kai smiled, he leaned in and placed a kiss on my forehead.
I was happy now, still terrified a little bit at least Kai accepted the pregnancy. He didn't say it wasn't his. So I shouldn't still fill so uncomfortable. Right?
I heard footsteps coming from outside my room. One sounded like it was receding while the other was approaching. I instantly recognized the approaching footsteps.
“Shit, Maggie is coming. You have to hide quickly.” I panicked.
The last thing I wanted was for the head of maid to find Kai Russo in my room. I would not be able to explain that.
“Okay, I'll text you later. Let's meet outside and figure out how to break the news to everyone else.” He gave me a quick kiss on the lips and slipped out before Maggie arrived.
.
.
.
I waited all day for Kai's text.
I checked my phone every minute which pissed off Maggie and pretty much everyone in the mansion. My tasks slowed, Summer threw a temper tantrum about not finding one of her diamond earrings, one of the new maids quit after Summer yelled at her. It was a whole thing.
But everything was over now and I can finally return to my room peacefully.
I almost ran to my room due to the excitement buzzing in my skin. It reminded me of all the nights I had rushed in her to meet Kai after my shift.
I got to my room and my phone pinged at the same time. I brought it out, expecting it to be Kai's text as he promised, but it wasn't even a text message.
It was a bank alert of… hundred thousand dollars?!
Panic rose inside me quickly. Why would someone send me a hundred grand?
My mind instantly whirled through different scenario. What if this is a scam and they had already hacked into my bank account?
I should call my bank right now and tell them of this suspicious activity. I should…
Another notification came in and interrupted my thoughts. It was a message from Kai. Excited, I clicked on the message and began to read.
Kai: Nicole, I've had some time to think about it and I realized I don't want the baby. I don't want to be a father at nineteen when I still have so much I want to do in my life. I have to go abroad for college and take over my family's company. I don't want to be tied down to an ordinary maid.
My head spinned and I tried to find my balance by sitting down.
He doesn't want to be tied down to an ordinary maid?
That had to be a lie. It couldn't be true. Kai had just told me a few hours ago about how he wanted to start a new life with me. How he was going to give up everything.
Another message came in.
Kai: I sent you $100,000 dollars. Use it to get rid of the pregnancy and take care of yourself. I want you out of this house first thing tomorrow morning or things would get really ugly. Don't try to contact me. I'm blocking your number after this message.
My entire world shattered as I re-read the last two messages again and again and again. Until the letters blurred and tears streaked from my eyes.
This couldn't be Kai, I tried to convince myself that it wasn't true, but deep down, I knew it was. He had so much more to lose than I do.
Of course, he was going to save himself first and damn me.
With tears in my eyes, I picked up my bag and started packing. I didn't need any explanation from him directly. The money and the messages were enough.
He wanted me to leave tomorrow morning, I was going to leave tonight. And I was going to make sure he regretted breaking my trust like this.
But as I packed, my resolve began shattering again and I cried. I was pregnant and alone but I had a hundred grand in my account.
What would I even do with a hundred grand?
Chapter 6NicoleI made it to my car before I let myself breathe.In. Out. In. Out. I did it until my heart stopped trying to climb out of my chest but my hands were still shaking on the steering wheel and I hated it. Ten years. I had built a whole life from nothing, I had become one of the best corporate lawyers in the country, and one fucking conference room with Kai Russo in it had me shaking like that nineteen-year-old maid who sat in her tiny bedroom waiting for a text that never came.Someone knocked on my window and I almost screamed. It was Kimberly, holding my files against her chest. I rolled the window down."Ma'am, are you okay?""No." I rubbed my temple. "I'm not.""I've never seen you walk out of a meeting before. Did you mean it? What you said about him finding a new lawyer?"I didn't answer right away. I looked at the building behind her, at all those windows, and I thought of the receptionist asking if she was going to lose her job. I thought of the head of sales who
KaiI was surprised to see Fletcher at my parents' dining table, but I kept my face blank.I knew exactly what this was. My father had invited him to unnerve me. He wanted me to sit across from the man I had bought a company from and squirm, and, I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of seeing it work. The funny part was that my father couldn't stand Fletcher. He just happened to be very good at pretending he did, and Fletcher, bless him, never noticed. He shook the man's hand and smiled at him like they were the oldest of friends."I have missed hanging out with you, my old friend." Fletcher grinned. My father gave him one of his fake smiles. "Me too." So while the two of them talked, I pretended not to hear. I stared at my plate and cut my food into smaller and smaller pieces. My father didn't even glance my way. That was fine. I didn't need him to.Fletcher told my father everything. How he had sold his company, how ready he was for retirement, how it was the best decision
Kai Today was a shitty day. And as I walked out of Equinox at the end of the horrible meeting and stepped into my car, I realized it was going to turn into an even shittier day. “Home, sir?” Paul, the driver, asked. I dipped my phone back into my pocket with a sigh. “My parent's house.” If it was up to me, I would rather drive to my house and get some work done or at least get some rest, but my mum made me promise I was going to come over after my meeting with Fletcher today. I was sure another reason was because my father wanted to learn how my meeting went today but he was too proud to call me himself. My father wasn't in support of me acquiring Equinox despite Fletcher being his friend. He claimed the company was a complete waste of time and on the verge of bankruptcy. Aside from the lack of profit, there were plenty of lawsuits dragging the company down. Lawsuits that were my business now. But I had such a huge faith in it. Besides, I wanted something for myself that didn'
Nicole In the past few years of my career as a lawyer, I have trained myself to always expect surprises. But nothing could have prepared me to expect the person who just walked into the conference room. The person who was supposedly my new client. “Ma'am?” I blinked out of my shock as Kim tapped me. I cleared my throat and shook off the remnants of the surprise, which was the only reaction this absolute piece of shit will be getting from me today. I turned to Mr Fletcher because I still can't bring myself to look at Kai in the eyes without feeling the urge to punch him. The only thing that made me just a little satisfied is that he looked just as rattled as me. “Mr Fletcher, I thought you said the new CEO is Raymond.” “I call him by his middle name because he's like a son to me now.” He chuckled. Oh, right. I had completely forgotten that the motherfucker’s middle name was Raymond. But even if I did, there was no way I would have came to the conclusion that Kai was the Raymon
