~ALEX’S POV~

I stood behind the desk, sleeves rolled up to my forearms, jaw tight, as John finished closing the door behind him.

John never entered without knocking. And he never looked unsettled unless something was wrong. From the look on his expression, I guess something's wrong.

“You have something,” I said flatly.

John nodded once. “Yes, sir.”

I gestured toward the chair opposite me, but I didn't sit. I preferred to stand when receiving reports like this. It kept my mind sharp.

“Well?” I d

~MAX’S POV~Clint swung open the double doors of the executive boardroom without warning. Conversations died mid-sentence. And every head turned.I stepped inside, moving with a measured calmness; the echoes of my cane tapping against the floor filled the room, and my expression was unreadable. The faint limp I still carried from years past did nothing to dull the authority radiating from me. My grandfather walked behind me majestically. For a moment, I think everyone was astounded at the sight of Grandpa. For the record, Grandpa rarely attended board meetings anymore, even as the highest shareholder in the company. I guess because he was retired, though.Ryder froze halfway through his presentation, the remote still in his hands.Yes, Ryder is back in the company, but I wasn't aware of his sudden return, and that's more reason for me to think that something is off about this gathering. Firstly, I wasn't informed about this meeting. Secondly, I didn't know what the meeting was all ab

~MAX’S POV~His eyes widened. “No…” he whispered. “That's not—”The footage showed a dimly lit room. Four men dressed in black suits and dark stood behind a terrified family—Luke’s wife, his two children, and his elderly mother. One of the men pressed a gun to his wife's temple.Luke's face drained of color. He was shocked. Obviously he wasn't expecting to find himself in such a situation over some issue that happened over three years ago. Of which Ryder promised him the case was closed and never to be opened again before he vanished.“They're waiting for my signal,” I said calmly. “If you lie to me, they pull the trigger.”Luke's voice cracked, filled with agitation. “Please! Don't hurt them!”“They are not mine to hurt,” I replied coldly. “They're yours to save.”I asked the men to untie him. The man on the left side quickly pulled a fancy dagger and cut the ropes off Luke's hands and legs. He flexed both hands and legs after being loose.“I didn't have a choice,” Luke cried. “I swe

~MAX’S POV~“Sir, I have a strong feeling that Luke Carson is the key to revealing the truth behind all of this scenario," Clint said while we discussed.“Yeah. I know," I said, rubbing my temples. “Do you have any new updates?”“Yes, sir,” Clint replied. “I figured Luke received a huge amount of money from an offshore account before he went missing. I traced it back to the Dickson Enterprise.”“How much?” I asked.“Six figures," Clint answered I narrowed my brows and stood abruptly and walked towards the study's window. “And this happened during Ryder's tenure,"“Yes, boss,” he said, then hesitated before he continued. “But, sir, that's not all.”I turned slightly toward Clint. “Okay, go on. I'm all ears.” I said.Clint cleared his throat and passed a document on the desk. “I found Luke’s family, but it seemed he wasn't staying with his family after he went into hiding. He has been coming to visit them from time to time.”“So, I hired a private investigator to trace him back to his

~ALEX’S POV~The room did not erupt immediately. For a few suspended seconds after Tonet's accusation, everything stood unnaturally still—like the world itself was holding its breath.Mom didn't flinch.I watched her closely, and I noticed she did not gasp or deny it instinctively the way Riley had moments earlier. Instead, she slowly exhaled, her shoulders lowering as though she had finally set down a burden she had carried for years. In that instant, something inside me fractured—not loudly, not violently—but irrevocably.“Mom,” I said, my voice calm in a way that frightened everyone present, “What is she talking about?”Mom lifted her gaze toward me. Her eyes were glossy, but resolute.“It's time you heard the truth,” she said softly. My Dad stiffened. “Renee?”She raised a hand gently, silencing him. “Please. Let me finish.”Riley clutched the baby tighter to her chest, her entire body trembling. Tonet's lips curled into something dangerously close to vindication.Mom took a slow

~ALEX’S POV~After the meeting with Arthur Campbell, I returned home a different man. I no longer saw Riley the way I once had. Every laugh, every gentle touch, every soft confession now replayed in my mind with a question mark hanging over it.Has any of it been real? Arthur's words echoed relentlessly. ‘I wasn't their first mistake. You might be their biggest.’‘Riley and her mother survive by attaching themselves to powerful men. Extracting resources. Then moving on.”‘Your wife is way smarter than you think.’At first, I tried to dismiss it as bitterness. A scorned ex seeking revenge. I didn't grow up a careless man. So I verified everything quietly and discreetly.I hired private investigators who helped me uncover the truth behind this whole situation. And I'm glad I did anyway. The results came back one by one.Large transfers from Arthur's company into shell accounts linked to Tonet. Luxury purchases under Riley's name that did not align with her declared income at the time.

  • I LEFT MY EX HUSBAND AND MARRIED A BILLIONAIRE    Chapter 92

~ALEX’S POV~The meeting was set for midnight.John had chosen an abandoned waterfront warehouse on the edge of the city—private, quiet and far from prying eyes. The kind of place where conversations happened without witnesses.I arrived first. My car headlights cut through the darkness before switching off. The only sounds were distant waves slapping against concrete and the faint hum of wind weaving through broken beams overhead.I stepped out of the car slowly. Calm and composed.A second pair of headlights approached minutes later. The white Maybach.Even in low lights, it gleamed. Arthur Campbell stepped out, adjusting his coat as if he were arriving at a business negotiation rather than a confrontation.“Mr. Fox,” Arthur greeted smoothly, stopping a few feet away. “I must admit, I was surprised to receive your invitation.”I didn't offer a handshake and didn't smile. Obviously, there was no need for any pleasantries.“I'm sure you were,” I replied coolly.John remained near my c
