Chapter 4

The moment Selena entered the villa, she saw Melinda wearing her pajamas and house slippers. She could hear the sound of running water echoing from the bathroom, too.

Many of the things from the master bedroom had already been moved out and were piled up haphazardly in the living room, looking like nothing more than heaps of trash.

Geoffrey happened to walk out of the bathroom with only a towel wrapped around his waist.

When he saw Selena, he said casually, “Mel is used to staying in the master bedroom. Since you want a divorce, just give the room back to her.”

“Sorry about this, Selena. I just can’t sleep well in unfamiliar beds,” Melinda said as she sat directly on the bed. She was twirling her slightly damp strands of hair near her chest.

“When you and Geoff got married three years ago, I was studying abroad and couldn’t make it back for the wedding. I never imagined you’d end up in this same room as newlyweds.”

Her movements and her words were clearly meant to disgust Selena. It was a blatant humiliation.

Selena had long anticipated this, and her private investigator had already sent her photos of the two of them being intimate. However, walking in and seeing it with her own eyes hit her far harder than any photo ever could.

Her hands were clenched so hard her knuckles turned white. But on the outside, her face was completely unreadable.

She simply looked back at Melinda and retorted, “You couldn’t make it, or you weren’t invited?”

Melinda gasped sharply and immediately called out to Geoffrey. “Geoff!”

“Selena, when did you get so bitter and spiteful?” he asked, glaring at her in disbelief.

He felt this strange emptiness inside.

Why was she not being angry and jealous?

All he saw on her face was contempt and mockery.

“You want to talk about being bitter and spiteful? Nobody beats you two. We just signed the divorce papers, and you couldn’t wait to move your mistress in.

“I guess the Flaig family’s reputation means about as much to you as my belongings do. Trash,” she sneered as she took her important documents out of the pile and walked out without looking back.

He rushed forward and grabbed her hand. “Where do you think you’re going?”

“Isn’t that what you want? For me to clear out and make room for you and your mistress?” She almost laughed at the absurdity.

“Who said you could leave? You humiliated Mel in front of everyone today. You need to apologize to her.” He held her tightly, refusing to let her leave.

She took a deep breath, trying to stay composed.

Her parents died in a car crash because her father had a mistress. The other woman could not stand the thought of them getting back together, so she had tampered with the brakes.

Their car went over the cliff. Neither of them survived.

That was why she hated infidelity most of all.

Back then, Geoffrey swore over her parents’ graves that she would be the only one for him. However, the moment Melinda came back, he couldn’t wait to jump into bed with her.

On top of the divorce, he wanted her to apologize to his mistress. That would be worse than death for her.

“Not a chance!”

“Watch me. If you don’t apologize today, I’ll have your family strip you of your position as the chairman of Brodie Corporation tonight!”

At that moment, Selena wanted nothing more than to beat him to death. Her knuckles were cracking from how hard she clenched her fists.

But she knew she was no match for him physically.

Without saying a word, she glared at Geoffrey. Her eyes were already welled up with tears.

Only then did he show a satisfied smile. “Or you can withdraw the divorce, accept that Mel is here to stay, and the three of us live together from now on.”

“Get lost!” Utterly disgusted, she headbutted him hard in the chin.

He yelped in pain and let her go.

“Geoffrey, I’d rather die than play house with you and your mistress!” Her gaze darkened with deep hatred.

Her words struck a nerve. His expression turned grim.

“Selena, Mel was right. You’re way too feisty for your own good. It’s about time someone put you in your place.

“Nobody in all of Northcrest tells me what to do. You have to play by my rules if you want me to protect you.”

“You prick,” she said furiously before grabbing her bag and leaving without looking back.

“Geoff, are you okay?” Melinda quickly came over to check on his injuries.

She looked at him with concern as her small hands gently examined his wound.

This was what his ideal wife should look like.

Thinking of how sharp-tongued and difficult Selena always was, he became even more furious.

He pulled out his phone and made a call to his assistant, Ronald Walter.

“Fire Selena as the chairman of Brodie Corporation. Without my permission, she is not allowed to set foot in the Brodie Corporation building.”

After he hung up, he sent Selena a message.

[I already sold the Brodie family mansion to your uncle. Brodie Corporation is mine now. You want them back? Beg me.]

Selena took a glance at the message and blocked his number.

She did not want to listen to his nonsense anymore. She went straight to the villa next door and knocked on the door.

“I’ll take you up on that offer. Let’s switch marriage partners.”
